Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore is known to be picky with signing films but a lesser-known fact is that she makes exceptions for people she is fond of. And it turns out, Deepika Padukone is one of them.
Sharmila will be seen in the Imran Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer, Break Ke Baad, in which she plays a single mother to Deepika. Deepika and Sharmila share a very special mother-daughter relationship in the film.
And acting must come naturally to both since both Deepika and Sharmila are very fond of each other. The two first met on the sets of Love Aaj Kal, which Saif Ali Khan produced.
Deepika bonded with Sharmila and apparently when the mother’s role was being finalised for Break Ke Baad, Deepika suggested Sharmila’s name.
When contacted, Deepika said, “I was very excited to know that Sharmilaji will be playing my mother in the film. I respect her immensely, and feel she is one of the finest actors of India.
I am humbled that I got a chance to share screen space with such a great actor.”
A man called Atif Malik is running a fraudulent ad on the Internet inviting people for a “Break Ke Baad dinner party”. Wonder what he has on mind…
Fraudsters in the media keep redefining themselves with time.
Here’s a shocking example. A few days before Danish Aslam’s Break Ke Baad is set to hit the theatres, a person who calls himself Atif Malik, is running an ad on You Tube (check the link www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY7Ty8E82cs), which says that “A Meet and Greet Dinner party of Break Kay Baad is going to be held on November 12 at Chak 89 Hall, 105 Bond Road, Cr 4 Hg.”
|Imran Khan, Deepika Padukone|
The ad strikes you as a fraudulent one when you realise that the name of the film has not been spelt correctly. The ad spells it as ‘Break Kay Baad’. But it is definitely the Imran-Deepika starrer Break Ke Baad that Atif is referring to; you can clearly see some scenes from the film being run in the background.
When Mumbai Mirror checked with some sources from the actual Break Ke Baad team, the truth surfaced.
A source close to the film says, “How can anybody advertise like this? This is so unethical. Who is the so-called meet and greet party of Break Ke Baad being sold to? No member of the cast and crew is going to attend any event at 89 Hall on November 12.”
The ad mentions that singer Sonu Nigam will make a special appearance at the party. So, we checked with Sonu’s business manager, Ben Thomas about the authenticity of this ad. Ben said, “No. Sonu is not scheduled to make any such appearance on November 12.”

The official spokesperson of Break Ke Baad said, “We are going to UK around the same time, but we are not aware of this.”
Sorry Atif, no meetings or greetings for you!
On the sets of Break Ke Baad, director Danish Aslam ensured no one went clubbing or used a cell phone
Break Ke Baad has a very young team. Right from the director to the actors as well as the crewmembers are all young.
Naturally, the mood on the sets was always relaxed and happy. In fact, on packing up, they organised a lot of parties as well.
But here’s the flip side. The director of the film Danish Aslam had made it a rule that no one would be allowed to go clubbing if an early-morning shoot was to follow.

That’s not all. No one on the sets was allowed to use a cellphone. If someone’s phone rang he/she would pay a fine, ranging from 500 to 5000 depending on the person’s responsibility.
And the money collected would then be spent on weekend partying. Nice, Danish. No wonder Break ke Baad was completed well on schedule.

