Why did Rajkumar Santoshi’s train get derailed?
0With debts running into crores of rupees and five non-starter projects in his kitty, how did the hitmaker who gave us films like Ghayal and Damini suddenly turn into an industry pariah

The man who gave us hits like Ghayal, Damini and more recently Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani has suddenly become a pariah of sorts in the industry, what with debts running into crores of rupees. One wonders what went wrong? Rajkumar Santoshi has announced five films in less than three years. Firoz Nadiadwala’s Power starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor. Ramayan starring Ajay Devgn and Kajol, Ashtavinayak’s Ladies and Gentleman, a film starring Abhay Deol-Sonam Kapoor, and a film for Vashu Bhagnani. However, till date, none of these films have gone on floors save for Power which too got shelved after eight days of shooting. Has Santoshi lost his midas touch? The director has allegedly taken big signing amounts from several producers and not only been unable to put the projects on the runway but also not returned the monies. A source from Ashtavinayak told Mirror Santoshi owes them nearly Rs 4 crore but has been ignoring their calls and messages. “We were supposed to make Ladies and Gentlemen but the film did not happen for some reason and we shelved it. Santoshi should return the signing amount we gave him.”
In fact, basis conversations Mirror has had with producers Santoshi has signed deals with, he owes them as much as More >
Animated Andaz Apna Apna will not have Aamir-Salman

At last the wheels of production will start rolling, with the stereoscopic animated version of Raj Kumar Santoshi’s enormous chartbuster, Andaz Apna Apna being made this year. The central characters, Amar and Prem enacted by Aamir and Salman Khan, however will differ in the stereoscopic animated version. iRock, the company which will be producing the film, have been advised not to use the actor’s faces in the animated version to avoid any legal hassles in using the superstars faces in their film.
Sid Jain, CEO – iRock says, “There are limitations to what I can do because they are such big stars. With the licensing, merchandising and other factors, it would invite legal trouble. We basically wanted unique identity for the characters, if you look at Woody from Toy Story, he does not look like Tom Hanks.”
The humorous animated version is being made in stereoscopic 3D which is currently in its production phase. Speaking about the style and the theme of the animated version, Sid says, “There is a certain exaggerated style that is there in all the characters. The animation would be more to the likes of The Simpsons or Bevis And Butthead style.”
The animated version of Andaz Apna Apna is slated to release in the summer of 2012.
