Housefull producer gets legal notice from Prakash Mehra’s son

In Housefull, Sajid Nadiadwala has shot an Amitabh Bachchan song from Laawaris on Akshay Kumar — Prakash Mehra’s son has sent him a legal notice By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 02, 2010)

Prakash Mehra Productions has sent a legal notice to Sajid Nadiadwala, T Series and HMV for using the Aapni to jaise taise song from Laawaris in their film Housefull. The song has already been picturised and currently the promos are being aired.

Punit Mehra, the son of late Prakash Mehra, said, “Since the case is in court, I would not like to comment.” However, Ramesh Ningoo, the chief accountant of Prakash Mehra Productions said, “We have sent a legal notice but we are yet to get a reply from them. The lyrics were written by Prakashji himself.”

On his part Sajid Nadiadwala countered, “We received the legal notice on Wednesday. T Series and HMV are addressing the problem. We have grown up watching films of Prakash Mehra and listening to the music of Kalyanji-Anandji. At the end of the day, ours is a small fraternity. Everything should be resolved amicably.

Prakashji was once associated with our company and so were Kalyanjibhai and Anandjibhai.

We have a contract with HMV and if we had been aware that the rights were with Prakash Mehra Productions, we would definitely have  got in touch with them.

I am embarrassed to be in this situation.”

Sonam to do a Sania Mirza

Sonam Kapoor plays tennis star Sania Mirza in the romantic comedy, Thank You By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 31, 2010)

Tennis champ Sania Mirza is not only in the news for her impending marriage but also for a film based on her life. Sonam Kapoor will play a character strikingly similar to Sania in Anees Bazmee’s rom-com Thank You. The film’s shooting starts mid-April in Canada.

Just like Sania, Sonam plays a young, attractive tennis champ and falls in love with a guy, who is completely wrong for her. She soon realises her mistake and turns back before it’s too late. Remember Sania calling off her engagement to Sohrab Mirza earlier this year before news of her impending marriage to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik started doing the rounds?

Director Anees Bazmee confirms the news and says, “Sonam does pay a tennis champ, and Akshay Kumar plays a guy who’s seeing 30-35 girls at the same time, until he meets Sonam. Though he gives up flirting, he’s not particularly serious about Sonam too. It’s a funny take on courtship.” Sonam will be trained by a tennis coach in Canada for her role. “Sonam plays a state-level tennis champ in Canada so she cannot afford to look amateurish while playing the game in my film. I don’t expect her to become a tennis champ in a week but she should look like a professional,” adds the director.

When asked about the similarities between Sania Mirza and Sonam’s role Anees Bazmee says, “I wouldn’t like to take More >

It just wasn’t Katrina Kaif’s day. First she injured her head and then Akshay Kumar mercilessly pulled her leg By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 29, 2010)

Katrina Kaif’s health problems just don’t seem to end. After several health scares, including a recent one when she fainted on the sets of Tees Maar Khan, on Friday evening Katrina was injured on the film’s sets when Akshay Kumar’s jaw accidently hit her head while shooting a dance sequence at Malshej Ghat.

A source said, “It was a ballet-like dance sequence and Katrina’s head bumped into Akshay’s jaws and his teeth hurt her head badly. Katrina immediately realised the gravity of the injury as director Farah Khan rushed towards her. Since it was a head injury, Katrina felt dizzy for a few minutes but immediate care was taken to make her feel better. When Akshay saw that Katrina’s head was bleeding due to the impact, he told her that she will have to take at least four stitches. The very thought that she would need stitches made Katrina all the more scared and she almost started crying when Farah stepped in and told Akshay to not scare her anymore. A doctor was called to the sets to have a look at Katrina’s injury before she left for the day. Akshay couldn’t help but joke that though he is an action hero, it is Katrina who keeps getting injured. First she fainted on the sets, and now this injury.”

Farah Khan remained unavailable for comment as she was shooting in a no network zone in More >

Katrina Kaif can’t wait to let loose as an item girl for Tees Maar Khan; has personally shopped for accessories to get the right look

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 27, 2010)

Katrina Kaif has never been known to raise her voice, let alone act aggressive, in public. But the actress is set to change that and more for Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan, in which she plays an item girl.

Suddenly, Katrina’s manner and speech have become loud and demonstrative even early in the morning at Malshej Ghat, where the film is currently being shot. The schedule begins at 5am every morning and the actress is not letting up in her own effort to look different in each of the item songs, being choreographed by Farah and her assistant Gita.

In fact Katrina has even shopped for her character’s look, right from clothes to accessories in small shops that sell cheap stuff. Commenting on her shopping frenzy, Katrina says, “It is a challenge doing a complete look for my character. I guess I learnt that from Raajneeti. Every accessory makes you feel more like the character.”

