When Rohan Sippy angered Bipasha
0By Joginder Tuteja, April 4, 2011 – 08:02 IST
A firm anti-smoker, Bipasha Basu had put down her foot when asked to smoke for camera in Dum Maaro Dum. On the other hand, director Rohan Sippy wanted her to look authentic in her role as a hippie and hence wanted her to practice lighting a joint. After much persuasion Bipasha agreed to smoke just once so that her director gets the best shot.
“Bipasha is a health freak and is against smoking. In fact she doesn’t even like when people around her smoke either. She agreed to do Dum Maaro Dum because the film takes an anti-drug stance. However she had managed to convince Rohan that she would not smoke in the film even if her character required that”, informs a friend of Bipasha, “In fact earlier too when Madhur Bhandarkar had asked her to smoke for Corporate, she had put her foot down and said a firm ‘No’.”
However Rohan eventually managed to have his way and convinced Bipasha that to make her character believable for audience, she had to roll a joint and puff for at least one shot. The lady went on to lose the argument and started preparing for the scene which is one of the major highlights of Dum Maaro Dum. Just when she was getting ready for the take though, Bipasha realised to her horror that the shot had been done away from the film.
“Here I am spending an entire day rolling nicotine into paper and trying to make a cigarette and there Rohan goes on to completely do away with the shot”, says Bipasha More >
Casting Ouch for Vidhu
0Scamsters claiming to cast for his Ferrari Ki Sawaari have duped hundreds to the tune of Rs 40000 each, after convincing victims that they have been chosen to play a role
Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 15, 2011)
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is in a state of shock. The casting of his film Ferrari Ki Sawaari has found some unlikely volunteers.
Fraudsters claiming to his casting agents have charged gullible parents Rs 40,000 after convincing them that their kids have been finalised for a role in the forthcoming film.
Once the money was deposited in a bank account in Guwahati, the culprits never got back to these tinsel town aspirants.
Our source said, “Ferrari Ki Sawaari is one of the biggest films of the year. The film has Sharman playing the lead role. But also an important role in the film is that of Sharman’s son’s.
While Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his office are still casting for the film, fraudsters have been duping innocent parents, pretending to cast for the kid’s role.
With names like Rajkumar Hirani and Vinod Chopra associated with the project, parents fell for the game easily.
The matter would have continued unabated. However some concerned parents wrote to Vinod Chopra on his official website and that’s when he became aware of the scam.”
When contacted, an angry Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, “There are numerous emails in my personal account as well as the website.
There are so many parents who are complaining that they have sent money to an account to a bank More >
Ajay threatens to leave JDJ 4 sets after told not to smoke?
0Despite being told to not smoke on the sets of a television show, a stubborn Ajay Devgn refused to put out his cigarette and threatened to leave
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 21, 2011)
Take a deep breath and read on. That Ajay Devgn is a chain smoker is known. But we had not known him to defy rules because of his addiction, until last afternoon.
Devgn defied the ‘No Smoking’ rule on the sets of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4.
The story goes that Devgn was on the sets to promote Madhur Bhandarkar’s forthcoming rom-com Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, which stars him. His co-star Emraan Hashmi had also accompanied him and both actors were in their respective vanity vans. As soon as Devgn entered the sets of the show, he lit up a cigarette.
On noticing this, a production guy soon ran up to Ajay and said, “Sir, aap cigarette bujha dijiye. Yahan par smoke karna mana hai’. But the words only got Devgn livid. Instead of stubbing the cigarette, Ajay’s angry retort was, “If you want me to put it out, I shall walk out. Do you want me here or no?” Ajay then resumed smoking his cigarette. Left with no alternative but to deal with Ajay’s obstinacy, the production guy left from there.
Confirming the incident, an eyewitness said, “Yes, this did happen. Ajay was told not to smoke, since the set was a closed one. But neither the production house nor the broadcasters of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 could do anything to stop him from smoking.”

