Ameesha Patel recently launched her maiden production ‘Desi Magic’. The actress-turned-producer essays a double role in the film which has Zayed Khan and model Sahil Shroff in the cast. She talks about the film and her character…

MID-DAY (April 11, 2013)

How does it feel being launched as an actress with Hrithik Roshan when he was 26 and today you are being paired with top model Sahil Shroff in your maiden home production who is also a youngster himself? All I can say is that Sahil is a great-looking guy with amazing talent. People will love our pairing. Our chemistry on screen will shock them.

How difficult is it playing a double role? It is a big challenge playing a double role specially when both the characters — Sonia and Mahie — are extremely opposite to each other and have no relationship in the film.

We hear you are playing a character with grey shades in the film? Not exactly with grey shades but I am playing someone who’s far faster in her ways of living life. You will see me play dirty like no one has ever played before and for that my look has to be hated by some and loved by all. At the end of the day when you are playing dirty you better look and act dirty.

What about your other character in the film where you will be playing a Punjabi girl? Yes, this is the first time I will actually be playing a girl born and brought up in Punjab with a big Punjabi family around. My character will be loved since it will attract all family audiences and will be adored by More >

After Race 2, the actress is looking forward to her next, Shortcut Romeo

MID-DAY (January 28, 2013)

Ameesha Patel is back to her happy successful zone. After getting an amazing applause from audiences for her role in Race 2, her focus is now on her next release — Shortcut Romeo. Excerpts from the interview:

Tell us something about your next film Shortcut Romeo? It is ready for release in April and I’m very happy with the way the film has shaped up. My character is totally different from the bubbly girl in Race 2. It’s a very hard and strong character.

People have loved your look and character Cherry in Race 2? Touchwood…. I couldn’t have asked for more. When Rameshji narrated me the script I loved my part and I knew no matter what the length will be I know I will stand out and people will love my character. I’m so grateful to all my fans for making me feel this way.

Your look is the talk of the town and your face is on hoardings all over. Yes… once again touchwood… I’ve been getting loads of compliments and I’m trying to do my best.

What has suddenly made Ameesha this sexy, hot girl? Kuunal Goomar, my business partner, has a vision about me and feels there has been much more to me then what I have shown people where my looks and talent is concerned. He now is working on my attitude and role in our home production as well where I will be playing a total bitch.

You have bounced back big time and with four releases in 2013 you must be feeling on cloud nine? Yes, it’s a great More >

Ameesha Patel Uncut: I’m too young for a comeback

Soumyadipta Banerjee (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 28, 2012)

The sun may be a tad too bright for Ameesha Patel, who prefers to hide behind her outlandish sunglasses these days, but the actress insists she has not been eclipsed by the likes of Deepika Padukone in her upcoming release, Race 2.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror from London, Ameesha laughed off reports that she has a blink-and-you-miss appearance in Race 2. These rumours have been fuelled by the promo released recently, that clearly shines the spotlight on Deepika and Jaqueline Fernandez. But Ameesha claims she is not perturbed. And that she is in London by choice, not because she feels “slighted.” “I am not upset at all,” she chirped, “I am in London on personal work and I will be back in Mumbai soon.”

Having said that, she does not challenge the fact that her role is way smaller than that of the other leading ladies. “It (the length of the role) doesn’t matter to me,” emphasises the actress who has been specializing in ‘special appearances’

“Look, I just did a guest appearance in the film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (released in 2008) and yet I got noticed so well. The quality of the role matters, not the length, “ she says, adding,“I have a pivotal rolein the film and the importance of my character is no less than the other lead characters,” she says.

Small but significant – does that sum up her great comeback gamble? Ameesha shoots back. “Who said I am aiming at a comeback with this film? The term ‘comeback’ only works More >

Did Katrina, Deepika fund Boom, Om Shanti Om?-Ameesha Patel

Ameesha Patel talks about the ‘special’ qualities she brings to a brand, Sanjay Dutt and equation with Kunal Goomer

Vickey Lalwani and Prachi Kadam (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 9, 2012)

Suddenly we see you in hoardings and newspaper advertisements all over. What sunglasses are these that you are promoting? An unexploited territory! (smiles) People have been foolish not to have me as a brand ambassador so far. Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and many others look amazing in what they are doing but there is also an Ameesha who has certain qualities, which she brings to a brand that others cannot.

Such as? People have often complimented me on my flawless skin and lovely hair. Glamstar had the guts to come to me. Perhaps they had seen me wearing different sunglasses and they look good on me. I knew they would go all out with the propaganda. (pauses)

Go on… You need to pump in a lot of money if you really want a brand to register. It wouldn’t have happened if I were the brand ambassador for a soap.

But where are these glares available? People hardly find them…only a shop in Bandra had a few pairs… Soon they would be available in malls and bigger stores. They will take time to break into every shop.