Katrina has also been catching up on the best item numbers in Bollywood, right from Mumtaz’s Tik tiki tik mera dil bole in Humjoli (1970) to Bipasha Basu’s Beedi jalaile in Omkara (2006), to get a more comprehensive understanding of the typical Bollywood item girl.

Akshay has been teaching Katrina the art of losing one’s inhibitions while dancing on camera. Katrina says, “I’ve always wanted to More >

Kainaat Arora does an item number in Khatta Meetha

0

Malaika Arora Khan holds her own sexy place in filmdom, but only recently Bollywood welcomed another sexy gal who found herself in Malaika’s shoes! While Malaika was being considered for the song Aila Re in Priyadarshan’s Khatta Meetha, it’s Kainaat Arora who finally bagged it. “Priyadarshan saw me and instantly asked me if I would do a song in his film. I was ecstatic, especially since the brief given to me was that it was a Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate kind of number and that look was to resemble that of Dimple Kapadia’s in Bobby. In this day and age, how many people get a chance to do something as innocent and beautiful as that?” asked Kainaat. The song was shot in the rustic locales of Baramati. “When I emerged from my van in my get-up, Akshay Kumar, who is Dimpleji’s son-in-law looked at me and smiled. I asked him what he was smiling at? He said, ‘You’re looking good!’. I said, ‘Yes I’m supposed to look like Dimpleji in her Bobby days. To that Akshay said, ‘No, you’re looking even better’,” narrated Kainaat. “Of course, he was joking, but that’s Akshay for you, an actor who’s constantly putting all his actresses at ease,” said the new Arora lass on the block!

Akshay’s leather jacket goes missing; shooting suspended

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 24, 2010)

It’s a song inspired by John Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever, but shooting for Divorce rap in Vipul Shah’s Action Replayy has been suspended for now. It was being picturised on Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but halfway through the filming of the song, Akshay’s special leather jacket went missing. Despite frantic efforts, it still hasn’t been located.

Now Vipul has no option but to wait for an exact replacement so that continuity is not affected.

Vipul told Mumbai Mirror, “It was a unique, hand-crafted, bling-bling leather jacket. I need to shoot the balance portions of the song but suddenly there’s no jacket. It will take time to get it made again, so I’ve requested Akshay to allot some extra dates to finish the song later.”

Vipul added that the manner in which the jacket disappeared has left him puzzled. “I need to figure this out. It might have been misplaced by some production person or it may have been stolen when it was being transported. But why point fingers? We’ll just have to take in our stride.”

Both Abhishek and Akshay are in the running for Bhag Milkha Bhag, but Rakeysh Mehra is in no hurry to decide By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 23, 2010)

// // // Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra is in a dilemma about whom to cast as Milkha Singh in Bhag Milkha Bhag. While the filmmaker wants Abhishek Bachchan to play the title role, Milkha Singh himself insists that Akshay Kumar would be the ideal choice.

“I strongly feel that my role should be played by Akshay Kumar. Being a Punjab da puttar, he has the right physique and also acts well,” Milkha says.

But a source says, “The fact is that Rakeysh Mehra doesn’t want to take a final call till he and Prasoon Joshi, who is the film’s story, screenplay and dialogue writer, have finalised the script.” When asked if he wants Abhishek to play the lead role, Rakeysh Mehra says, “It’s too early to speak about who will play the role. Nothing has been finalised yet.” Bhag Milkha Bhag is scheduled to go on the floors next year.

Top Bollywood actresses hike up their market prices every time they hiccup!

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; March 20, 2010)

The over-imaginative PR machinery of actresses uses one weapon at regular intervals. Every time they feel that they need to get their heroine’s stock up, they brainwash journalists into believing that X actress has been paid an X amount. So you’re sipping your cuppa one morning and you almost fall off your couch, when you read that Priyanka Chopra got paid Rs 6 crore for Pyaar Impossible, or Kangna Ranaut will be paid Rs 5 crore for a film with a minister’s son, and Kareena Kapoor got paid Rs 10 crore for Golmaal 3 (later brought down to Rs 7 crore), while Katrina Kaif is offered Rs 7 crore by Abbas-Mustan for The Italian Job. When this round of blitzkrieg is done, you’ll have a final rumour on how Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is actually still in demand, is being offered a sum that totals the price of the current lot of divas.

“Circulating rumours on prices is the easiest thing,” says trade consultant Amod Mehra. “The truth is often very far away from the actuality. And, the market right now is certainly not ready to pay the heroines the prices they or their kith often claim.” Mehra explains that the reason for this is simple logic. You don’t have to be Einstein to know that Bollywood heroines still don’t sell a film. Therefore, any producer who pays a heroine a price, has to pay a price for it! More >
