The first look promo of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly anticipated Hrithik-Aishwarya starrer Guzaarish was unveiled earlier this week. While the promo is quite splendid to say the least, the film does bear some resemblance to a 2004 Spanish film called The Sea Inside which is based on a true story of a sailor Ramdon Sampredo who becomes a quadriplegic following an accident. In Guzaarish, the buzz is that Hrithik, who plays a magician, ends up in a wheelchair because of an accident that happens when a magic trick goes wrong.
Bhansali’s earlier films such as Black was also inspired from The Miracle Worker while Saawariya was loosely based on a Russian short story ‘White Nights’.
While neither Bhansali nor his lead actors were in any mood to reveal even a bit about the story of Guzaarish at the launch event, going by the promos of the two films, there is no denying that there is some similarity between Guzaarish and The Sea Inside.

This has got to be the most rocking birthday party in living history. To say the ageless Shabana Azmi turned 60 with a bang on Saturday at the lounge Trilogy, would be an understatement.
Real- life Munni (Shabana’s pet name) rocked to the pounding sound of the new dance hit ‘Munni Badnaam‘.
Shabana chortled the next morning, “Everybody was very amused to see Jaya and I flaunt our ambiguous dancing skills. Ash couldn’t stop explaining that her ma-in-law was on a roll…My sister-in-law Tanvi and brother Baba wouldn’t leave the dance floor. He’s such a fabulous dancer, very heavily influenced by Shammi Kapoor. Zara socho, bhai itna achcha dancer aur bahen has two left feet! Everybody danced to songs from yesteryears and of course ‘Munni Badnaam‘ was a favourite.”
Shabana Azmi welcomed the biggest star turn-out at her birthday. Guests included the entire Bachchan parivar with family-friend Tina Ambani in tow. Tina’s sister-in-law Nita Ambani who generally avoids attending the same parties as Tina also attended. So did Naseeruddin Shah, Rekha, Parmeshwar Godrej, Anil Kapoor, Ayaan Mukerjee, Neeta Goyal, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sudhir Mishra, Zeenat Aman, Urmila Matondkar,Vidya Balan, Boman Irani, Sandhya Mridul, Vipul and Shefali Shah.
Quips Shabana, “Why are you only mentioning the glamorous brigade from Bollywood? My entire family was there. My acting professor Roshan Taneja, my classmates from the film institute Kanwaljeet, Zarina Wahab, Rita Bhaduri came to the party. All my activist friends were also there. I missed Shyam Benegal and Mahesh Bhatt who are out of the country.”
“People around her can hardly bear her for 60 years. How will they bear her that long?” said Javed Akhtar when someone sang ‘Tum Jiyo Hazaaron Saal‘ for his wife in the party.

Over the week gone by, there have been speculations galore around the latest movie being signed by Akshay Kumar. It is being whispered in the industry circles that the actor has signed a film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prabhu Deva would be calling the shots as a director. It was also being assumed that with Bhansali around, the film would have a period setting and due to Prabhu Deva’s inclination towards dance, the film would require some intense Indian classical dancing by Akshay Kumar.
We bring to you the real truth exclusively at Bollywood Hungama.
Yes, it is confirmed that Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prabhu Deva would be collaborating for a film. The film would be co-produced by Bhansali and Akshay while Prabhu Deva would be directing his second Hindi film after Wanted.
However, the speculation around this being a period dance drama is incorrect. The film is being set in the modern times and has a contemporary feel to it. Also, dance would form one of the many ingredients of this hardcore commercial masala flick which would go on floors early next year once Akshay Kumar wraps up the shoot of Desi Boyz [to be directed by Rohit Dhawan - son of David Dhawan].
Confirms a highly placed source connected to the film, “That’s right, this is going to be the most ambitious project ever by Bhansali. It was him who thought of bringing together Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva. He has been known for certain aesthetics of cinema and that would remain intact in this new venture as well. However, this time around the target audience would be a wider segment of masses. Bhansali wanted to expand his horizon and conceived a mega project like this.”