This is turning out to be an unimaginably busy year ahead for Deepika Padukone. She started off 2010 with Karthik Calling Karthik. Later she was seen in Housefull and it wasn’t too while ago when she enacted the role of a blind girl in Lafangey Parindey. Well, picture abhi baaki hai, literally so, as before the year ends, she would also be seen in Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.
While this wasn’t strenuous enough, there is more. Both her new releases would be literally arriving back to back. While Ashutosh Gowariker had announced 3rd December as the release date for his Abhishek Bachchan starrer Khelein Hum…. many months ago, Kunal Kohli’s Break Ke Baad (with Imran Khan in lead) too joined the race by declaring 26th November as the D-day.
“This means double the stress for Deepika”, comments an industry veteran, “It is an entirely different ballgame today when it comes to the release of a film. One just can’t rest after the dubbing of the film. There are ‘hazaar’ promotional events involved, not just pre as well as post the release of a film. Moreover, there are other commitments of a celebrity as well which are not just related to the films.”
All of this means that Deepika would be promoting both her new releases in a parallel manner. When at least a month long commitment is a given for the promotion of any major film, it would be interesting to see how Deepika manages it all for two movies in a 4-6 weeks long time period.
“I guess she may just have to go with the flow here”, continues the veteran, “Though it sounds tough for any artist to stop talking about a film of hers which has just released, her commitment for Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey means that she would be required to detach herself from Break Ke Baad pretty quickly. She will have to move from one Friday to another. In any case, both are very important films of her as she plays a lead protagonist here rather than just being a part of an ensemble affair.”
Now it has to be seen whether one of the two filmmakers would actually decide to budge from the slot that they had chosen for themselves, hence resulting in a comfortable spacing out of Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.
“I won’t be able to do that”, says Ashutosh Gowariker who, just like Kunal Kohli, has already released the promo of his film, “3rd December is D day for Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. The entire calendar has already been planned and we are marching ahead with our plans. In any case, we had announced our release date many months ago. If someone else decides to come in on or around this date, it’s their call.”
Over to you Kunal.
The couple has been signed for Homi Adjania’s next
Saif Ali Khan’s partner Dinesh Vijan has ventured out and is all set to make his first film which will be directed by Homi Adjania.
Incidentally they have signed Imran and Deepika for the film. This will be Homi’s second film after he made Being Cyrus; this will be Imran-Deepika’s second film as a couple after Break Ke Baad.
Our source said, “Both Homi and Dinesh Vijan were keen to cast the pair in their film.
Deepika had already worked with Dinesh in Love Aaj Kal and once the promos of Break Ke Baad came on air, they locked the pair as they were convinced that the chemistry the couple shares works perfectly for their script which is a love story.
Deepika signed the film on Tuesday evening.

