Jimmy Sheirgill is in elite company. After Naseeruddin Shah/Arshad Warsi (Ishqiya) and Salman Khan (Dabangg) set the screen on fire with their terrific performance in their respective films, both of which had a small town setting to it, it is Jimmy who would be entering a similar zone. The film is titled Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster and while it has a small town setting to it, it also features Jimmy as a ‘sahab’ with a touch of royalty to it.
Smiles Jimmy, “After playing an NRI in My Name Is Khan and a desi munda in Mel Karade Rabba, I guess it should be good fun to step into something entirely different in Sahib Biwi aur Gangster. As the title suggests, the film is being designed as a complete entertainer with some realistic narrative. It would be one action thriller to watch out for next year.”
Slated to go on floors in October with a start-to-finish schedule that would end in November, Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster would feature Mahie Gill as the ‘biwi’ and Randeep Hooda as the ‘gangster’. Quite an interesting combination, one has to admit. Also, the film would be directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia who has earlier directed Jimmy in Haasil and Charas.
“Tigmanshu and I have a tuning. Moreover, Haasil again had a small town setting though the plot is altogether different this time around. While Haasil was about student politics, Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster has a really novel and interesting script. I don’t really wish to divulge much here but I guess you can make out a lot yourself from the title”, says Jimmy who would be growing a moustache for this film.
Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster is based in UP and chances are that the film would be shot on some of the real locations in the state. Since Charas , Tigmanshu has been waiting for a film of his to release with Paan Singh Tomar [with Irrfan Khan] hunting for the right release date and quite a few films being announced (Shagird, Con Flick, Ghulami, Ghayal 2, Fame) but not quite making much progress. For Tigmanshu’s sake, one does hope that Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster does get completed and released soon.
While for Jimmy, one can expect a tailor-made role due to his earlier working relationship with Tigmanshu, one really looks forward to Mahie Gill getting a much better screen time than Gulaal and Dabangg. In both the films she got a raw deal with not much to cheer about. Coincidentally, she played a small town young woman in both the films. As for Randeep, one can well expect a meaty role, especially after Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. Moreover, he is also working with Tigmanshu in their other film together, Bhiwani, where he plays the role of a boxer.
Overjoyed with the narration of the script of Double Dhamaal, Indra Kumar doubles the writers’ fee
MUMBAI MIRROR; August 16, 2010
Script writers in Bollywood are known to be the worst paid; barring the big-budgeted Blue of course (the film had no script). But Indra Kumar has decided to make amends. For Double Dhamaal, a sequel to his earlier film Dhamaal, the director has decided to pay his writers double the remuneration that was offered to them earlier.
The reason: apparently, Indra was beside himself with joy after hearing the script of the film.
Our source said, “Last week, Indra Kumar had the narration for the final draft of Double Dhamaal. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Ritesh Deshmukh amongst others. The writers of the film Tushar Hiranandani (story-screenplay) and Sajid-Farhad (dialogues) were present there. So happy was Indra Kumar after the narration that he promised them double the amount of their fee.”
When contacted, Indra Kumar said, “Yes it is true. I loved the work of Tushar and Sajid-Farhan a lot. It was something that I promised instinctively and I think they deserve it.”
Writer Tushar Hiranandani said, “Yes Indraji liked our script so much that he doubled our fee.” Recession’s history for sure.
Punit Malhotra held focus group screenings for I Hate Luv Storys, was relieved to find that the audience liked his debut
Debutant director Punit Malhotra is leaving no path unexplored to ensure that his debut film I Hate Luv Storys starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor works at the box office. The young director held focus group screenings for various age groups recently to evaluate the end product. He asked for feedback in order to take care of the flaws prior to the release.
The young director had a discussion with producer Karan Johar, who normally has focus group screenings, and was given the green signal to start this exercise.
So far there have been five screenings for people of different age groups, varying from 18-25, 25-35, 35-50 and 50 plus years. Punit says, “It is a regular exercise that filmmakers follow. It helps directors understand and get honest feedback from their audience. Each person has an opinion and I am glad everyone was forthcoming with their views and opinions.”
Punit is glad that the movie was appreciated by the motley group. “I will obviously be telling you everything positive,” he laughs. When asked if he would be making changes in the film after the feedback, he says, “Well, not really. I got different opinions from individuals but not from groups as a whole. What matters to me is that the movie should be liked overall and the end product was liked by everyone.”
