The Censor Board’s guidelines for gaalis in movies
0Bharati Dubey (BOMBAY TIMES; May 20, 2013)
A gangster film, needless to say, cannot be watched with one’s family. Simply because you cannot imagine it without cuss words being uttered extensively. Take Shootout At Wadala (SAW), for instance. The film had to be content with an ‘A’’certificate from the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) because the makers preferred to retain most of the gaalis.
In SAW’s case, one scene with cuss words against women was directed to be deleted: the one in which Siddhant Kapoor talks about which gaali should be the national gaali of India.
Writer Milap Zaveri defends the language of the film and says that the Censor Board did cut dialogues. He said, “It’s a film about gangsters, so just like we have been authentic with sets, look, costumes, I strived to be as authentic as possible with the dialogues. The gangster on the street of any era used abusive words and cusses. So in a film depicting the same, such language is needed.”
Thereby hangs the tale of the new cuss classification in Bollywood. One cuss word in a film gets a ‘U’, but the more colourful ones (and their repeated use in the film, thereof) are asking for an ‘A’.
A source from the CBFC said, “Cuss words are now getting classified rather than deleted or muted in movies. A kind of unsaid rule seems to be followed: to put a particular gaali in a specific category of film certification.”
At times, female Board members have to be educated by their male counterparts about More >
Faruk, Rukhsar on their stage debut
0Deepali S Dhingra (BOMBAY TIMES; April 30, 2011)
“Rukhsar’s surprising me even after five years!” laughs film director Faruk Kabir. And the surprise stems from the director-actor’s observation of his wife during the rehearsals for their play. The real-life couple are making their stage debut with Falsafa and Faruk says Rukhsar, who’s a film actress, was a revelation for him. “I’ve worked with her in my film Allah Ke Banday but that was a very small role. On stage, I realised she has so much voice-modulation,” he says. But the comfort level while acting together was something they acquired after a few rehearsals. “Initially, we would burst into laughter every time we said our dialogues, but with time, we got the hang of it,” adds Rukhsar.
Talking about making her debut on stage, the actress continues, “I wanted to do stage since long, but was just waiting for like-minded people to work with. When director Pawan Uttam approached me, I realised this is a team I am comfortable with. My character is beautifully etched in the story.” The play, that also stars Sumeet Vyas, Abir Abrar, Imran Rasheed, BM Vyas and others, is a love story as well as a satire on society. “Initially, only Rukhsar was approached, but then they thought it would be interesting to include me in the play,” he says. Faruk adds that he would be involved in the writing process of future plays as well. “I’m writing a comic screenplay for a film, which I intend to show first as a play, in More >
No more Welcome To The Jungle for Hrithik, Zayed
0By Joginder Tuteja, April 20, 2011 – 12:37 IST
Hrithik Roshan starrer Welcome To The Jungle has been shelved. Announced close to a couple of years back, the film was supposed to feature Hrithik in the role of a wildlife explorer. However the film is now no more happening and the reason cited for that is change in market dynamics over a period of time which has impacted the feasibility of bringing it on floors.
“The film was special as it was a family reunion of sorts for Hrithik as well as Zayed Khan and Sanjay Khan (as the producer)”, informs a source attached to the film, “Even though Hrithik hadn’t signed on the dotted line, his personal relationship with Khans meant that there was no doubt around him featuring in the film.”
In fact there was quite some noise made in 2009 around the film and Zayed was also supposed to act alongside Hrithik in this adventure tale. Also, Hrithik was taking personal interest in shaping his body differently for the film since due to its jungle setting; he was supposed to be seen mainly in shorts instead of designer clothes.
However, as things stand today, everyone connected with the project has moved on and picked up different assignments. Faruk Kabir, who was supposed to direct the film, made his debut with critically acclaimed Allah Ke Banday last year and is already working on another script. On the other hand, Zayed and Sanjay are working on an altogether different sports based subject. As for Hrithik, he is busy with More >

Faruk Kabir, Rukhsar to host grand wedding reception
0By Subhash K. Jha, February 8, 2011 – 15:08 IST
They married secretly a year ago. Now exactly a year later, filmmaker Faruk Kabir and his actress-wife Rukhsar are under fire for having kept family and friends in the dark about their marriage. Buckling under the pressure of outrage, the two have decided to host a belated reception for all their friends and family.
