Shreyas to play Akshay’s brother in Joker
0By Joginder Tuteja, January 10, 2011 – 11:07 IST
Shreyas Talpade has been signed by Shirish Kunder for his in-production film Joker. The young actor would be playing Akshay Kumar’s brother in the film which is all set to go on floors this year.
Confirms Shirish for whom Shreyas turned out to be natural choice for the role, “I had seen Shreyas quite closely when he was working in Farah’s Om Shanti Om. It was remarkable that he played both the young as well as old part out there with aplomb. As Shah Rukh Khan’s friend, he was a livewire in the first half of the film while in the second half he showed the required maturity as expected from an old man. That’s the hallmark of a good actor. I was very impressed and when it came to someone being cast for the part of Akshay’s brother, I had no hesitation signing Shreyas for the part.”
For Shreyas too the film is a major leap as other than the Golmaal 3 and Golmaal Returns prior to that, he has been trapped in small or medium budgeted films. A film like Joker further brings him into the big league, a process that started with Om Shanti Om.
“Though Akshay Kumar is the central protagonist in the film, Shreyas has a very important part to play in the narrative as well”, assures Shreyas, “If it wasn’t, I could have roped in a lesser actor. However, when it comes to Shreyas, one does associate with him a role which is performance oriented.”
Though not much is known about the plotline of Joker (which features Sonakshi Sinha More >
Shahid-Priyanka celebrate New Year’s Eve in Goa?
0Taking time off from shooting his father’s film Mausam, Shahid Kapoor took off to Goa for a day just to spend New Year’s Eve with Priyanka Chopra and her family
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 03, 2011)
Though the engagement rumours may still need validation, congratulations are in order for one of the most handsome couples in the entertainment industry.
Yes, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are most definitely in love. Not only did Chops visit him in Chandigarh twice in December during his long schedule for Pankaj Kapoor’s Mausam, Shahid actually took a day off from the same shooting schedule to be with her in Goa, where she was holidaying with her parents, brother and best friend Tamanna.
A source from the Mausam crew says, “Priyanka has come here to Chandigarh twice. On December 30 Shahid flew to Goa to bring in the New Year with Priyanka and her family. On December 30 he actually missed his flight to Goa via Mumbai, so he caught another one from Chandigarh via Delhi to Goa.” Talk about going great lengths to be with your love!
Apparently Shahid spent New Year’s Eve with Priyanka and flew back to Chandigarh on January 1. The Mausam shooting had come to a standstill for these two days.
But the source is quick to stand up for Shahid in saying that he wasn’t the one responsible for a causing a delay in the shooting schedule, “We had decided to take a break for New Year’s anyway. We were all there. Shahid’s absence was glaring More >
Anurag and Abhinav Kashyap speak (must-read)
0Brothers Abhinav and Anurag Kashyap nurture independent visions of cinema and different value systems, but their playful banter is rooted in a common goal — making films they believe in
Namrata Bhawnani (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 22, 2010)
Anurag Kashyap’s lair in Andheri is a smoking office. As he rolls up a cigarette, Abhinav, 35, walks in, apologising for being late. His brother remarks, “Yeh toh star ban gaya hai.” As they take playful jibes at each other in the haze of twin smokes, older brother Anurag, 38, pokes the bear further, “He’s my budhaape ki laathi.”
Both brothers are brash, opinionated and there’s a testosterone-fuelled camaraderie that keeps the momentum going.
Professionally, it’s a different story.
Abhinav is keyed up for the release of Dabangg, a more commercially viable project than all of Anurag’s films put together. As Anurag jokes, “His fees alone will be the entire budget of one of my films.” Dabangg is a Salman -powered vehicle, as opposed to the niche urban audience that Anurag’s films appeal to. Abhinav has assisted Mani Ratnam and written for Sanjay Gupta, while Anurag trained with Ram Gopal Varma.
Raju Shinde“For me, the biggest hurdle was being his brother,” Abhinav admits. “Everyone expected a Black Friday or Gulaal from me.” There’s also the prickly rumour that there was no love lost between them for the longest time, which they laugh off saying that they haven’t fought since seven-year-old Anurag ran More >
Saif’s illuminating arrangement
0The actor-producer admits that he and partner Dinesh Vijan have decided to branch out with individual ventures but will continue to jointly make films under Illuminati Films
Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 04, 2010)
After reports that Dinesh Vijan, his partner in Illuminati Films, is branching out to do ventures on his own, Saif Ali Khan has been quick to deny any rift between them. Far from a divorce, this seems to be an open marriage.