Bhupathi’s ex-wife speaks
0Shveta Jaishankar has found a second lease of life in love and career. So what did it take to come back on track?
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 11, 2010)
Mahesh Bhupathi’s ex-wife Shveta Jaishankar has re-claimed her energy; and it seems all’s well with her world. There was a time, soon after her break-up with husband Mahesh Bhupathi, that she had shut out the world altogether. But that’s in the past.
“I have met someone who is very lovely and grounded. I am smiling again,” said Shveta, choosing to keep the identity of the man in question a secret. She is not in a rush, but does not rule out marriage, the second time over either.
“Of course, I shall marry. I am quite young. I believe in marriage. I would even like to raise a family,” she said, adding in the same breath, “Yeah. There was a time when I felt I didn’t have any hope. But luckily, I have supportive parents. I am their only child and they encouraged me to bounce back.”
yogen shah“When I realised that all was not well in my marriage, my world crumbled. It was a sudden bolt from the blue. I felt as if someone had pulled out the carpet from beneath my feet. Why me, I asked myself? It wasn’t easy and I was angry. I was hurt. I had only questions and no answers. But today, I have put my past behind me.”
Even as she was in the thick of the break-up, Shveta thought it wise to extricate herself from all the noise around her. “I decided to slow down a bit. I More >
Sajid Khan, Manish Gupta’s ugly spat
0Sajid Khan and Stoneman Murders director Manish Gupta had an ugly spat at the MAMI forum in Chandan Cinema on Sunday afternoon.
Talking to Mumbai Mirror, Manish says, “Yes, Sajid and I had a war of words. I didn’t like what he said about scriptwriters in our country.”
What exactly did Sajid say? Alleges Manish, “Sajid said that we don’t have good scriptwriters in India, which is why Indian filmmakers tend to copy Hollywood films.”
Manish says that he retaliated. “I told him that there is no lack of courage in Indian writers. It is just that directors in India don’t treat writers very well and even underpay them, which is why many writers like Abbas Tyrewala, Anurag Kashyap, Aneez Bazmee, Rumi Jaffrey, Milap Zaveri, Sanjay Chhel and Manoj Tyagi move on to become directors.”
Manish further alleged, “What Sajid said to that, he shook me up very badly.
He said that all the names that I have quoted are directors who know nothing about what the audience wants, whose films have flopped, and who have consequently gone back to writing.” The argument then got uglier and the mike had to be taken away from Manish. “Yes, I was very upset and angry,” said he.
While a friend of Sajid said, “It was a forum and there are bound to be discussions,” Sajid himself remained unavailable for comment. He must have been renting the latest Hollywood DVD.
Munni Badnaam lifted from a Pak movie song
0India’s disco anthem is a straight lift from a little-known film from across the border

While Munni sang and danced (and made disrepute sound desirable) it would be interesting to see how the producer and music director of Dabangg themselves deal with some ‘badnami’ now.
Dabangg’s original soundtrack may be flying off the shelves, as confirmed by leading music shops in the city, but here is a screechy footnote: the album’s chartbuster — Munni Badnaam Hui — is a straight lift from the soundtrack of a Pakistani film.
The movie is Mr Charlie and the song ‘Ladka badnaam hua haseena tere liye’ (CHECK SONG BELOW). The Pakistani song, which has been copied note for note by Lalit Pandit (of Jatin-Lalit fame) for Dabangg, was recorded back in 1993.
That year, to put things in perspective, two films of Salman’s released — Chandra Mukhi and Dil Tera Aashiq. Both bombed at the box office.
‘Ladka badnaam hua haseena tere liye’ was picturised on Pakistani stand-up comedian-actor-producer-director Umer Sharif.
The song’s lyrics are the only original element in its copy in Dabangg. When we contacted Sharif in Pakistan, he sounded both amused and angry. “Yeh chori nahin, seena zori hein,” he said, and added that he had heard about the plagiarisation a couple of days back. “I am more surprised than angry.
