Check out Saif-Kareena’s Daawat-E-Walima at Delhi
1Prachi Kadam (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 20, 2012)
Tuesday, October 16, may have been Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s big day when the couple officially became man and wife. However, their wedding reception in Mumbai, attended mainly by film personalities may pale in comparison to Delhi’s Daawat-e-Walima held on Thursday, October 18. It was quite a ‘wine and cheese’ affair graced by bigwigs from all walks of life including heavyweight politicians, diplomats, industrialists, fashion gurus, actors, musicians, sportspersons, et al.
The do began at around 8pm at a spacious bungalow at Aurangzeb Road. Kareena looked radiant in a pink lehenga while Saif looked dashing in a black bandhgala. PM Dr Manmohan Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur; Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh and Renuka Chaudhry; Union ministers Farooq Abdullah, Rajiv Shukla and Jyotiraditya Scindia; Arun Jaitley and Sheila Dixit dropped by to wish the newly weds. Also spotted were Shashi Tharoor, Amar Singh, Subroto Roy, Kapil Dev, Ajay Jadeja, Bishen Singh Bedi, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Madhur Bhandarkar and Imtiaz Ali among others.

Amar Singh attends English Vinglish screening
0Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 3, 2012)
He had attended several filmi parties. He even acted in Dev Anand’s Chargesheet albeit in a special cameo. But ever since his fallout with the Bachchan family (and especially Jaya Bachchan), Amar Singh had maintained his distance from Bollywood. But the politico seems to have decided to bridge the gap now, after a year. Mirror spotted him at PVR cinemas in New Delhi watching Sridevi’s comeback venture English Vinglish along with the lead actress and co-producer R Balki.
Apparently, on Monday evening, Singh requested the producers Eros Entertainment and his friend Boney Kapoor for a screening of Sridevi’s film. To this, the producers gladly obliged.
According to an eyewitness at the theatre, Singh was spotted having a great time watching the film. “He couldn’t stop congratulating Sridevi,” the eyewitness added.
Incidentally, Congress cabinet minister Salman Khurshid was also present for the screening.
Ash finds her Cannes purpose
0This time around, she will not just walk down the red carpet but also announce her next big film Heroine
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 09, 2011)
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been the only constant from India to the Cannes film festival year after year.
Though Bollywood, being the largest film churning industry across the globe has no official entries yet to the prestigious ceremony, we knew all too well that Mrs junior B will however, be a part of the same.
However, it now seems, that the cosmetic brand Ash endorses will not be the only reason for her to walk the red carpet this year.
While a lot of actors, thanks to hyperactive PR mechanisms, will be there to grace the event in designer enhanced regalia, Ash will announce her next big venture, National Award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine.
Ash who will essay the rise and fall of a superstar in Bhandarkar’s film will fly out to Cannes on May 10. UTV’s head honcho Ronnie Screwvala will join her a day later.
Bhandarkar however is flying out tonight for the prestigious event. Heroine will be announced at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday the thirteenth.
Kareena Kapoor who was the first choice for the role to be now essayed by Ash had some serious reservations about the steamy scenes in the script of this hard hitting film. Later, Bahndarkar reworked the script. “Well yes, the edgy scenes have been modified to suit Aishwarya’s personality. The script has not been changed, though,” More >
Sridevi in Balki’s next?
0Move over Madhuri, the Hawa Hawai queen Sridevi will soon be seen in a brand new avatar in R Balki’s next
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 24, 2011)
The lead actress of Judaai (1997) could not stay separated from Bollywood for too long; Sridevi had to make a comeback. But contrary to expectations, her husband Boney Kapoor will not relaunch her.
History has it that three years ago, Boney had not let her work in a Yash Chopra film opposite Amitabh Bachchan, arguing that he wanted her to make a grand return in a home-production. Boney told Yash Chopra that he was keen to re-launch his wife in his own production and requested him to cast someone else in his.
At this point, Bachchan’s good friend Amar Singh stepped in to convince Boney to let her do the film, but in vain, (Mumbai Mirror, July 28, 2008).
It turns out Sridevi’s comeback film will be produced by R Balki (of Paa fame) and directed by Balki’s wife Gauri Shinde.
Sridevi plays a woman who does not understand English but gets married to a very upwardly mobile man.
The story revolves around the repercussions of this marriage and the way in which she overcomes the issues. A source says, “Balki and Gauri have worked very hard on this subject for the past few months and are now ready to roll.”
Rumour has it that Sridevi’s comeback was supposed to be announced at Yash Raj Studios during a Kareena Kapoor-Sridevi interaction at a recent TV-film awards ceremony.