Although Imran has worked with both Sonam and Genelia in his past films, this is the first time that filmmakers are talking about him having ‘chemistry’ with an actress.”
When contacted, Imran Khan confirmed the news and said, “Yes, it is true. We both had a lovely time doing Break Ke Baad and I am very happy that we are doing Homi’s next.” So is Deepika, we’re sure.
…and the younger he is, the better
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; October 18, 2010)
A hero is only as old as the heroine he romances on screen, is a popular Bollywood saying. That’s the reason why you have 61-year old Rajnikant romancing a 36-year-old Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Robot. Or a 45-year-old Salman Khan romancing a 22-year-old Sonakshi in Dabangg.
Now there is a reversal of roles. “Whether it is Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone or Priyanka Chopra, they all want to romance Imran Khan, Shahid Kapoor or Ranbir Kapoor, the generation after the Khans, because it helps cut their screen ages,” says a leading filmmaker.
So in Shakun Batra’s Short-Term Shaadi, Bebo will woo Imran; in Abbas Ali’s Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Kat will serenade him; and, in Danish Aslam’s Break Ke Bad, Deepika is steaming it up with the light-eyed actor. Priyanka is also scheduled to do a photo shoot with Imran to see how they make screen magic. But Deepika is one up on all of them. The actress, who is just 24, is making a conscious effort to alternately romance a 42-year-old Akshay Kumar and a 26-year-old Imran, because she doesn’t want to be classified as being older than she is.
Hollywood screen icon Demi Moore, who is married to the much younger Ashton Kutcher, told a lifestyle magazine that she is indeed a Puma (an older woman who romances a younger man). And our very own Bollywood leading ladies have no compunctions of being Cougars or Pumas either. Bebo says, “I’m equally at ease romancing SRK, Aamir, Saif, Salman or Imran as the case may be. I’m not necessarily looking to romance someone younger than me on screen. But if there is a great film offer, I’m going to grab it. Honestly, the hero’s age is the last thing I think of when I accept a film. It has to be a good script and a great role.”
However, another of Bebo’s contemporaries says just the opposite. She is clear that she wants to romance Imran/Ranbir because it definitely changes the audience’s perception of her. And it also brings an element of freshness to the film.
Sajid Nadiadwala was allegedly hesitant to screen the trailer of Break Ke Baad, starring Imran Khan, with his feature Anjaana Anjaani. But the producers have gone ahead and tagged themselves to the film anyway
Newsflash: the trailer of Break Ke Baad, starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone, will be shown during the screening of Anjaana Anjaani, whether producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Ranbir Kapoor like it or not.
Reliance Big Pictures apparently called up Nadiadwala to say that they wanted him to attach the trailer of their film Break Ke Baad to Anjaana Anjaani. But Sajid turned them down, insinuating that the hero of Anjaana Anjaani (Ranbir) wouldn’t be happy about this.
Sajid suggested that if he complied with their marketing strategy, it would upset Ranbir. Sajid then added that the dynamics were too complicated to be explained.
Another reason why Sajid apparently chose to say ‘no’ was because both Anjaana Anjaani and Break Ke Baad are youthful films with similar target audiences. Seemingly, he did not want the spotlight to shift from his film.
Apart from this, grapevine had it that Ranbir and Imran, who were once good friends, are not on good terms. They have not admitted to this but their friendship went sour when Imran’s fiancée Avantika made some uncharitable remarks about Raajneeti, which stars Ranbir.
Meanwhile, not left with an alternative, Reliance Big Pictures called up all the theatres and asked them to show the trailer of Break Ke Baad with Anjaana Anjaani and the other releases, Robot, Khichdi and Benny Aur Bablu.
Says a source, “Reliance Big Pictures doesn’t have to pay the theatres. Studios and theatres work on a goodwill basis. Nadiadwala was very polite, but his conversation with Big Pictures clearly implied that he didn’t want to have the trailer of Break Ke Baad playing alongside his film Anjaana Anjaani.”
When contacted however, Nadiadwala told Mumbai Mirror, “I am not attaching the trailer of Break Ke Baad in Anjaana Anjaani? This is news to me. My signature would be required to attach it. But you see, I have not been approached by Reliance for the same.
Even if they call me now to do it, I happily will. I have no problem with Imran. He is a very sweet boy. And if they are going ahead and showing the trailer, I still don’t have any issues.”
On the other hand, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer of Reliance Big Pictures, Priti Shahni, told us, “It was always our plan to be in the theatres this weekend.
This is a good weekend with three films releasing, which includes Anjaana Anjaani.
Our trailer of Break Ke Baad has been programmed across the country in all theatres with all the three films.”
That’s enough said, we think.

Gone are the days when every second film-maker would cast a successful pair in a love story, to capitalize on their popularity. The actors never complained either, for they felt that the success of their previous film together would rub off on the new one as well. But times have changed, actors are keen to work with co-stars they haven’t worked with earlier.
Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone have been teamed for the first time in BREAK KE BAAD, produced by Reliance Big Pictures and Kunal Kohli and directed by debutant Danish Aslam. The first thing you notice in a love story [yes, BREAK KE BAAD is a prem kahani] is, how good does the pair look together and I must say, Imran and Deepika look incredible together and the chemistry comes across very well.
The second thing you notice in a love story is the romance quotient, which, of course, one can’t judge by watching merely the promo of the film, but if the promo is a gist of the content, yes, the film seems like a pucca love story that’s aimed at the youth. Imran looks great and Deepika, gorgeous. Here’s a film and jodi to look forward to.
The first promo of BREAK KE BAAD will be launched in cineplexes on 1st October. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi and music composers Vishal-Shekhar come together for this album, which will be released by T-Series in mid-October.
