The two blue-eyed beauties will be seen together in an ad
The news is indeed of titanic proportions. Sometime soon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen rubbing shoulders with actress Kate Winslet. Aishwarya will be working with the British actress on a commercial, to be shot in Italy. This is for a brand Ash endorses.
In the past, Aishwarya has worked with Hollywood actors such as Jean Reno, Steve Martin and Emily Mortimer. But clearly, this one is a special feather in her cap.
A source close to Ash reveals, “Aishwarya is very excited to meet Kate and moreover shoot with her for the ad. Ash is headed to Italy sometime next week. The ad will be shot over two days.”
Aishwarya has met Kate in the past but very briefly and finds her very pretty. She has also watched a lot of Kate’s films. Shooting with her is thus something Ash is eagerly waiting for.

Barbara Mori, who is currently in India for the promotion of her upcoming film Kites with Hrithik Roshan, is certainly keeping herself occupied in her free time.
Besides taking in the sights and sounds, she’s spending a lot of her free time shopping with her brother Kintaro. However, the Mexican actress has little interest in the usual knick knacks tourists like to hoard – the hottest thing on her shopping list are agarbattis (incense sticks).
Says a source, “Barbara Mori just freaks out on the scent of agarbattis…she always has some burning in her room. For the moment she’s staying at a service apartment in Juhu and her room is always fragrant with some exotic smells. She is almost obsessed with agarbattis. She arrived in Mumbai on April 24 (Saturday) and that very day she took off for the market with her brother to shop for them. She has been shopping for different brands and types of agarbattis since then.
She’d gotten hooked on to them the last time she’d come to India and had her brother Kintaro couriering her agarbattis whenever he visited India. This time she has bought so many packets that she hopefully won’t need to replenish her stock for a long time.”
Despite attempts to reach her, Barbara remained unavailable for comment.
We met Kareena for a chat at Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence where she was beaming because of her newborn nephew and her week-long break to spend time with family. Kareena was surfing the net when we entered the tastefully done apartment. Saif left for some shopping when the interview began and came back later for a casual chat.
• How is life now that you have become a maasi for the second time?
Absolutely amazing. The baby boy (Kiaan) is really cute. Samaria looks so much like Sunjay (Kapur) but the newborn looks just like Karisma. It’s celebration time as the family has a boy after a long time.
• 3 Idiots has smashed all box-office records and you have managed to hold your ground in an Aamir Khan film. Comment.
I think it’s also because it is a Raju Hirani film. It’s the first time and Aamir and I starred together so there were a lot of expectations. I feel that I make the best pair with Aamir.
• You only did the film because of Aamir and Raju.
In each of my films, good or bad, I have always stood out irrespective of the presence of other actors. I am doing Ra.One and I have fantastic roles in Agent Vinod and Golmaal 3. I have strived really hard to be known first as an actor then a star. I would hate it if someone tells me that I looked very good in my films and I hope that I am cast for my talent and not for my beauty.
I am here to sell my talent and I take great pride when I am offered a role in a boys’ film like 3 Idiots. I think my audience no longer likes me in films like Kambakkht Ishq and honestly I have realised that I won’t make that mistake again.
• Kurbaan got good reviews but it didn’t work.
An actor is an actor because of failures, not success. A superstar is one who overcomes failures and people remember how good you are in a film, which has not worked. I am what I am because of my flops. Anybody can give two super hits and become number one.
• Is there a long thought process before signing a film now?
Sometimes there is no thought process at all. We actors are like scientists who keep on experimenting. People should know that Kareena takes risks and I did Chameli when I was 23 years old. I don’t care about what people say about Tashan as I gave everything to the film by changing my body. How many actresses have the courage to take up the challenge of transforming themselves especially in this male dominated industry? Tashan was an achievement as I also met Saif during the film. Sometimes flop films and not hits is great news for actors.
• How do you mange to have a good equation with all the Khans?
I have chosen the safest Khan for my personal life. I don’t know if there are any sides as all of them are really different. Saif and I are great friends with Aamir and Shah Rukh is like family. My sister loves Salman.
• It’s said that you are the highest paid actress in the industry today. Is it true?
I don’t know. You tell me as every day there are reports that so and so is charging so much. If there is a list on highest paid actresses, I want to be number ten.
• But the rivalry is evident when it comes to endorsements.
A brand will sign me if they think I am good. There are only three shampoos and three soaps in the market so where does the question of who is the most wanted actress arise? Everybody has brands to endorse.
• How do you manage to take frequent breaks given your busy schedule?
I take lot of off time as it’s very important for an actor to work do great work and take breaks. I must spend time with family and my loved ones or else I will just wear off, I will die, and my looks will fade. I do four movies and 12 brands a year so I need to travel all over the world and explore, which also shows in my acting. I have instructed Zahid (secretary) that after every three months I need to have a break for at least a week to look rejuvenated.
Although I appreciate people who want to work all year, I can’t do it.
• There is so much speculation about your and Saif’s relationship and wedding. Does it affect you?
We have been open about our relationship and that’s why we are the hottest couple. If we get married now there will be no curiosity. We are enjoying all the attention and are used to news about us getting married and breaking up all the time. Whenever we get married, we will let the world will know.
• Are wedding bells five years down the line?
It will be much lesser than that. (Laughs)
• News is that you are buying an IPL team with Saif?
We did go for the bidding and we had all the papers in place but it got cancelled. If we are rebidding, it will be Saif’s call. I don’t understand cricket but Saif follows it. Movies are my only passion.
• There are reports that you and Saif are planning a joint production house?
I want directors and producers to make films for me. I don’t want to make films for myself. Professionally we are dramatically different as I sign a film saying ‘let’s do it’ while Saif won’t do a film till he is 100 per cent sure.
• Are you doing Madhur Bhandarkar’s next film?
I would love to work with Madhur. We are working on a script but nothing has been finalised yet.
• What about Milenge Milenge and the constant issues about Shahid Kapoor?
These talks have resurfaced as Milenge Milenge will soon release. I have told Boney Kapoor (producer) that I am ready to promote the film. As for reports about Shahid and me, I am used to it.