Says Faruk, “Only my sister and mother and her two close friends were present at the Nikaah. Rukhsar lost her beloved grandmother and then her mother before the marriage. And her father can’t travel. So she had no real family at the wedding. I think we owe it to our close relatives friends and colleagues in the film industry to have them share in our moment of joy.”
Faruk Kabir says he decided to reveal his secret marriage with actress Rukhsar on an impulse.
Says the director of Allah Ke Banday, “We got married on 23 March 2010 at a wedding that was only attended by my parents and sister. We didn’t even invite any of our closest friends. She had some issues to resolve and we thought it would be best to wait. I was also embroiled in delays and financial crises while shooting Allah Ke Banday. She has been a part of my life for six years now. So everyone in the family knew about her existence in my life. We decided to make it public on an impulse. I just spoke about it on Facebook and it caught on.”
Faruk’s greatest joy and relief is the fact that his mother and wife get along like a house on More >
Revealed: Faruk already married to Rukhsar
0Faruk Kabir’s statements of being a bachelor are false; he has been married for over a year to actress Rukhsar
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 04, 2011)
The secret is out. Faruk Kabir of Allah Ke Banday fame, claimed to be a bachelor, is actually a married man.
In fact, Faruk confessed to this yesterday on one of his social network accounts. The filmmaker has been married to actress Rukhsar, who was earlier linked with Ram Gopal Varma.
Rukhsar is a divorcee and she made her silver screen debut with Yaad Rakhegi Duniya (1992) and, Inteha Pyaar Ki later that year.
After that, it took as many as 13 years for her to make a comeback with D (2005), an RGV production, in which she starred opposite Randeep Hooda. Later, she made an appearace in RGV’s Sarkar.
Rukhsar with her husband Farukh KabirFaruk and Rukhsar were in a relationship for six long years before they tied the knot last year, but Faruk never mentioned her to others, not even his close friends.
When contacted, Rukhsar said, “Faruk and I fell in love in 2005. We first met in Mumbai on March 23.” At this point, Faruk said, “We married too on March 23 (2010). To tell you the truth, it wasn’t love at first sight. Pehle hum dost thhe, baad mein pyaar hua.”
When asked about her previous marriage, Rukhsar said, “I live only in the present. Yes, I am married to Faruk and now only he matters to me. We are very happy with each other.”

Vijay, Tridev actress to return to Mumbai
13After her husband Rajiv Rai’s near fatal encounter with the underworld, Bakhtawar Murad Khan (Sonam) fell off the Bollywood map. Come January she will return home to the city of dreams
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 22, 2010)
The poise, with which she carried off a sexy two-piece as early as 1988 in Yash Chopra’s Vijay, was Bakhtawar Murad Khan, aka Sonam’s trademark.
Even in the song Oye Oye from Tridev (1989), it is evident in her gait. And sure enough, post Tridev, Sonam shot up to fame with several hits with Gulshan Rai and his son Rajiv Rai.
She went on to marry Rajiv Rai in 1991 but then her life took a turn for the worse. She left India soon after her husband was almost killed by the underworld and was never heard of. In fact, while Rajiv Rai was in and out of Mumbai making films in exile everyone wondered where she had disappeared. But it turns out Sonam will return to India in 2011.
A close friend of Sonam’s reveals that her marriage with Rajiv was seriously troubled and that their only son Gaurav had kept the couple together. But now, the buzz is that Sonam wants to renew her career in the entertainment industry. Given her lineage, that shouldn’t be tough.
Sonam’s grandfather was the great character-actor Murad; her uncle is Raza Murad. Faruk Kabir (the director of Allah ke Banday) and Sanober Kabir are her cousins. Confirming her return, Faruk says, “Yes, Sonam is coming to Mumbai in January.”
