Salman’s co-star, who was reportedly on the run after being accused of abducting a minor girl, says she had only switched off her phone to avoid being questioned

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 19, 2013)

Sana Khan has finally got a breather. Her anticipatory bail application has been accepted. The actress, set to make her Hindi film debut in the Salman Khan starrer Mental, is charged with attempted abduction’ of a 15-year-old girl. Talking to Mirror on Tuesday, an evidently shaken Sana said: “I don’t want to revisit the nightmare that was the last month. I had done no wrong and I was being implicated.”

Sana has been accused of plotting the abduction of a teenage girl who had spurned a marriage proposal from her cousin Naved. But the actress vehemently rejects the charge levelled against her saying: “Am I mad to try and abduct somebody? Getting a 15-year-old married could give me life imprisonment. Nobody in my family has had a love marriage till date, forget eloping. I have got such a great opportunity to kick-start my career in Bollywood with a film starring Salman Khan. Am I stupid to throw it all for such a thing? ”

So what exactly happened that pushed the girl’s family to lodge an FIR against her? Regaining her composure, Sana says: “Since you insist, I will tell you exactly how it all started. But before that I want to clarify that I am not on the run. But yes, I had disconnected my phone for few days around that time. Too many people were calling up and had no More >

HitList unearths some startling facts about this Salman Khan heroine who has been accused of trying to kidnap a 15- year- old

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; May 30, 2013)

The tinsel town has been buzzing with rumours ever since Sana Khan came under the spotlight recently for her alleged role in an attempted kidnapping case. Soon Sana went underground prompting people wonder aloud about her whereabouts.

However, close friend her Mental co-star Salman Khan immediately took to his microblogging site in support of the starlet. TV actor Rajev Paul also vouched for Sana’s innocence. Sana is wanted by the police allegedly helping her distant relative in trying to ambush 15-year-old girl in Vashi. The starlet has already applied for an anticipatory bail.

Sana’s outburst

When buzz about her disappearing act started making noise, Sana took to Facebook on May 24 to vent her anger against the accusers. She wrote, “People have found easy way to earn money, but I will not let them do tht with me, I will fight and get the real story out for everyone out there!!!” ( sic)

Victim of circumstances?

When our correspondent knocked on Sana’s comfortable two-BHK home in Oshiwara, the domestic help opened the door and in the due course informed us that Sana’s mother Sayeeda had been recuperating from a brain hemorrhage. An aunt from Baroda was at home taking care of Sana’s mother in her absence. Sayeeda apparently doesn’t know that her daughter is wanted by the cops.

Ismail Darbar refutes being somebody difficult to work with

Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; May 1, 2013)

Over cups of green tea, Ismail Darbar takes time out from his busy schedule at the recording studio for Subhash Ghai’s upcoming movie Kaanchi. The music composer talks about returning to film music after eight years, his personal life and the controversies that surround him.

You are giving music after eight years, how did this project happen? The first time when Subhash Ghai called me I became very emotional. Dil ko mere baat lag gayi aur bahut dil se duwayien nikli. I was not in touch with him and after eight years he called me to give music for his movie. I felt the Almighty has sent someone from above to help me.

Devdas was a huge success, yet you gave music for only one movie after that. Why? Yes, Devdas was a huge hit. Eight months later I signed Subhash Ghai’s Kisna. The number eight plays an important part in my life, which I don’t understand, ha ha! I tried calling a few people in between but when they didn’t revert I stopped calling them. It depends on my mood also. I am not egoistic but I have a certain attitude. People in the industry thought I have a lot of ego. The struggle I did also was with dignity. But yes, I am short- tempered.

You had a fall out with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but you were seen at his birthday bash this year? Sanjay and I share a Tom and Jerry relationship. Even when we did not record the first song… from that time we have been fighting. We More >

Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; January 21, 2013)

Ever since she appeared on the last season of Bigg Boss, Karishma Kotak apparently has been getting a flurry of calls from filmmakers. The model is now all set to make her Bollywood debut with Bhola Malviya’s film, Jo Bhi Karva Lo, starring Arshad Warsi.

The actress has hardly had time to rest post her reality show and she’s already started shooting for the film. Incidentally, Karishma had signed this film before Bigg Boss happened and her performance now will be billed as a special appearance.

A source says, “Karishma just wanted to keep her commitment. She has a considerable part to play but likes to call it a guest appearance as the main track focusses around Arshad and his love interest. Big Boss has changed her life in many ways than one and all for the good. While at it, she wants to make the most.”

The actor handpicks Bipasha Basu as the brand ambassador of his celebrity cricket team

Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; December 19, 2012)

Move over Kangna, Sonakshi and even Zarine! Bipasha Basu is Salman Khan’s new girl in town.

The actor has roped in Bips as the brand ambassador for brother Sohail Khan’s Mumbai team for a celebrity cricket tournament.

The announcement is significant since Bipasha and Salman had been known to share cold vibes until last year.

Our source says, “It is a known fact that Salman and John Abraham were not exactly on the best of terms. No one knows what irked Salman but rumours suggest that they had issues during a world tour that they did many years back. Since Bipasha was dating John around that time, she was automatically blacklisted from the Salman Khan camp.” However during an overseas awards ceremony last year, Bips was seen partying with Salman and his group, indicating that after John’s break up, Salman and the actress were friends again. “The olive branch extended by Bipasha has not gone unnoticed by Salman,” adds the source.

