My weakness has become my strength-Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi talks about his journey from Footpath toShanghai and rise from formula to creative fulfilment

Anand Holla (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 10, 2012)

Days before Shanghai’s release, Emraan Hashmi had to cancel his tickets to the the IIFA awards at Singapore. The last thing this actor, at the cusp of stardom and art, was expecting to be held up by was a stomach flu. At his expansive Pali Hill residence, Emraan, in a checked shirt and flat-front khakis, lounges in the hall that’s flush with sunshine and breeze. “I must have eaten something nasty at Kanpur or Lucknow where I had gone to promote Shanghai. I really wanted to be with Dibakar Banerjee and my co-stars at a platform like IIFA,” he says.

Away from the arc lights, Emraan is the antithesis of his ‘filmi’ screen image. He has had a silent surge, first as a mass hero, then as a bankable star, and now an ‘A-lister’, who is starring in a Karan Johar film as well as a Vishal Bhardwaj venture. In most of his 25 films thus far, the majority of which have been super-hit potboilers, the 33-year-old has played grey, troubled characters that get away with swindling, killing, betraying people and, of course, kissing girls and getting luckier than that too. From Footpath, Murder, Gangster, Awarapan, Jannat, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai to his disarmingly sincere performance as Jogi Parmar in Shanghai, Emi (pronounced Immy) has coursed the long mile. The only thing that has remained unchanged in his career is the signature More >

Ameesha doesnt invite parents for production house launch

0

Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; April 26, 2011)

Ameesha Patel launched her production house amidst nuch fanfare on Saturday night. She invited the who’s who of the film industry to the bash at a surburban lounge bar, but her parents Amit and Asha Patel did not make it to the guestlist. The actress has always shared a love-hate relationship with her parents, but she sorted out her differences with them last year, and all was well. Or so everyone believed. Until the actress snubbed them.

Says an insider close to the Patels, “They were very hurt that Ameesha did not even invite them to come and share her happiness. A parent can only be happy for a child. How can she leave her parents out when she invited people she’s barely known for a year or two? Amit and Asha are putting up a brave front, but they are deeply disturbed that their daughter chose to humiliate them in this manner.”

When contacted Ameesha’s mom tried to dodge the query, “I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to say anything. Please don’t call me in the future for anything.” When told that we’d be writing about their exclusion on the guest list, she said, “I don’t care.” And hung up.

Ameesha told BT, “I do not want to talk about this please.”

Now Amisha Patel turns producer?

That seems to be the mantra for most Bollywood ladies, Amisha Patel being the latest in the list. She is holding a bash to announce the same this weekend

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 20, 2011) Amisha Patel turns producer after having tried her luck as an actress

If you can’t make it big in films, or find a man to settle down with, turn to production. That has been the mantra for most Bollywood ladies lately.

Sushmita Sen was the first to venture this way. Although her dream production, a film on Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai couldn’t take off from the planning stage, she paved the way for others.

The latest addition to the list, however, is the Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai girl Amisha Patel.

The actress has planned a big bash over the weekend for her friends and relatives wherein she will announce the launch of her production house, Amisha Patel Productions.

She, of course will not be doing this alone. Her friend Kunal who has been keeping her company at many social events including Shilpa Shetty’s bash, Imran Khan’s wedding reception and the New Year celebrations in Dubai, will be the partner.

According to the industry buss, the much-married businessman was all set t produce a film with Amisha in the lead. However, now, they have decided to open their own production house instead.

A source very close to Amisha told Mumbai Mirror, “Kunal’s wife Shaalu is also very close to Amisha. The three of them often hangout together.”

Not marrying, not seeing anyone-Kangna Ranaut

The actress says she is happy to be single at the moment and enjoying her ‘psycho’ tag, since everything seems to have worked out for her

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 14, 2011)

So what?” seems to be Kangna Ranaut’s attitude towards every single controversy surrounding her. And there are many. However, with the latest rumours of her and Hollywood actor Gerard Butler getting a bit out of hand, the pretty girl from Himachal wants to clear the air.

Putting the past behind her, this time around, the actress wants to make sure that her every single relationship friends, enemies or otherwise, remains just that.

You’ve been in a couple of relationships before. So what happened now?

Manav Manglani

My experience with relationships hasn’t been great. Any girl in my place would have been careful after that. Besides, it’s just been 2-3 years that I have been single. And that’s not a very long time, is it? I am taking my time.

You’ve also stayed away from your exes. Have those wounds not healed yet?

I haven’t deliberately stayed away from them. If you have loved somebody it may not work out sometimes, but love stays. If I come across them, I always go up to say ‘Hi’.

I just want to be sure this time. But yes, it’s high time that I start dating and I soon shall. There are a couple of proposals

Now Sanju walks out of Power?

Sanjay walks out on Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power due to scheduling delays

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 05, 2011)

Rajkumar Santoshi, director of Power seems to be losing all his ammunition, one actor at a time. It all began with Ajay Devgn, who walked out on the film because Power cast one too many powerful heroes.

Our source tells us, “It was Ajay who first chose to walk out of the film, as he was not keen on doing a film, which cast many heroes.

As a result of him walking out on the film, the schedule went for a toss. After a lot of persuasion, Ajay decided that he would do the film again.

However, this affected the schedule of the film again causing a delay of over four months.”

Tired of playing the waiting game, Sanjay Dutt now has decided to bow out of the film. Our source adds, “It now seems that Sanjay Dutt has also walked out of it.

Dutt was tired of waiting for the film dates to be accommodated, since it is a multi-starrer with Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Amisha Patel apart from himself.