“For Akshay too, it is all set to be a new experience because he has established himself amidst the top league without working with filmmakers like Chopras, Johars and Bhansalis of the world. A project like this adds on a reputed filmmaker to his repertoire”, he adds, “Since Prabhu Deva too has shown his commercial bent with Wanted, his coming together with Akshay only makes this a killer combination in the making. One can well imagine the kind of hype that just this announcement is going to make.”
This yet untitled film doesn’t have a leading lady finalised yet. However, given the huge canvas that this film is expected to boast of, it is imperative that one of the top actresses would come on board. Would Bhansali be repeating Aishwarya Rai or Sonam? Or would Kareena, Katrina or Deepika make the cut?

The two came to a head when Sinha had insinuated that some award functions had become a family jagir
The indefatigable Shabana Azmi turned 60 on Saturday, with a bash in a Juhu lounge. Shabana raucously danced to the thrum of new item number ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ and Jaya Bachchan too joined in, with Ash clapping and cheering the loudest.
Other guests included the entire Bachchan parivar with family-friend Tina Ambani in tow. Tina’s sister-in-law, Nita Ambani, who generally avoids attending the same parties as Tina, also attended. So did Naseeruddin Shah, Rekha, Parmeshwar Godrej, Anil Kapoor, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sudhir Mishra, Zeenat Aman and Urmila Matondkar.
However, what was the talking point of the evening was the long and earnest discussion between Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha. The two of them have never been seen to fraternize so feelingly before. The Big B and Shotgun spent almost the entire evening together.
In 2008, Bachchan and Sinha came to a head when Sinha had allegedly insinuated that certain film awards had become partial to the Big B and his family. The Big B had lashed out at Sinha in his blog.
Says one of the invitees. “Normally when Mr Bachchan and Sinha saab meet they barely say a hello before quickly moving away. But at Shabana’s party on Saturday night they were together throughout, in a deep discussion.”
When asked what the deep discussion was all about Shatrughan Sinha said, “We were catching up on old times. We’ve never had any kind of personal problems between us. Whatever I’ve said about him in the past is strictly on a professional level. At Shabana’s party everyone was relaxed. I was feeling very happy that Amitabh had won the National Award for Paa. I went up to him and said he had honoured the award by receiving it. Every year the National Awards are controversial. Not this time. We spoke about a lot of things.”
All’s well that ends well, after all.
The most awaited Anjaana Anjaani and Aakrosh are postponed but Khichdi –The Movie and Rajnikant-Aishwarya starrer Robot to stay put
Sajid Nadiadwala has postponed the release date of his next film Anjaana Anjaani in spite of the release being slated this week. The move has been done keeping in mind the court’s decision over the sensitive Babri Masjid controversy.
Anjaana Anjaani will now release on October 1 and Aakrosh, initially scheduled for release on October 1, will now be exhibited on October 8. However, the release date of Khichdi–The Movie and Robot remained unchanged.
When contacted, Sajid said, “We had already sent our prints to overseas markets like Australia, America and the UK, but last morning we had a meeting and decided that the least we can do is to change the release date keeping the sentiments in mind. For us, releasing a film is a cause of celebration and we would definitely not like to celebrate on such a day and that’s why Anjaana Anjaani will release on October 1 now.”
Meanwhile, Kumar Mangat, the producer of Aakrosh, said, “Yes, we have postponed the release by one week. It is not a wise decision for two major films to clash on the same day and so we have decided to release the film on October 8.”
However, Vijay Singh of Fox Star Studios, the producers of Khichdi, said, “We are committed to releasing Khichdi on October 1. The tracking research that we are doing shows an extremely positive build-up of awareness and intention to see the film across our core family audiences. The response from the audiences who have seen the film is extremely positive.” They should consult Paul.

After the success of Dabangg, Salman regained his position of being the superstar. Everyone wants a piece of him and why not. South of India is all rage about Sallu bhai and he has new share of fans down there.
