It was amazing to visit sets of my son’s film-Rati Agnihotri

Rati Agnihotri surprised the cast and crew of Luv U Soniyo when she dropped in on the sets of the film yesterday afternoon.

Incidentally the film marks the debut of Rati’s son Tanuj Virwani. The film directed by debutante director Joe Rajan also marks the debut of the current Miss India Neha Hinge.

When contacted Rati Agnihotri said, “Yes, it was an amazing feeling to go on the sets of my son’s film. I had gone there purely as a mother and not as an actor. It was a different but wonderful feeling.

I went just closer to lunch time as I didn’t want to disturb anyone. I met the entire crew and they were all engrossed in their work. I felt nostalgic as I remembered when I was shooting for Ek Duje Ke Liye which was my first film and my parents had come on the sets.

There were no monitors when I made my debut but in here I got to see a couple of shots which Joe showed me. I am very happy as I could see Tanuj being himself and it was real.

The pairing is also very nice and honest and I am happy that Joe is doing a good job. I saw them working as an onlooker and I have come back home satisfied. I didn’t stay there long as I didn’t want to disturb anyone.

It was nice as Tanuj’s childhood friends had also come and we all saw his work on the monitor.”

Rati finally said, “In my film I played a Punjabi girl and Kamal Hassan played a South Indian. It was a clash of two different states and cultures.

Lara and Mahesh’s wedding in Goa is expected to be a very ‘English’ affair

Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; January 13, 2010)

Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi, who are tying the knot on February 19 in Goa, have sent out their invitation cards. The décor at the wedding is expected to be very Victorian, and that’s no surprise, says a source, as Lara is a Catholic. Adds the source, “Lara and Mahesh have very simple sensibilities, and that is exactly what their wedding will be about. They have kept everything very sober.”

We have also learnt that both Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have been invited to the wedding, along with Lara’s other Bollywood colleagues, including Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu and Kareena Kapoor. But it’s the presence of the two Khans together that’s increasing the anticipation. Says our source, “Those who know the guest list are wondering whether the two Khans will come face-to-face, or if one of them will skip the wedding.”

There are two cards in the invitation — one for the sangeet on February 18 and the other for the wedding on the 19. The cards have a very English design with rose patterns and have been designed by the same company that had designed Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding card. We’ve learnt that each card has been personalised with the guest’s name. But unlike Imran Khan and Avantika Malik’s wedding, where swipe cards were sent to guests due to security concerns, Lara and Mahesh have arranged More >

PICTURE PERFECT: Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor reveals her size zero secrets…

MEENA IYER (BOMBAY TIMES; February 24, 2010)

If there is one aspect of Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor’s life that rates higher on the gossip charts than her relationship with the Junior Nawab of Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan, it is her size-zero measurement. Kareena got into shape under the guidance of dietician Rujuta Diwekar when she had to wear that bikini for Tashan (a film where she also bonded big time with Saif). In Kambakkht Ishq, Bebo once again tantalised the audience when she walked around in a black swimming costume. And each time she shows off her body-shape, she manages to add a few hundred fans to the already existing long list of people who think Bebo has the hottest figure in the business. But surprise, surprise, Bebo hasn’t starved to get this enviable figure. Says she, “People often wonder whether I eat an orange for lunch. But that isn’t the case. I eat pasta, pizzas, french fries and even chocolates on occasions. However, I have been taught by my dietician how to eat right. I control the quantities, do upto 40 surya namaskars and stay this way.” Kareena who leans towards spirituality rather than religion is vegetarian for the last five years of her life. However, she is not an advocate for vegetarianism. “To each his own,” says the reigning Bollywood queen, “Saif can eat a goat for lunch and dinner, and I sit right next to him at the table. I More >

Movie Review: AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI by FENIL SETA

I am out of the theatre and still thinking, “Is this the same Rajkumar Santoshi who gave some hard-hitting and intense films for a long time?”. Yup, he directed Andaz Apna Apna but that was like some 15-16 years ago. Post-AAA, he came up with close to dozen intense and almost realistic films. A certain image of Santoshi was carved out thanks to his kind of films. But with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, he breaks that image and proves that he STILL can come up with solid youthful entertainers! Sweet, witty, little absurd… Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani succeeds completely in making you laugh!

The story of the movie: Prem (Ranbir Kapoor) lives in a town called Mount Valley and runs ‘Happy Club’ in the coffin shop of one of his friends’ father! He is carefree, happy and wants to make others happy. A case of mistaken identity leads him to meeting Jenny (Katrina Kaif). He soon falls in love with her but doesn’t profess even though both he and Jenny become thick pals. The reason-both are as different as chalk and cheese. To begin with, Prem is the son of a staunch Hindu while Jenny is Catholic. Jenny wants her dream man to be literate and who works hard for his family. But Prem is 9th standard pass and doesn’t work at all. And lastly, Prem is a vegetarian and Jenny is not (or is she?)! And does Jenny feel the same for Prem? Or does she love someone else?

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is a different entertainer, esp in terms of storytelling and execution. Every More >

They will be seen romancing each other in Sanjay Sharma’s film Dunno Y… Naa Jaane Kyun.

A source says, “Zeenat plays a catholic while Kabir plays her husband, who abandons her and their son, only to return in her life after 20 years. That’s when their romance blossoms. It’s a mature love story.”

Commenting on the Zeenat-Kabir reunion, a source said, “On the first day of the shoot at Ajmera House in Yari Road, when Zeenat met Kabir, she exclaimed, ‘Is this Kabir?’ And Kabir joked, ‘In the film we are meeting after 20 years but in real life we are meeting after 40 years.’ Zeenat joked and told Kabir, ‘Don’t be so loud, the youngsters around might just calculate our age.’”

Director Sanjay Sharma confirmed the news and said, “We didn’t want to cast a regular couple. We were sure that only Zeenatji could effortlessly play Rebecca and we wanted someone handsome and stylish opposite her. I remember the commercial they had done years ago and thought it would be great to bring them together in my film”

Kabir said, “I was initially a bit apprehensive about starring in the film. We hardly have More >

TIMES NEWS NETWORK (BOMBAY TIMES; August 22, 2009)

This is a bit of a coincidence, really. Salman Khan shooting a song called Jalwa for his new film — Sahara Motion Pictures and S K Films Entertainment’s Wanted, that is picturised on Lord Ganesh, the presiding deity of Mumbai. The film is slated for release on September 18, the promos are on the air, and look… it’s Ganeshotsav tomorrow! Salman is a believer in Lord Ganesh, though his faith is Islam, and he also celebrates Christmas at home. That is because the ‘Khan’daan at Galaxy Apartments in Bandra west, is happily among the most cosmopolitan families in Mumbai. Father Salim Khan’s first wife Salma is a Maharashtrian Brahmin and the second, is former Bollywood swinger Helen, a Catholic. They celebrate Eid, Ganpati, Diwali and Christmas. This year, again, Ganeshotsav and the holy month of Ramazan come together. The Khans are not always rozedars, they do not keep the rozas, but the parties, the drinking and the fun, is cut down during the holy period. Iftaars are held in the evening, the Khans prepare thals of food and delicacies that are sent to orphanages, old age homes, friends and relatives. And yes, they devoutly perform the Ganpati aarti because mother Salma brings home an idol of Lord More >