Dutt’s schedule is also very tight because he is busy with Rascals, the remake of Agneepath and the remake of Satte Pe Satta.

The film is again in jeopardy and with one more actor to be finalized, it seems like a uphill task for Rajkumar Santoshi and producer Firoz Nadiadwala to get the film back on track.”

When questioned about Dutt’s exit, Santoshi tells us, “He has not told me or Firozbhai anything of this sort. Sanju is a friend and I More >

Mumbai Mirror pins the actress down with seven prickly questions

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 25, 2011)

Charge 1:

Films in which you haven’t played an edgy character, haven’t clicked.

It would be wrong to say that. Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai did well. But yes, that was more of Ajay Devgn’s film.

But how long could I go on playing those whacko characters? I kept getting similar roles but yearned to play other characters and I reached a pint of desperation.

I used to cry and wonder why I was not being offered roles, which could do justice to my talent. I could see that those roles were going to girls who had boyfriends and contacts at the right places. I couldn’t make friends.

I was lonely. Nobody was even recommending me. Instead of unwinding, I would often be researching drug-addicts or schizophrenics.

Thankfully, times have changed. Today I am in very happy space. I am playing a flirtatious girl in Rascals and Sanjay Dutt’s secretary in Dhamaal 2.

Charge 2…

You said nobody was recommending you. But today, Ajay Devgn does. (Interrupts) That’s not true. In fact now, Ajay and I are thinking of not doing films together for two-three years. We are taking a break from each other professionally.

That’s how Ajay also feels. We can’t make our on-screen chemistry repetitive.

Charge 3…

Its’ said that you use names of A-list actors to add to your brand equity.

What is it about Bunty Walia?

That all his girlfriends supposedly make good use of him and then dump him…

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 23, 2011)

After the Sanjay Dutt-Bipasha Basu starrer Lamhaa turned out to be a box-office turkey, producer Bunty Walia has suffered another blow.

Model-actress Debi Dutta, who was dating him for two years, has now left him. They parted ways three weeks ago.

Bunty Walia with Debi

Walia, the head honcho of G S Entertainment, was apparently quite in love with Debi, who was seen as a childhood friend of Ranbir Kapoor’s in Rocket Singh: Salesman of The Year.

Says a source, “Bunty and Debi were very happy. She had even moved in with him. They were very open about their relationship and would often pose for photographers at parties. But they started fighting three months ago and Debi walked out.”

But don’t take this as a typical ‘they grew apart’ kind of love story; it’s a more Bollywood one.

Grapevine has it that Debi was waiting for the day when Walia would launch her as a heroine in films. But Walia, they say, didn’t want to launch her in a project that he wasn’t really sure would benefit her.

But considering Lamhaa only ‘momentarily’ benefited its actors (if at all, because Kashmir is indeed beautiful), Debi soon started feeling her needs were not being met - unfortunately, the comforts Walia provided her with, including his personal car, did not qualify as needs.

We hear, Debi is now talking to other filmmakers for a role. When More >

I’m sexier than ever-Amisha Patel

Amisha Patel flaunts a perfect 10 figure

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; February 5, 2011)

Amisha Patel’s sensuousness was never in doubt, but like fine wine, she has become sexier now. BT bumped into Amisha, who enjoyed getting ready for a hot photo-shoot. And, boy she did get the temperature to soar. Effortless and relaxed, she made Dabboo Ratnani’s shutter go crazy about her charm, body and raw sensuality.

The pretty actress admits that she is in her best shape ever. “I’m sexier than ever right now and I can feel it. During Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (the 2008 film in which she wore a yellow bikini and seduced Saif Ali Khan underwater) I was in good shape. But I wanted to better the standard that I had already set on screen. I followed a healthy diet chart and worked out regularly. I didn’t kill myself exercising and I don’t believe in dieting. One has to eat right and healthy,” she says.

Just before she struck a pose in her ganjee and shorts, Amisha said, “It’s this sexy girl-next-door look that I have. I’m not in your face obvious. It’s a look that a friend of mine came up with especially for me when I went to a party wearing a pair of shorts and a tee.”

While many B-town divas have an international body type, which is the size-zero, Amisha says, “I don’t believe in size zero. I believe in having curves. A man’s body is different from a woman’s and women should have curves. That’s hot! A woman shouldn’t be thin as a stick More >

Shahid, Kareena interact warmy at Filmfare

After many years of bad vibes, former lovers Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor greeted each other warmly at the Filmfare Awards

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 01, 2011)

A few months ago, they could barely stand each other. But this is a sign that things have indeed changed. At the recently concluded Filmfare Awards, former lovers Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor spoke to each other rather fondly.

It should be noted that when the two met two years ago at an award function and almost bumped into one another, they had turned the other way to avoid any contact.

But the season it seems is shifting. With both, Kareena and Shahid settled in steady relationships, the former with Saif Ali Khan and the latter with Priyanka Chopra, it seems that they are ready to let what betided remain a thing of the past.

This is how it happened: when Kareena was walking out after her performance was over, on her way out she noticed Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid having a conversation. In another time, Kareena would have just brushed past (and then perhaps have explained why she did this to SRK, who is a good friend).

But not this time. She went up and said hi to both the parties. Shahid was pleasantly surprised. The conversation continued for a short while. When contacted, Saif picked up the phone and said, “Yes, Kareena did speak to Shahid at Filmfare. They met as one should.”

It should be noted that barely a few weeks ago, an excerpt from KJo’s Koffee with More >