Even producer B.K Krishnan of BRK Films is eager to make a film on the life of Salman Khan. Featuring all his trials and tribulations, the media glare on him, the highs and low in his life and all that has led this star to reach the status he enjoys today.
The film, tentatively titled Anna Salman meaning ‘brother Salman’ is still hero lessclaims the producer who is busy finding the lead actor for his film. The film, apparently, will have similar incidents from the star’s life like the Bandra Bakery incident, Black Buck poaching incident etc. It will also have the hero having a torrid relationship with an upcoming star, which presumably refers to Aishwarya Rai and is going to be played by Ritu Sachdeva.
Here comes the interesting part, the producer claims that the film will be an out and out comic film where the hero finds himself in the wrong time at the wrong place leading to unwanted situations but still comes out triumphed and adored by his fans.
Wonder what Salman’s reaction to this would be?
Actress Shraddha Kapoor to be the face of Lakmé as LFW Winter/Festive 2010 begins today
TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; September 17, 2010)
If Sonakshi Sinha — Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha’s daughter — has become the new face of Bollywood with Dabangg, then get ready to welcome Shraddha Kapoor — Shakti and Shivangi Kapoor’s daughter — as the new face of beauty. The light-eyed actress who made her debut in Teen Patti opposite Amitabh Bachchan, will take the ramp for the first time at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 which is in its 11th year and kickstarts today. Shraddha will team up with celebrated models Indrani Das Gupta, Amrit Maghera, Vipasha Agarwal and Lisa Haydon as Lakmé’s beauty ambassador.
This season promises to be high on drama and glitz. Starting with a special GenNext five-year show and six shows daily over five days, featuring 32 female and eight male models, and with choreographers Marc Robinson, Lubna Adams and Anu Ahuja orchestrating the ramp, India’s leading designers including Manish Arora, Ritu Kumar, Manish Malhotra, Neeta Lulla and Malini Ramani among others are set to showcase their festive collections.
Lakmé in the past has chosen women like Rekha, Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu, Lisa Ray, Yana Gupta, Raima Sen and Katrina Kaif to define what Indian beauty stands for. Now Shraddha is excited and honoured to be associated with this ensemble of beautiful women. “They have been heralded as icons of Indian beauty. From my childhood, I have been fascinated with make-up and the art of dressing up and this is a dream come true,” she said.
Shraddha will be part of the brand’s advertising campaigns and will walk the ramp for grand finale designer Malini Ramani, who’ll present the Lakmé grand finale with her gypsy collection. N Rajaram, Vice-President, Lakmé, said, “Our faces have been women who were famous for their style, poise and most of all, for their Indian yet contemporary looks. Shraddha embodies all this. Her persona and beauty make her a great choice.”
For a night, they’ll play at a night club to bring back the funky ‘70s for Action Replayy
Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai are turning DJ for a night for Vipul Shah’s Action Replayy, which is set in the heady 1970s.
Akshay and Ash will be appearing at a nightclub in the same avatar-Akshay in long hair, printed shirts and high-waisted bell-bottoms with big buckle belts and Ash in tied tops, low-waisted polka dot skirts, big hoop earrings and platform shoes; both will be DJ-ing live and playing their favourite retro music at the promotional event.
After turning into a cook for the reality show Master Chef India, the desi version of Top Chef, Akshay Kumar is now learning DJ-ing. “Akshay, who is a big fan of retro music and has a CD of Boney M hits from the late 1970s in his car, will play retro music at the event.
He is also training with a local DJ and learning to scratch on turntables,” reveals the source close to Akshay.
Vipul Shah, who is upbeat about the event, confirms, “I’m expecting the magic of retro to come back. It’s the magic that Akshay will spin.
He will be playing his own list of favourite retro songs. Not only him, Aishwarya also will be playing a DJ that night. And both the stars will compete with each other. I think it’s going to be a spectacular night.”
The director-producer has no clue about the list of retro songs Akshay and Ash have selected for the night. “They haven’t informed me. Both of them are working on their list of songs. I am as curious and excited as the audience. It will be an electrifying night.”
