Pond’s Femina Miss India World 2013, Navneet Kaur Dhillon, is a curious yet endearing mix of something very girlie and delicate, with a steely determination. She doesn’t pause to look for words when she talks about all that she wants to do, or when she speaks aloud her Bollywood dream. And barring that one fleeting moment, when she asked herself ‘Is this a dream or is it really happening?’ when she was crowned a beauty queen, Navneet was pretty much confident of winning.

“Even when I was very young to actually dream about a future, I used to dream about becoming a beauty queen. My dad had seen Aishwarya Rai win the Miss India crown in 1994, and had said that one day, his daughter will also become the beauty queen, and that stuck – not only in my mind, but also in our family,” recounts Navneet, who is pursuing B.Tech in Television, Film Production and Media Technology from Patiala University. And if all this was not enough, she is also a para-legal volunteer with the legal services authority. Ajay Devgn packs up from Bhopal

Ajay Devgn has been camping in Bhopal for more than 45 days to shoot Satyagraha, along with Kareena Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. The gruelling schedule, which saw the actors shoot under some rather extreme weather conditions, finally drew to a close last afternoon. Contrary to reports, Ajay does not play a character inspired by Arvind Kejriwal, but an NRI entrepreneur who comes to India and turns to activism. The actor has been on location for almost all of the 45 days, barring a couple of days he took off to celebrate his daughter’s birthday and to promote Himmatwala. In these scenes, shot just before the film wrapped up, Ajay is seen delivering a rousing speech to an agitated crowd, and later attacked by water canons. A similar scene had been shot earlier with Amitabh Bachchan.

Looks like Bachchans have a strong connection with Bhopal. According to sources, while Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for Prakash Jha’s film, Satyagraha in Bhopal, he used his free time to scour for a suitable residential property to set up another home.

Interestingly, the legendary actor has a special connection with the city as his wife Jaya’s mother Indira resides there. It is said that the Bachchans already have two flats and some land in Bhopal. This time AB is apparently interested in buying a property at the outskirts of the city of lakes.

The source adds, “Bachchan saab was here for the shooting of Prakash Jha’s movie and he had earlier expressed how he likes the place for its lush green ambience.” Apparently Big B had stayed back for a day after the shooting to finish some work and the hunt is still on for the coveted property.

Another source from Bhopal revealed that someone close to the Bachchans had mentioned that the family loves the city so much that he took the latest addition in the family — granddaughter Aaradhya — to his mother-in-law’s place.

Even during his earlier shooting schedule for Satyagraha, he was seen visiting his favourite places in the city.

Bachchan remained unavailable for comment.

Sajid Khan finally steps out; spotted in Bhopal with Ajay Devgn

Sajid Khan, who has gone into hibernation after the debacle of Himmatwala, was recently spotted in Bhopal. The director was in the city of lakes to catch up with buddy Ajay Devgn who is shooting there for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha.

Says a source, “Sajid was in Bhopal for a day. He however did not meet Devgn on the sets but in his hotel. He met him in his hotel room to avoid any unwanted attention.” The director had also visited the actor last month when the first schedule of the film was on. Adds the source, “Sajid is extremely close to Ajay. In his difficult time, he is spending time with his near and dear ones. He is extremely hurt but he will bounce back soon.” Sajid has not made a public appearance since the film’s verdict was out and has remained incommunicado.

Madness as crowd goes crazy at Zarine Khan’s event in Bhopal

Zarine Khan may be missing in action from the big screen but she keeps herself occupied with event launches. She is one of the names on the appearance market all over the country. The Veer and Housefull 2 actress was recently invited to Bhopal for a store launch which proved to be an intimidating experience for her.

Says a source, “Zarine reached the store at 2 pm and was supposed to leave by 3.15 pm to catch a flight back to Mumbai. However after the ribbon cutting, the crowd that had gathered refused to move. They kept chanting her Salman Khan-starrer Character Dheela item number from Ready.” Adds the onlooker, “As the crowd kept multiplying, the security wasn’t enough for crowd control. Zarine and her manager were stuck inside the store for an hour. But the crowd seemed relentless and began to grow impatient. The organisers had no choice but to request her to address the crowd directly.