Comedian Umer Sharif, of Bakra More >Intimate scenes in front of Abbas? Why not!-Pakhi
1Hubby Abbas Tyrewala’s presence behind the camera helped Pakhi sail through romantic scenes
Deepali Dhingra (BOMBAY TIMES; August 30, 2010)
If people think that Pakhi had it really easy getting the lead role opposite John Abraham in hubby Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi, the petite lady has something to reveal. Apparently, she too has been rejected for a role once! “That was during Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na,” she giggles, “We couldn’t find anyone for the role that Manjari Phadnis played later. I auditioned for that role. I was rejected and was so completely heartbroken, that I never thought I would ever become an actress!”But here she is today, playing the lead and having written the script of the film as well. With her own husband directing her, how was she able to separate the wife from the actress? “Abbas really pampers me at home and I can get away with almost anything,” she says candidly, “But on the sets, he’s the boss! In fact, I used to call him ‘sir’ on the sets!” And doing intimate scenes with him around, was a bonus, instead of a burden for Pakhi. “That’s because it was my husband directing and guiding me. I felt far more calmer doing romantic scenes,” she replies.
One hears that Pakhi had stormed out of a screening as she had been unhappy about the length of her role in the film. The actress pooh-poohs the rumour. “I’m the writer of the film and I was very clear that it was John’s journey and his ordeal that is the focus of the More >

Yogesh Sadhwani and Lekha Menon (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 30, 2010)
Rahul Mahajan’s second wife, Kolkata model Dimpy Ganguly, left his Worli house in the early hours of Thursday after what she has described as a night of violent abuse.
Mumbai Mirror met up with Dimpy at Dadar on Thursday, just hours after she left Rahul’s house vowing never to return. There were bruises on her shin, right and left hand, while her left cheek was swollen. There was also a lump on her head.
Dimpy Ganguly (from left) shows a bruise on her leg and one on her arm; (right) with her cousin Dipankar RoyDimpy said Rahul beat her up early on Thursday morning after waking her up to know the contents of a message that had just beeped on her phone. Since the phone had the key-pad lock on, Rahul was unable to operate it.
When Dimpy asked him to let her sleep, he flew into a rage and began hitting her. She said he punched, kicked and dragged her by her hair.
When she could not take it any more, Dimpy pushed him, picked up her phone, ran down the stairs and hid in the passageway. This was 3.30 am. Dimpy then called a friend, who picked her up around 4 am.
Her father arrived at Rahul’s house at 4 pm after she related the incident to him over the phone. That’s when she returned to the house, packed her bags and left.
When contacted, Rahul denied he hit Dimpy. “It is not true at all. I just More >
Katrina breaks down at ‘personal’ press conference
0Attacked with personal questions and remarks at a press conference, about her break-up with Salman Khan, the actress started bawling. Personal questions are banned from now
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 26, 2010)On Tuesday evening Katrina attended the worst press conference of her life, where a session organised for one of the brands the actress endorses turned out to be a free-for-all grueling barrage of questions about her split with Salman Khan.
At first Katrina took it in her stride and tried to smile through most of the questions. But soon, completely unnerved by the jibes and comments from the members of the press, Katrina lost all control over her emotions and blurted, “If Salman says we’ve split, it must be true.” She walked out of press conference soon after. But this wasn’t before she actually bawled in front of everyone.
A close friend, who accompanied the actress, said, “Katrina is a strong girl and not prone to public display of emotion. But on Tuesday night she broke down and wept after the event, wondering why she was being subjected to questions on something that Salman had said.”
Elaborating on why Katrina is so angry, her friend added, “Firstly, it was unfair of Salman to speak about their so-called split; they had decided between themselves that they would never talk in public about what transpired between them.
Katrina has been hurting ever since Salman made the remark that he is now single. Katrina, on the More >
