Top 10 soundtracks of 2010

0

By Joginder Tuteja, January 3, 2011 – 13:03 IST

2010 wasn’t a year when one evidenced a flurry of blockbuster soundtracks. A few albums did very well, quite a lot didn’t and then there were a few which did make an impression but just about. Also, there isn’t a mighty fight out there for the place at the top as the choices were quite obvious with quite a lot separating one from another. Joginder Tuteja talks about those ten albums that won audience heart over the year gone by.

1. Dabangg (Sajid Wajid – Lalit Pandit)

When the album released, it was perceived as one of those good soundtracks and that’s about it. However, the days of continued promotion changed everything around for this ‘masala’ album which became the spiciest flavour of not just the season but an entire year. Munni Badnaam‘ was a double hundred on comeback from Lalit Pandit while songs like ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain‘ and ‘Chori Kiya‘ were winners as well which made Dabangg a complete album. No wonder, the songs found all around acceptance with not a single soul having anything to say on the contrary. Sajid-Wajid delivered yet again for a Salman Khan starrer and continue to find themselves in the top rung of composers.

2. Tees Maar Khan (Vishal-Shekhar, Shirish Kunder)

For Vishal-Shekhar, 2010 was one of the busiest year of their career. Tees Maar Khan may not have been their best score ever but it was definitely their most successful of 2010 with ‘Sheila Ki Jawani‘ leading the charge. The album More >

Movie Review: I HATE LUV STORYS by FENIL SETA

LOVE! The four-letter word as well as the feeling that everyone must experience! A strange phenomenon where even the most realistically thinking person throws away his practical thought out of the window and starts living in a dreamy world. Expectations reach skyhigh. And in some unfortunate cases, when all the dreams get shattered, the person in love feels like a fool. Normally, in Bollywood, heroes are shown falling for that cute girl and suffering a terrible heartbreak and its repercussions when the girl dumps them for some reason or the other. In case of I Hate Luv Storys, the girl falls for the guy inspite of knowing that he makes fun of love and hates ‘love stories’ and she also experiences that elusive one-sided love feeling (normally reserved for heroes in our cinema) for a part of the film. And this is one of a rare factor of this otherwise predictable film! I Hate Luv Storys may not be that perfect and classic romantic flick but it has its moments and is definitely the perfect treat for the weekend!

The story of the movie: Jay (Imran Khan) is an assistant director and is working under Veer Kapoor (Samir Soni), a very popular Bollywood director, knowing for making hopelessly romantic films. Strangely, Jay hates love and lovey-dovey films. He believes that those who are in love are in need of help as love is sickness! On the other hand, Simran (Sonam Kapoor) is a sucker for love stories and a die-hard romantic. She has a wonderful fiance Raj More >

Music Review: I HATE LUV STORYS by JOGINDER TUTEJA

EXPECTATIONS

When it comes to a film from the house of Karan Johar, you know that the music here would be big. And big doesn’t necessarily mean opulent here, as has been the case with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or Kabhi Alvidaa Naa Kehna. It also means big in terms of class, setting, treatment and overall appeal, as was the case in Karan’s productions (which were helmed by other directors) like Dostana, Kurbaan or Kaal. These films may not have entered the ‘shaava shaava’ zone but had their own place in the sun while fitting in perfectly right as per the genre. Same is expected from I Hate Luv Storys as well which is a romcom with music by Vishal-Shekhar and lyrics by Kumaar, Anvita Dutt and Vishal Dadlani.

MUSIC

BY BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COM

With the name Vishal Dadlani flashing on the cards as the lead singer of the opening ‘Jab Mila Tu‘, one gets the feeling that the composer is fast becoming a prolific singer as well. Is that a reason to complain? Not at all if the end result of ‘Jab Mila Tu‘ is any indication. A young and happening track which has the potential to get popular amongst the campus crowds, this Anvita Dutt track belongs to the kind of soundtrack that goes along with many a Hollywood romcom. A sweet sounding rhythmic track, it does touch upon the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy zone, especially the kind of music that was heard in Wake Up Sid.

What follows next is a beautiful number ‘Bin Tere‘ which is More >
