Salman Khan inspires item number
0Garima Sharma (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 10, 2012)
For debutant actor Abhishek Anand, his first ‘item’ song was one that he enjoyed shooting for completely. Anand, who makes his debut with the film Chakradhaar, says that shooting for the item number Banarsi Chhokra was a very unique experience, especially because he tried to copy a strut practiced by Salman Khan in Munni Badnam Hui.
Says Anand, “It’s a song based in Banaras, but my character’s entry is like Salman’s entry in Munni Badnaam Hui. There’s not much dance that I’m doing in the song since I make an entry towards the last part of the song, but whatever little dancing I had to do, it was a great experience. Maryam Zakaria, who is part of the song, was also very good.” The actor, who hails from Delhi, did theatre for a while before moving to Mumbai three years ago. His theatre experience, says the debut actor, is what makes him this confident, and he adds that that’s why he was also so comfortable shooting the song.
Chakradhaar is based on the fight against corruption. It revolves around the character of a simple boy Shravan from Banaras and his transition into Pandit, a powerful goon. Says Anand, “The character has three shades and the transformation is what made it challenging. I worked very hard to establish the character over the past four months and it was very a very gratifying experience.”
The movie also stars Urvashi Sharma, Vidya Malvade, Akhilendra Mishra, Govind Namdev, Darshan Jariwala, Yashpal Sharma, More >
Abhishek Anand: The new Abhishek in town
0BOMBAY TIMES (May 26, 2012)
Abhishek Anand, who debuts with Chakradhaar, hails from Delhi and is a law student. With no connections in B-Town, he took a great risk in coming to Mumbai. And thus began his tryst with producers, directors and scriptwriters as he desperately hunted for a story that woud not only sync with his personality and but also display his acting skills.
“When I heard Arsh’s Chakradhaar, I knew this was just the right subject for me,” he said. Anand adds, “Chakradhaar is an honest man’s fight against corruption. I play this university topper who gets to know about the underhand dealings at his college and in the field of education. There’s this politician who tries to knock me out of the picture. How my character goes through a complete transition and settles scores with the politician and his brothers forms the crux of the film.”
Abhishek says that the plot of the film is based on a true-life incident that transpired in Benares. “It happened a few years ago but was not highlighted by the media. It is one the reasons why we shot the film in the city. We completed the shooting in 58 days flat,” he reveals, beaming with pride.
Besides Abhishek, the film also stars Urvashi Sharma and Vidya Malvade. Directed by Shakur Sir and produced by Bharat Anand, Chakradhaar is presented by Sir JVM Movies Pvt Ltd and releases June 15.