Mumbai Mirror had reported yesterday that Dinesh Vijan is making a film outside the Illuminati banner which will be directed by Homi Adjania.
Saif, who earlier remained unavailable for comment, told us how things actually stand between him and Dinesh. “I am extremely proud of Illuminati Films. Dinesh is not just my partner in production, he is like a brother to me. We are equal partners in Illuminati Films but at the same time I would also be working with outside producers. I also have my own production company in which I am the sole stakeholder.
I haven’t named the company yet, but tentatively it will be called Saif Ali Khan Productions. So I will make some films under this banner, some under Illuminati. Also, there will be films which Dinesh will make under his own individual production – which is only fair. Rumours about him doing a film without him and me doing a film without him are a fact. There is nothing wrong in it. In fact, we are quite excited about that.”

Two films being thought of with Kareena and Ranbir
0Subhash K Jha | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; July 14, 2010)
The race is on in Bollywood between filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala and director Rohit Jugraj to see who can get Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor in a film together first. The fact that the two cousins, Bollywood’s hottest properties, cannot romance each other on screen has gone down very well indeed with Imran Khan — the new sensation after the success of I Hate Luv Storys. Exploiting the situation, Imran began an ‘I Love Bebo’ campaign that has worked, and the young actor has already signed on to do a film for Karan Johar opposite Kareena. But there is hope for the cousins, yet. Sajid Nadiadwala, whose Anjaana Anjaani Kareena had to opt out of because it starred Ranbir, is planning a film with the two. “We don’t have to think of a romantic pair all the time. There are so many wonderful films where the lead pair is not romantically involved, like Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in Sadma and Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in Amar Prem,” said Sajid.
And there’s Rohit Jugraj who is currently writing a script called Cousins which he has designed specially for Kareena and Ranbir. At the moment, all he will reveal is that it’s the story of first cousins who get together to fight for a common cause. Kareena had once said, “I would like to work with Ranbir. He is so talented. I know we can work magic together. But he is my brother. How can I star opposite him? Maybe it was never meant to be.” But, More >
Payal, Sherlyn clean bowls Symonds, Gibbs?
0Payal Rohatgi bowled out Andrew Symonds and Herschelle Gibbs at the IPL Awards after party – with peanuts
By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 26, 2010)

Payal Rohatgi and Sheryln Chopra had an interesting encounter with international cricketers during the IPL Awards after party on Friday.
An eyewitness said, “Payal and Sheryln were bonding all evening and let their hair down during the IPL party. The actual party started way past midnight and both the girls were hanging out together when they spotted Herschelle Gibbs and Andrew Symonds (players of Deccan Chargers). To tease Gibbs, Payal started tossing peanuts at him.
The coy Gibbs seemed to be enjoying the attention. A little later, Payal playfully emptied the remaining peanuts in the bowl on Gibbs. Though she was teasing Gibbs, Payal’s attention was actually on Symonds. With the cricketers playing along, Sheryln joined Payal in teasing them.”
When asked about the encounter, Payal said, “Yes, I was there at the function to present an award. My brother had accompanied me. At the party after the awards, we were all seated at the same table (with Gibbs and Symonds). I met Sheryln there. We were the only girls on the table so we got all the attention. I was not flirting with Symonds, I was just having fun. My brother was sitting right beside me. And I just had one glass of wine. I met these players for the first time and was lucky to interact with them.”
Hrithik’s sis gets secretly married, family incensed
0Life inflicted one blow after another on Hrithik Roshan’s older sister Sunaina, but she braved her way through a failed marriage, single parenthood, a broken engagement and cancer. Though things are looking up for her again, life is still not hunky-dory. Her recent secret marriage resulted in her losing out on the support of her parents and brother with whom she had been staying for nearly ten years after her first marriage ended.
Since the past few weeks, there were rumours in the industry that Rakesh Roshan’s daughter had secretly remarried. When we called her last week, Sunaina dismissed it as a preposterous rumour. However, Sunaina called us up yesterday to spill the beans that she has indeed tied the knot with Mohan Nagar, who is in the construction business.
Sunaina is no longer staying with her father at the Roshans’ Juhu residence, Palazzio. “We decided to get married three months ago (December 2009). Mohan and I stay at Lokhandwala, Andheri now,” says Sunaina.
Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan Sunaina Roshan and Mohan NagarSunaina and Mohan had been dating for six months before they legalised their relationship. “We got married on January 20 in a temple and then registered our marriage in court,” Mohan Nagar told Mumbai Mirror.