He adds, “It is a simple sweet love story and I have left it in its basic form. I am delivering a love story to my audience with utmost simplicity.”
Past focus group screening
• Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan starrer Ishqiya was reshot. The film’s explicit dialogues were objected to by women audiences in a focus group screening, leading wary producers to rework parts of the movie.
• For 3 Idiots, Aamir called people from different strata and took their reaction. Over a thousand people saw the film and the director had to take a few minor edit calls, but didn’t have to reshoot anything.
• The Mamu song in Munnabhai MBBS was added after the screenings for the focus groups. It was background music at first, but after the focus groups gave their views, Raju Hirani felt the need to insert a song there.
• Milap Zaveri held two test screenings Jaane Kahaan Se Aayee Hai. 500-odd viewers were picked up from coffee shops and shopping malls and he reshot a few scenes based on the response. The audience loved the camaraderie between Vishal Malhotra and Ritesh Deshmukh. So the director deleted a one-minute scene and added one more scene between the two.

Is there anyone out there who can claim to have not slept for almost 50 hours at a stretch? Well, if happen to be Arshad Warsi, then, you can claim so! The reason? Arshad, who is currently shooting in Goa for Golmaal 3, shot for the movie all night, post that, he caught an early flight to judge the new reality dance show ‘Zara Nach Ke Dekha’ (ZNKD) and then shoots for it all day long and returns back to Goa for the movie shoot!
The result of which – Arshad was sleepless for almost 50 hours! A source close to Bollywood Hungama revealed, “Arshad has been taking the 6 am flight to Mumbai and shooting for ZNKD all day and night till 5 am and then takes the 6 am flight back to Goa and shoots for Golmaal 3. It gets pretty tiring!”
So is Arshad complaining? The answer is no! Arshad is not at all complaining. It’s just that he is just tired by shooting round the clock, but somehow he feels that by the end of the day it gives him a sense of self satisfaction.
Talk about talking the saying ‘Work is worship’ to the next level!
Goa’s Tobacco Control Cell official has filed a police complaint against Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi on Wednesday for smoking in a college campus in Goa. Warsi was here to shoot for a Bollywood film.
In his complaint to the district superintendent of police (South), the state Tobacco Control Cell’s nodal officer Dr Ravindra Nadkarni wrote that they had received a complaint from National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) general secretary Shekhar Salkar that the actor, who was shooting in the Chowgule College campus at Margao, was seen smoking in the campus on Monday.
Confirming that a police complaint was lodged, Nadkarni said, “We received a complaint and once we received photographs that established the actor was smoking in the campus, we lodged a police complaint”.
Earlier in his complaint to Nadkarni, NOTE general secretary had said that Warsi was even signing autographs for children with a cigarette between his fingers. “Such behaviour and violation of the no smoking norm is unacceptable. The college authorities should also be fined for letting them smoke in campus,” Salkar said.
In the letter, Salkar added, “Chief secretary Sanjay Srivastava, in the last state Tobacco Control Cell meeting, had specifically asked the police to implement the anti-smoking law ruthlessly within school and college campuses and about 100 yards around the educational institutions. They should implement the laws properly.”
Also with the Bollywood actor shooting in North Goa on Wednesday, Salkar, who had in the past dragged Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan to court for encouraging smoking, has requested SP (north) to ensure that actors shooting for a film here don’t smoke in a public place.
Remember the comedy Dhamaal which released in 2007 starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Ritesh Deshmukh, Javed Jaffery and Ashish Chowdhary? It’s claim to fame was that it was an all-boys affair and had no female lead.
Even when the sequel to the film was announced earlier this year by producer Ashok Thakeria and director Indra Kumar, it was declared that Dhamaal 2 also wouldn’t have any heroines.
Now suddenly, the makers have changed their mind. Just three months before Dhamaal 2 goes on the floors, two heroines have been added to the project, thereby ending the all-boys claim.
Confirming the development, producer Ashok Thakeria says, “We’d never made a policy decision not to have girls in Dhamaal. It just so happened that the film had no women characters. For the sequel too, we initially thought we would carry forward the same trend. However, as the script developed, there was room for the girls too. So we have added roles for two heroines.”
There is word that the roles for female leads were added on the insistence of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy may be finalised for the parts.