Sanjay Dutt to play himself in Amar Singh’s Dhokha
0By Subhash K. Jha, December 7, 2010 – 11:02 IST
“Has Nitish Kumar become the CM of Bihar again? I’m so happy!” the disoriented Bhojpuri star Manoj Tiwari asked, as soon he came out of the Bigg Boss house on Friday.
Politics and Tiwari are now inextricably linked. Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh will be played by Manoj Tiwari in a film entitled Dhokha based on Amar Singh’s experiences in and disillusionment with politics.
Slipping out this revelation on Friday afternoon when he was evicted from the Bigg Boss‘ house, the Bhojpuri star says, “Yes, I am playing Amar Singh. My character will have many of Amar Singhji’s real-life incidents in the film. Of course, it will be done in a cinematic way. But, no doubt, it is Amar Singhji’s life we will be portraying. Amar Singhji has finalized a very big Bollywood heroine to star opposite me.”
Apparently, Jaya Prada is the ‘very big star’ who play Amar Singh’s wife opposite Tiwari.
Further still, Sanjay Dutt, a close ally of Amar Singh, will also star in Dhokha as himself.
Says Manoj Tiwari, “Sanju Baba will play Sanju Baba. Amar Singhji has already got Sanjay Dutt’s role in place. We’re also finalizing his other friends from Bollywood for the other characters.
Tiwari says his 63 days inside Bigg Boss‘ house was a bhayaanak sapna. “It was as if life had stopped still. Most contestants were strugglers except, Khali and maybe Shweta Tiwari. There were no nice people inside there with me, except Khali and Seema More >
Mrs Dutt is on a roll
0From a small-time actress not so long ago, to the owner of a Rolls Royce, there’s more to Manyata Dutt’s evolution to a lady of the manor than what the eye can see
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 05, 2010)
When Sanjay Dutt gifted his wife Manyata a Rolls Royce earlier this week, all the world was there to hoot for the couple.
Manyata, visibly a new mom of twins, her white and yellow dress stretched over her post-pregnancy belly made a striking picture - the picture of a woman caught in the middle of transformation.
Gone was the shapeless salwar kameez and in its place a cool dress, appropriate shoes, bag and sun glasses. The hair - loose and wavy - continues to hark back in time, although it will be just a while until the lady seeks out a suitable hairdresser.
Manyata Dutt is evolving, even as she has affected much change in her husband Sanjay Dutt’s life. There is reason why much noise was made about Mrs Dutt’s new gift. “Manyata publicity ke liye kuch bhi karegi,” says an insider. “It was her idea that the media be called and that Sanjay should speak about the new swanky car.
So Sanjay cooked up a tale that the car was a post-delivery gift to Manyata.” Fact is, the actor has been dying to buy a Rolls Royce for the last eight years. He is very fond of fast cars. He is known to have gone into depression when Vidhu Vinod Chopra gifted a Phantom to Amitabh Bachchan, after the release of Eklavya.

YRF to launch Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun
0Once having parted ways over the topic of Sridevi’s comeback into Bollywood, Yash Chopra and Boney Kapoor have apparently now patched up
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 08, 2010)
Earlier, reports claimed that Boney Kapoor was planning to launch Arjun Kapoor (his son with his first wife, Mona), in Mr India 2. But now, instead of making his debut with his father, Arjun will make it with Yash Raj Films. Read on to know what transpired.
In 2008, Boney Kapoor and Yash Chopra had a disagreement. Boney did not allow his wife Sridevi to make a comeback in Yash Chopra’s film that was to cast her with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles.
Boney told Yash Chopra that he was keen to re-launch his wife in his own production and requested him to cast someone else in his. At this point, Bachchan’s good friend Amar Singh tried to convince Boney but in vain, (Mumbai Mirror, July 28, 2008).
But that was two years ago. Says a source from the industry, “Arjun’s launch in a YRF film instead of a Boney Kapoor one, is a safer and better bet any day. Besides, any Bollywood parent would want the best platform for his child.”
So are bygones really bygones between Boney and Yash Chopra? The source adds, “Boney and Yash are both very experienced filmmakers. They don’t have any animosity for one another.”
Now that all’s well, Boney too is apparently quite happy that a top production house is launching his son. An official announcement is expected More >
Dare anyone put a terror charge on Rajinikanth?-Sanjay Dutt
0…because fans and the Tamil film fraternity will come out in his support — a bonding which, Sanjay Dutt says, Bollywood has lost. Sanjay gets into straight-talk mode with Anshul Chaturvedi, and doesn’t mince his words
Anshul Chaturvedi (BOMBAY TIMES; October 13, 2010)
Two hours daily in the gym; driving at 250 kmph on the Expressway; excited to-be dad; still as jittery, in your own words, as a newcomer when a release approaches — in this case, “Knock Out”. So how’s 51 different from what 28 may have been?
Actually, nothing much has changed…. I do drive the car myself. I’m looking forward to the twins. I do get nervous; I remember how I was before Lamhaa’s release — a little jittery. And it’s not deliberate — this is just how I am.
And you’re fitter at 51 than you were at 21?
I think so. And in fact, my current focus on gymming is also because, if you notice, in Blue and Kidnap, I’d let myself go a little. Case sar pe thaa, the judgment was about to come out and to bring focus to cinema was difficult for me at that stage. Fitness was hardly a priority.
It was such a big accusation. Being part of a terror activity? My God! When the judge said that you always wanted to hear this, that your dad always wanted to hear this, you are acquitted from the terror charge — that moment was the greatest moment of relief in my life. I had let myself go around that time, and I got a lot of mail, a lot of fan reactions, saying, ‘you started More >
Maanyata Dutt to gift-wrap herself
0She will be surprising hubby Sanjay Dutt by flying to South Africa to be by his side on his birthday, July 29
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 27, 2010)
Sanjay Dutt’s spouse Maanyata, who just celebrated her own birthday, can’t stay away from her husband on his 51st birthday on July 29. Inspite of doctors warning her not to travel in her delicate condition (she’s expecting twin babies in January 2011) she has resolved to be by her husband’s side on this important day in his life.
The matter of her travel to South Africa is being kept away from Sanjay Dutt for two reasons. One, she wants to give her husband a birthday surprise (yep, can’t help but spoil the surprise). Two, because she may not be allowed to travel by the concerned husband and papa-to-be if he gets to know her plans for his birthday.
Come what may Maanyata is all set to travel down on July 29th. Says a source close to the couple, “Her heart is set on it. You see, last year, when Sanju turned 50, the couple could not celebrate his birthday because Sanju’s mentor Amar Singh had fallen seriously ill. Emotional man that he is, Sanju cancelled all celebrations. This year he took off for South Africa with his buddies to watch the World Cup and to do a recce for Rascals.”
Earlier she had decided to desist from traveling due to her delicate condition but now Maanyata has taken all precautions. She has been assured by doctors it is safe to travel. Now all she needs to decide on More >