Some say that these sunglasses don’t exist… Itna paisa kisike paas nahin ki pagal jaise bahata jaye. Try to understand. There are few exclusive outlets right now. After gauging the response, the availability will be increased. Our target audience is school and college kids. Glamstar More >

Lucky to work with actors, directors who feel I am sexy-Ameesha

MID-DAY (August 30, 2012)

Of late, Ameesha Patel’s name has been dragged into several controversies. Though there are several speculations, the star rubbishes them all. Read on…

How is 2012 going for you? The year couldn’t have begun better then it did (touchwood) with so much of happening from Race 2 to Bhaiyyaji Superhit to Shortcut Romeo to endorsements to my own production house. I am also in talks for two other films. Things are looking positive and God willing next year, it will be even better and bigger.

How was it working with actors like Anil Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sunny Deol, John Abraham and Saif Ali Khan all in one year together? It’s been a pleasure knowing them all and working with such fine actors. Of course I’ve already worked with Saif and Sunny before. It’s been a pleasure to work with them again and be a part of some big films.

What about your personal relationship? How come we don’t hear any more about that? I’ve always been honest about them and spoken about them which I guess didn’t really go well for me. Now I’m just focussing on my career and my production house and enjoying life more then I have ever and in no mood for any serious relationships at all.

How come the sweet girl Ameesha has suddenly become a hot and sexy girl? The credit goes entirely to my business partner Kuunal Goomer who always feels that it’s the correct attitude that sells in Bollywood. Since I have the looks, talent and attitude then why not show it? (touchwood). Things More >

I don’t belong to any camp-Ameesha Patel

Stunning as ever, Ameesha speaks exclusively to zoOm about her friendship with the Dutts, Khans, and of course, ‘supposed’ friend, Kangna

Madhureeta Mukherjee (BOMBAY TIMES; August 19, 2011)

On her role reversal… • The industry went through a phase where a woman was nothing but a showpiece. It was all about ‘Hit-the-gym’, ‘Get-into-a-bikini’ and that became your role. I didn’t want to do those roles. So it was for my passion for cinema and the will to do something different, that I turned to production.

On Salman helping with her new venture (production house)… • Not at all. Salman and I are only social friends and he’s a well-wisher. But he didn’t motivate me to start my production house. That’s a rumour.

On casting Hrithik in her home-production… • If my directors feel that he even fits the role for a cameo, I’d love to approach him and cast him in my films. In the past, Hrithik and I have shared one of the best screen chemistry.

On industry camps… • I haven’t been smart enough to attach myself to camps. I’ve done films with everyone – Ajay, Salman, Sanjay and Hrithik. But I don’t really belong to any of their camps. Sure, they are friends, but I don’t see myself as the part of their camps.

On being the odd-one-out… • Well, I wish I’d more knowledge about the industry when I was a newcomer. I was ‘the outsider’, because I came from a political and business background. Hrithik, Abhishek, Kareena, Esha, Fardeen…all of them were industry kids. They had a head start.

Ameesha in Race sequel in a sexy avatar

Tushar Joshi (BOMBAY TIMES; August 11, 2011)

Ameesha Patel will be seen in her sexiest avatar yet in Ramesh Taurani’s Race 2, the sequel to 2008’s runaway hit. The film’s cast includes Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha and Anil Kapoor. The glam girl talks about her role in the sequel.

How does it feel to be part of a successful franchise like Race? It feels great. Race 2 is a big film to be associated with. This year has been amazing for me. I’ve turned producer and I’m back to working with Abbas-Mustan. I am also thrilled to be working with Saif Ali Khan after Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.

How did this role come to you? I have worked with Abbas-Mustan and Ramesh Taurani before. Since I have a great working relationship with the entire team, it was something I accepted in a heartbeat.

You are sharing screen space with Deepika and Sonakshi. Expecting any catfights? Not at all. We get along like a house on fire. I am very friendly with Sonakshi as I have met her at Salman Khan’s place a couple of times. Deepika is someone I am looking forward to working with. We will have a great time and it’s a superb star cast. I will be sharing most of my scenes with the girls, so there’s a lot of excitement.

Any apprehensions about wearing a bikini? Not at all. I trust Abbas-Mustan. This film is racier, sexier and steamier than the first. Even during Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, I was thrilled with the response I got for the Lazy Lamhe song.

Ameesha Patel says she will soon announce her second film and its director

Nimisha Tiwari (BOMBAY TIMES; May 13, 2011) One of the youngest and also the prettiest woman producer in the entertainment industry, actress Ameesha Patel’s playing her cards smartly and cautiously. She makes a strategic announcement of the first director onboard her new production house, Ameesha Patel Productions, with partner Kunal Goomer.

You’ve signed David Dhawan to direct for you. Why him? • David’s moved with the changing times and knows audience choices. His films are absolutely paisa vasool. He was the first director we approached and he just said yes. David’s the captain of our ship and we are happy to be his sailors. I have full confidence in him and this dates back to the year 2002 when he cast me in Yeh Hai Jalwa opposite Salman Khan. We share a great bond, he’s a friend too. And no, we haven’t approached Imtiaz Ali, Kunal Kohli or Dharmesh Darshan as reported. Soon, we will also announce the second director with us.

What made you take the plunge? • It was my friend and partner Kunal Goomer who convinced me to take this plunge. I am an investment banker by qualification. Many people ask me why I never did anything with finance instead of acting. Today, I would want to reply that now with the production house, I am pursuing both my passions — acting and investments. I am so excited about this entrepreneurial venture.
