PVR Pictures Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey which stars Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, has collaborated with ACK Media to launch the second Amar Chitra Katha title, ‘Surjya Sen and The Chittagong Uprising’.
The story is about the unsung hero of India’s freedom movement; Surjya Sen. Publishers of the comic book have tied-up with the producers of the film to churn out the paper-back copies.
The comic strip will educate the younger generation about the 1930 uprising in a more entertaining fashion. The comic book is based on Arijit Dutta Chowdhary’s painstaking researched illustrations that bring to life the turbulent revolutionaries of the British ruled Bengal of the 1930′s.
Speaking on the tie-up with ACK Media, Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of the film, said, “The Indian freedom struggle was not a unified movement until near the end – for a long time, it was a disparate collection of separate little uprisings against the injustices of British rule. Many of these struggles are no longer remembered in our text-books. The Chittagong Uprising of 1930 is one of these forgotten struggles and I hope through my film and Amar Chitra Katha, Surjya Sen becomes a known freedom fighter across India like the others.”
“Surjya Sen himself comes through as this enigmatic person. What little we know of him comes from his colleagues. Most of them were so young at More >
Suppandi goes 3D
0By Nilanjana Nag (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 01, 2009)
If our favourite Tinkle character Suppandi were to don a Bollywood avatar, who do you think would fit the bill? Ranbir Kapoor, perhaps? Animation and VFX veteran Biju D, who is all set to direct a stereoscopic 3D animation on Suppandi, disagrees. “The work doesn’t end at finishing the voice-over for Suppandi,” Biju says. “The character would demand a lot more. Bollywood stars may not be able to give me that kind of time.”
The filmmaker wants to cast a theatre person to do the voice-over for Suppandi, someone who is lean and very energetic, like Suppandi’s character. Samir Patil, the CEO of ACK Media, the developers of 3D technology for this film, intends for it to appeal to adults too, the ones who grew up reading Tinkle. And how does the creator of Suppandi, Uncle Pai react to the venture? Samir says, “Uncle Pai has had a cataract operation recently and hence is unavailable. But being an innovator at heart, he is very excited about one of his favourite characters coming to life on the big screen.” The film is set for release in November 2010.