Sallu is known to give ‘special recommendations’ for his close friends and allies in the industry.

The source points out, “It is all the more surprising as Bipasha has picked ahead of Salman’s favourite women Kangna Ranaut, Sonakshi Sinha and Zarine Khan.”

BIGG SURPRISE!

Meanwhile, we hear that Bips will also feature on Salman’s reality show Bigg Boss. The actress will launch her fitness DVD on the show and will also be More >

No bikini for Sana Khan in Bigg Boss house

0

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; October 9, 2012)

For Sana Khan, her upcoming stint in ‘Bigg Boss’ might finally give her her share of the spotlight. Having appeared in films like ‘Bombay To Goa’ and ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ and her infamous underwear ad with a monkey, the model-turned-actress says she is hoping to get some mileage out of Salman Khan’s reality show.

However she states that in doing so, she will stick to her traditions and will certainly not sport any ‘offensive’ clothing to attract eyeballs. “I have no connections in the industry. So I think it would be a great platform for me to get good coverage,” says Sana right before stepping into the Bigg Boss house.

In the past, the show landed in a lot of controversy thanks to the abusive language and volatile behaviour from certain housemates. However, Sana states that she has no intention of ‘stooping low’ to get publicity on the show. “I believe if you have a good face then you do not have to display the rest of your body in front of the camera.

I may get dolled up since I have to be in front of the camera 24×7. However, I will not parade in a bikini inside the house just for the heck of it. Instead I am going to be a traditional Indian woman on the show,” she adds. The only thing that is making Sana apprehensive is her lack of culinary skills. Since the members of the show are expected to work in the kitchen as well, she could be in for some trouble!

People keep asking me to recommend them for Bigg Boss-Salman Khan

Salman Khan on why he doesn’t handpick participants for ‘Bigg Boss 6′ and making the content more family-friendly

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; September 27, 2012)

With the sixth season of Bigg Boss almost around the corner, Salman Khan is all geared up to take up the reigns as the show’s host once again. Interestingly this time, the actor has decided to make certain changes to the show’s format to make the content more audience-friendly. However, Sallu points out that he has absolutely no hand in deciding who gets into the Bigg Boss house.

A change in format… why? I thought that on last year’s show, there was too much screaming and shouting in the house. That is why it was pushed to the 11 pm time slot indicating that the show is damaging to our culture. I wanted it to be a family entertainer so that people from the age group of six to 60 can watch it.

Do you have a say on who gets selected for the show? No I don’t get into that. Too many people keep asking me to recommend their names. Then it becomes difficult for me to either choose or drop them. During the last season too, I got to know people once I had shot with them.

But don’t you think certain people on the show become the victims of circumstances? The actual personality of a person tends to come through in such situations. Some of them act, some don’t. Some former housemates have confessed to me that after two or three days in the house, they did not feel the cameras around them anymore. We are trying to More >

Bored of hearing about Veena and me-Ashmit Patel

Actor on his previous link- ups, forthcoming films and his return to the small screen

Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; August 18, 2012)

Though Ashmit Patel is finally working in some films after a gap, he has not given up on the small screen. The actor will be the mentor again for the second season of the reality show Superstud that hunts for studs. He will teach the contestants the art of wooing to be the super stud of the country. After his outing in Bigg Boss in 2010 and his link-ups with inmates Veena Malik and Sara Khan, he was roped in for the first season of the show to teach the art of flirting.

Says Ashmit, “I have a connect with the show and it gives me a chance to meet contestants from across the country. Basically, I have to coach them and provide them tips on how to be the dude. I got the offer after my Bigg Boss outing. I essay myself on the show so it is cool for me.” On the film front, Ashmit recently shot in Fiji for a film that has Veena as co-star while his other project with Sara Khan is a family drama.

He says, “There was a reason why we were cast together. There is a comfort factor working with them. It is better to work with friends as the chemistry comes naturally on screen. When you work with a person you don’t know, it takes a while to be comfortable and portray the chemistry needed for the big screen.” Ask him about his link up with Veena and he states, “I am bored of hearing about Veena and me. I have become used to it and it does not bother More >

Gateful that I am still around-Ashmit Patel

Chaya Unnkrishnan (DNA; August 16, 2012)

Ashmit Patel

Ashmit Patel, whose career got a fresh lease of life with the reality show Bigg Boss, has found a new calling as a TV host. Last year, he had anchored Superstud, a reality show on how to woo a woman and now he is gearing up to host the second season called Superdude. While the concept remains the same, there will be a few changes in the format to make it interesting and intriguing informs the actor.

Incidentally, Ashmit got himself the tag of ladies man when his stint in Bigg Boss had him cosying up to Sara Khan and Veena Malik. There was even talk of Veena and he tying the knot. However, Ashmit dismisses all that with, “I am absolutely single. The fact that Sara and Veena were comfortable with me, shows that I am honest and never put on an act.” And thanks to his reputation as a charmer, he landed himself the unusual show Superstud. “Yes, it was a novel concept. In the rural parts of India, boys and girls are not allowed to interact with each other, so by the time they are in college, boys don’t know how to talk to girls. They end up being either arrogant or brash. That’s where this show helps,” says Ashmit.

Besides TV, Ashmit is also trying his luck in films again. He is curently shooting for a film called Saawariya that has him co-starring Sara Khan! Talking about his journey so far, Ashmit says that depite starring in big banner films at the start of his career, none clicked. “I did four films with the More >
