1WILL BIPASHA BE SECOND TIME LUCKY WITH AATMA?
Bipasha Basu has won hearts over the years but faced a race patch after she delivered back-to-back flops. However, Raaz 3 changed it all. The film was a commercial blockbuster and her performance was most appreciated. Now after Raaz 3, it’s time for another horror drama – Aatma.
Aatma looks great for various reasons. To begin with, it features Nawazuddin Siddiqui who till now has found solace in out-of-the-box and serious cinema (although Talaash too had a hint of supernatural). The film, secondly, looks rich and in many ways an ideal horror film. There are no spacious haunted bungalows, blood, gore, and ugly ghosts dominating the frame. Instead, the setting is more real. The 5-year-old Doyel Dhawan seems to be the attraction of the film. The prodigy has been seen in promotions as well and it’s a treat to read and listen about her ‘starry tantrums’. Music is worth a try too.
However, buzz for the film is very limited. A huge opening, sadly, is out of question. However, horror films should never be underestimated. It can grow from Day 2 onwards. Also, film has limited competition from Rangrezz.
The other release of the week is Rangrezz. It is Jackky Bhagnani’s fourth film and produced, obviously, by his father Mr Vashu Bhagnani. Priyadarshan has directed this flick which is a remake of an acclaimed Tamil film Naadodigal. Priya Anand, who wowed audiences as Sridevi’s niece in English Vinglish, is paired opp Jackky. Juhi Chawla plays vamp to Madhuri Dixit in Gulab Gang
0The former rivals will come together for the first time in their upcoming ambitious venture
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; January 24, 2013)
Considered arch rivals, Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit were never cast together in a film. But now Juhi is playing vamp to Madhuri’s heroine in their forthcoming film Gulab Gang. “I have a couple of scenes with her, which we have already shot. It’s been lovely because there was no pressure. Earlier, we were constantly compared — both of us were playing heroines to the same heroes and trying to do similar things. Now, I am the vamp and she is the heroine. It’s fine, and together we will make the film rock,” reveals Juhi. This is the first time in her career that the actress will be playing a negative role. “That’s what interested me besides the script, which has a lot of punch ” says Juhi, who will be seen in Main Krishna Hoon next. “In that film, it’s the kind of Juhi you have seen and liked – funny, emotional and interacting with kids,” she smiles.
Juhi will also be seen as a guest in the first episode of a new TV show Safar Filmi Comedy Ka. Juhi, who has an excellent comic timing herself, considers Andaz Apna Apna to be the most hilarious film. “I have seen it twice and both times I doubled up with laughter,” she says. Ask her who among her co-stars was the best in comedy and pat comes the reply “Govinda. He was fantastic when it came to comedy. It was both interesting and challenging to improvise with him,” says the actress.
I have given a lot of flops too-Salman Khan
0The actor gets candid about his track record at the box office and challenges his critics to speak out loud in the open
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; December 21, 2012)
Salman Khan is busy promoting his upcoming film, which also marks the debut of his brother Arbaaz Khan as a director. Khan who is known to hate giving interviews to the media is thankfully at his candid best today. Chilling between a series of tete-a-tetes at Bandra’s Mehboob Studios, Salman Khan talks to us…
Is Dabangg 2 going to be your birthday treat? If people enjoy the film then it is a Christmas and birthday treat. Agar picture nahi chali to kaunsa treat? Jis hisaab se humko reactions mille hai, they are similar to what the first Dabangg was, so I think we are in the safe zone. I think emotionally, ethically and principally this film is correct. It is larger than the earlier one but neither very similar to the first one, nor very different.
But these days audiences come to see only Salman Khan in a film? No yaar. It’s a whole package. Salman Khan ne bahut badi badi bhi di hai (flops). Now if I do a pakao film, which has lot of bhashanbaazi, no one will come to watch. Dabangg is a film which people can watch with their friends, family and girlfriend and have fun.