She greeted the onlookers and requested them to clear the way so that she could leave for the airport to catch her flight. It was only then that the security managed to create a path between the excited onlookers to escort her to her car.” Looks like there is no escaping the Salman and Character Dheela mania!

Manoj Bajpayee visits Bharat Bhawan; goes down memory lane

It was a déjà vu moment for Manoj Bajpayee as he visited Bharat Bhawan in Bhopal. He was recently in the city of lakes for the shoot of Satyagraha and had the Sunday off to do as he pleased.

Manoj apparently used to visit the theatre very often when he was a stage actor.

A source says, “Manoj performed at the Bharat Bhavan 15 years ago. Whenever he is in Bhopal, he makes it a point to go there for old times’ sake.” The actor states, “It was a nostalgic trip. On my visit there, I also met some artistes. I sat around in the canteen taking in the scenes. Nothing much has changed here. My last play there was called Holi.”

The actor also indulged in some gastronomic affair in the city. The source says, “He also asked his chef to prepare biryani. He was in Bhopal for a small schedule and returned to Mumbai on Monday.” The actor also tweeted a picture of him sitting in the Bharat Bhawan canteen.

When Saif Ali Khan dropped by at Bhopal to check on his begum, he was mighty surprised to see none other than Kareena Kapoor at the airport. Bebo has been shooting at Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha and has been away from home for a while.

Sources say the actress had decided to surprise her hubby by coming to pick him up at the airport.

Saif reached Bhopal on a Sunday and Kareena had the day off. No surprises that the couple spent most of the day inside Bebo’s room.

A source from the hotel where Bebo is currently staying states, “She had also decided on the menu for the meal they were to enjoy at the hotel. They had dinner together. The actress was glowing when she went to pick the Nawab up.”

On his return journey too, Kareena personally saw Saif off at the Bhopal airport.

The source adds, “The begum knows Saif’s tastes very well. After all, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” According to sources, Saif feasted on kathi roll, seekh kebab, mutton biryani and diet cola while Kareena enjoyed an assortment of cheese chilly toast, brown rice, yellow dal, and bhindi.

Now that’s what friends are for. Sajid Khan flew all the way to Bhopal to meet Ajay Devgn, who hadn’t been able to see in person since the past two weeks.

Ajay has been busy shooting in the city of lakes for his upcoming film Satyagraha with Prakash Jha. After spending the weekend together, the duo returned to Mumbai.

Says Sajid, “There were a few mediapersons who wanted to interview us together. But interview toh bahana tha! I hadn’t met Ajay for two weeks and we both wanted to catch up. He was busy shooting, so instead I went to meet him.” The two apparently lounged around in the balcony of the actor’s hotel room and even had dinner together.

The filmmaker also states how he too would want to shoot a film in Bhopal sometime in the future. Sajid adds, “Bhopal is a very picturesque place and I have been here a couple of times earlier.”

For the first time in her entire career Kareena Kapoor has shot crowd scenes. Prakash Jha, known to capture his actors at mammoth public rallies (remember Katrina Kaif’s public speech in Raajneeti), made it known to Kareena at the beginning of Satyagraha shooting that there would be sequences involving crowds of 300-400 junior artistes and locals. It is common kntowledge that most actresses are not comfortable doing crowd scenes, given the mob mentality. Some actresses ask for a double to do the scene instead, but Bebo willingly did her bit, without any hesitation.

To her credit Kareena, who plays an investigative journalist in Jha’s film, was game for the novel experience of mingling with the mob, from the start. Says a source from Bhopal, “Kareena was neither intimidated by the Big B with whom she faced the camera with utmost fluency, nor did she get daunted when she had to mingle with huge crowds,something she had never done before in her career. Madhya Pradesh is a sasural for both Amitabh and Kareena and the people of Bhopal treat them accordingly with utmost respect.”

Amitabh Bachchan is currently shooting in Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha. Apparently, his bahu Aishwarya and granddaughter Aaradhya accompanied him to the shoot and found Big B’s reel-life bahu, Amrita Rao, waiting for him. Satyagraha has an impressive star cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee and is set to release in August this year. We wonder how Bhopal is coping up with the star power!