Mumbai: It’s Twitter time in tinseltown. Long after young Hollywood czars and czarinas such as Ashton Kutcher and Lindsay Lohan took up tweeting, Bollywood’s badshahs are following suit.
It’s on Twitter that the latest goings-on are first heard: Actor Abhishek Bachchan was in Goa for the New Year. Film-maker Karan Johar talks about how Twitter is good for lonely souls like him. Actor Shah Rukh Khan is feeling “awful for the Indian hockey team. To play for the country…national sport and have to ask for salary and we complain we don’t win
gold). Akshay Kumar, who has 20,000 followers, tweets about the karate tournament he plans to organise.
Johar’s home page shows how popular Twitter is in Bollywood: Sonakshi Sinha (Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter), Gul Panag, Neha Dhupia, Deepika Padukone, Sameera Reddy and Sophie Chaudhary have signed up on Twitter in the last 10 days.
Actors concede that Twitter has many advantages: confirming or denying a story is now easy. Khan, for instance, denied a story about Aishwarya Rai being a part of his next home production, ‘Ra1’.
It is also a platform to promote films. Some actors upload songs from their film, some discuss their next film and others talk about upcoming projects. Coming up on the Twitterway is a mutual admiration society: I loved the film, her role, what-have-you quotes.
Film-maker Mahesh Bhatt calls it the maxim of the now generation: “I tweet therefore I am. I tweet to tell the world and and myself that I am alive and kicking and also that I have a unusual take on the world.’’ He feels Twitter is about attention-seeking. “As kids we always fought to get attention. Simply put, tweeting is an extension of what we all did as children: ‘ Look, Mummy, I am here.’’
According to industry pundits, Twitter is an excellent brand-building and fan-garnering exercise.
“Social media is the wild west of the marketing landscape, with mainstream advertising yet to figure out its immense possibilities,’’ says Prabhat Choudhary of Spice. He says through networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, a whole new channel of communication is opening up between stars and audiences.
Media honcho Pritish Nandy has a different viewpoint. “Twitter,’’ he says, “has nothing to do with fan following.’’ By that yardstick, he says Ashton Kutcher would have been the world’s most popular tweeter as he has the highest following. “Twitter is an intelligent social media portal (SMP) and those who use it wisely and well can build up a strong, influential group on it, a group that can wield considerable opinion-building power,’’ says Nandy.
But he adds a rider. “The interesting thing with SMPs like Twitter is that the more you use it for commercial purposes, the more you erode your influence. These are not kids. They are clever, intelligent guys, many of whom wield considerable power and influence among other tweeters despite their ostensibly small following. The top 25 tweeters will include at least 50% unknown names.’’ There is a flipside to stars who love to tweet. Building up a fan base is easy, but it is hard to retain them. adds Nandy.
‘All is well’ between him and the Bachchans… or isn’t it?
MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; January 10, 2010)
It’s still the season for acceptance. And 2010 has begun on a very auspicious note for this Prince (his screen character, not a title) of Bollywood after 2009 ended hopefully. Vivek Oberoi, who went on every channel and newspaper saying he has mended his ways, has apparently been accepted (no evidence to say that it is unconditional) by the Bachchans.
At another Bollywood function on Friday, Vivek was again strategically seated right behind Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. (Somebody up there seems to like him… last time it happened was at the annual Police Mela in December when he was next to Ash!) And, the pictures seem to suggest that he was in a very animated conversation with the Big B and Mrs B, though Abhiash and Vivek ignored each other.
A few months ago this bharat-milap would seem implausible. The rumour mills even alleged that though the Big B and Vivek had been signed to endorse the same brand, they wouldn’t share the same frame even for a commercial. Now to think that all this bitterness is a thing of the past. One of these days Vivek may find himself forgiven by Salman Khan also. Or is that being too hopeful?

Munnabhai’s girl Vidya Balan has just inked a brand endorsement deal with Godrej Sara Lee’s GoodKnight Naturals’, a moisturizing mosquito repellent cream.
Vidya Balan, the new face for GoodKnight Naturals, says, “When it comes to applying products on my skin, I am very cautious. Goodknight Naturals mosquito repellent cream has unbelievable properties which make my skin feel safe whilst protecting me from mosquitoes during outdoor shoots, and the best part is that it is non-sticky. I was very excited when Godrej, an age old name and a trusted brand approached me to be a part of this campaign in which this revolutionary product will help fight the mosquito menace.”
The new campaign focuses on communicating the effectiveness of a moisturizer based mosquito repellent cream with the goodness of natural herbs like tulsi and lavender that help fight mosquitoes naturally while keeping the skin nourished and protected with milk. The ad campaign and concept developed by JWT, communicates the powerful combination of safety from mosquitoes and protection of the skin as never before, while highlighting the product offering through their catchy line… ‘Machharon ki haar, skin se pyaar!’
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Tarun Arora, VP Sales & Marketing, Godrej Sara Lee said, “GoodKnight has always offered products which are based on strong consumer insights. The biggest challenge was to overcome the existing mental barriers of people being precarious about using mosquito repellent creams as they are associated with being sticky and harsh on the skin. The new ad positions the product in a way that cues in safety and credibility in a reassuring manner”.
With such a power packed campaign and star power of Vidya Balan, GoodKnight brand will surely strengthen its supremacy in the market.