People talk about your successful streak now but you had given nine straight hits when you started your career? Yes, there were nine films before Love flopped. That’s why I say let the audience decide. Tab mera dimmag agar kharab hona hota to More >
Andaz Apna Apna animated version to have new plot
0The classic 1994 comic caper Andaz Apna Apna’s animated version will now have a new storyline
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 26, 2011)
The CEO of iRock Films, Siddharth Jain, is busy trying to generate an element of surprise for the upcoming animated version of the 1994 super-hit comedy Andaz Apna Apna. Mumbai Mirror has successfully unravelled the mystery.
Apparently, Jain promises that the film, which is slated to release in the summer of 2012, will incorporate a few marked changes from the original storyline.
The original movie, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, starred Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor.
While Jain might be taking risks with his storyline for the animated version, he knows better than to leave the Dabangg Khan in the dark.
A source explains, “Jain feels that there is no point in coming up with a replica of the original. The comedy will be madder.
The film will be even more hilarious. A rough promo of the animated version, which hints at the changes too, has been shown to Salman.”
When contacted, Jain refrained from giving out any details.
However, Santoshi confirmed, “Yes, I have heard that Salman has seen the promo. And as far as I know, he loved it.”
Abhi-Ash to star in Ladies & Gentleman
0By Subhash K. Jha, March 26, 2011 – 17:09 IST
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be playing the steady woman in ‘Casanova’ Abhishek’s life for Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Ladies & Gentleman. After having done everything from a family drama (Dhai Akshar Prem Ke) to a bio-pic (Guru) to a modern-day drama (Raavan) together, this is Aishwarya’s opportunity to have fun with Abhishek…at his expense.
In Santoshi’s film which he starts shooting in July, Abhishek plays a guy with an insatiable roving eye. Aishwarya has sportingly agreed to let her husband play the field on screen. 3 years ago, she refused Dostana with Abhishek because her character was shown walking away with another man. “I don’t think that would go down well with our fans,” she had argued.
“That’s Ash for you… beautiful and dutiful to the core. She won’t do any role that compromises her personal dignity or image as the Bachchan bahu. But if Abhishek is playing a devious unfaithful character she doesn’t mind bending the gender rules,” says a close friend of the couple.
This would be their first rom-com together.
For the first time in his career, Abhishek plays a full-blown womanizer in Ladies & Gentleman. And Aishwarya has no objections to him romancing several girls in her presence, albeit on screen.
Laughs Santoshi, “I had actually offered this film to Aishwarya five years ago. And look at destiny. It’s come back to her. Every role is earmarked for a particular actor. I feel Aishwarya is perfect for this film. More >

However the last project which Sid announced took everyone by surprise. He said, “We would also be making an animation sequel to a very popular film – Andaz Apna Apna. We are pretty focused that we are creating content for the youth in the age group of 13-35 years.”

Santoshi owes 1.10 cr to K Sera Sera?
0Despite his latest hit Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, director Raj Kumar Santoshi owes more than a crore to K Sera Sera and has been making excuses for not returning the money to them, for three years now.
Threatening to take the matter to court soon, Sanjay Lai, MD, K Sera Sera, informs, “We had signed Santoshi for a film in 2007 and paid him Rs 1.10 crore but since the film didn’t take off we requested him to return the money.
After dilly-dallying for a while he flatly told us that he doesn’t have the money to pay us.
He gave us a very strange argument saying that if he pays us the money he will not be able to run his kitchen.”
A strange excuse indeed. Mr Santoshi does seem to live up to one of his titles, Andaz Apna Apna.
Ranbir-Santoshi to team up again in 2011
0Rajkumar Santoshi is planning another comedy with Ranbir Kapoor next year
By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 26, 2010)// // // After the grim, the grin. As soon as Rajkumar Santoshi wraps up shooting for the English language thriller The Outsider with Amitabh Bachchan in New York, he will be back to the desi masala genre.
Having tasted success with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rajkumar Santoshi is determined to return to comedy in 2011, with Ranbir Kapoor again in the lead. The director says, “After Andaz Apna Apna and Ajab Prem…., the pressure to complete a hat-trick of comedies is immense.
But let me make it clear, Ranbir and I aren’t doing another comedy like Ajab… This time I have a far more subtle and understated comic subject in mind. It will be a new language for comedy, nothing like what we’ve seen already.”
Meanwhile, Amitabh will be doing a month-long workshop with the American cast before the shooting of The Outsider starts in July.
