Bollywood’s talking about this hot new jodi’s chemistry

Deepali S Dhingra | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; February 27, 2011) Bollywood watch out! The on-screen sparks between Jackky Bhagnani and Puja Gupta do seem too hot to handle in the promos of Vashu Bhagnani’s F.A.L.T.U. The shirtless boy and the sexy ex-Miss India are steaming it up onscreen and from what we gather, their off-screen chemistry too is terrific. The story goes that Jackky spotted Puja at a common friend’s party and asked her to audition for the part of his leading lady. The actor admits that she fits the bill perfectly. But, while Jackky refuses to take credit for her presence in his film, Puja gushes, “I’m in F.A.L.T.U because of him!” Wait, we also heard that the actress wasn’t too happy about the share of attention Jackky was getting as compared to her. “I would say it should be Jack (as she fondly calls him) who should be feeling jealous of me,” Puja laughs and adds, “I was the only girl on the sets and Vashuji was very partial towards me.” Looks like the gal doesn’t want to hear anything against her costar, which makes us wonder what’s cooking between the two!

“We’re just good friends,” Jackky says. “We enjoy each other’s company and often hang out together after work but that’s all.” Puja admits that people have already started linking them but as long as she and her family know the truth, the grapevine buzz doesn’t matter. “I’ve found my best friend in Jackky and I More >

Why poet Shahryar stopped writing lyrics after Gaman and Umrao Jaan

Mohammed Wajihuddin | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; February 27, 2011)

You’d expect a Jnanpith Award winner to hop cities and towns, delivering lectures, distributing gyaanand lapping up media attention. Yet, when noted Urdu poet Shahryar, who won the Jnanpith in 2008, visited the city this week, he remained largely confined to his son Faridoon’s flat. Barring an interaction with students at Ismail Yusuf College, Shahryar turned down invitations to be “honoured” by several poets-writers. “Ever since the award’s announcement in September, a lot of people want to felicitate me. But I am not comfortable with such functions,” he says, adding with a wry smile that his mobile phone bill came to a whopping Rs 12,000 for just two days after the award was announced. Reason: he was in Jeddah for a mushaira when the news broke and had to pay roaming charges.

If Shahryar didn’t realize the congratulatory incoming calls would create such a big hole in his pocket, it conforms to his gentle, almost naïve nature. Despite garnering immense popularity with the songs of his two initial films — Gaman (1978) and Umrao Jaan (1981)—the shayar vanished behind the wall of academics. Anyone else in his place would have exploited—and justifiably so—the success and parked himself in Bollywood. But Shahryar, the quintessential teacher and poet, went to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), his alma More >

Film Historian Writes To Heritage Panel To Save Bombay Talkies

Bharati Dubey | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; February 27, 2011)

While the state government and film industry are preparing for Bollywood’s centenary year in 2013, heritage lovers are fighting to keep one of the industry’s oldest relics afloat. Bombay Talkies, India’s first corporate studio, has largely turned into a dumping ground. The outermost façade still stands, but heritage lovers fear it will crumble if not preserved.

Film historian Amrit Gangar has now written to heritage committee chief Dinesh Afzalpurkar pleading for the 77-year-old structure to be saved. “It is such a crying shame that the remaining relics of the glorious Bombay Talkies studio have now been turned into a dumping ground for garbage and an open urinal,” Gangar told TOI. “The heritage place, which needs our respect and reverence, is openly stinking of our apathy, disregard and disrespect.’’

Bombay Talkies, located in Malad (W), produced path-breaking films like ‘Achyut Kanya’ and was considered the best studio in Asia when it operated from 1934 to 1954. “Mumbaikars should go to the place where the song ‘Main ban ki chidiya ban ban bolun’ was shot. They should feel proud, but I am sure they will only feel shamed by the stench,” Gangar said.

Today, the place is an industrial estate with most of the studio’s stages turned into industrial galas. The remains of the studio structure are a dumping ground, with More >

var iurl ='http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href='+document.location+'&show_faces=false'; document.getElementById('fblike').src=iurl; // ]]> The director of the 2007 hit Bheja Fry, Sagar Ballary, is livid with the way the producers Sahara Motion Pictures have marketed and released his latest film, Kaccha Limboo. Ballary now intends to take legal action against his producers for shoddy treatment of his film; he said that even his mother didn’t know about the release of his film and that it was released almost apologetically.

Sahara promised Ballary a 100 film prints and hoardings across the city, the director claimed that the posters were printed but weren’t sent out for distribution and that audio CDs weren’t sent on time as well. The legal advisors representing Ballary have already sent a legal notice to Sahara Motion Pictures.

Sagar said that he begged the producers to postpone the release of his film and wait until the summer holidays, but they claimed that they needed to release the film before the financial year ended on March 31.

Deepak Segal, who heads Sahara Motion Pictures however commented that Sagar is upset with them because his film didn’t connect with the audience.

Ballary has now cancelled his three-film deal with Sahara Motions Pictures.

var iurl ='http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href='+document.location+'&show_faces=false'; document.getElementById('fblike').src=iurl; // ]]> Housefull 2 will be shot in Chile and Argentina where no Hindi film has been shot before.

“Besides these virgin locales, we’re also shooting Housefull 2 in the UK, Phuket and Hong Kong,” informs Sajid.

It’s not just virgin locations that turn on Sajid Khan. It’s also virgin pairs.

“That’s why I’ve replaced all the girls. I’ve paired Asin for the first time with Akshay, John Abraham for the first time with Jacqueline Fernandez. We’re looking for a leading lady for Riteish Deshmukh,” informs Sajid Khan. Now that Riteish’s good friend and co-star Jacqueline has moved on to John on screen, one wonders whom Riteish will get paired with in Housefull 2!

Sajid is also excited about bringing the two brothers Randhir and Rishi Kapoor together. “I’m their huge fan. I had so much fun working with Dabooji in Housefull. And Chintuji is arguably the most natural entertainer we’ve ever had in our films. And guess what? I’m naming them ‘Daboo’ and ‘Chintu’ in the film as well.”

Sajid Khan is in principal against sequels. “I dropped plans of doing a sequel to my Heyy Babyy. But Housefull is a franchise. My producer Sajid Nadiadwala and I want to carry it forward. We’ve retained the name and the basic premise of a house crammed full with character chaos and comedy. Everything else

The action of the film has been designed on an extravagant level. For the very first sequence, the director plans to blow up 20 cars. When quizzed on this particular action sequence, Rohit said, “The scene is set in a parking lot, where a kidnapping takes place. It is a chase scene between Ajay and some gangsters for which we will require to blow up cars. In the shot, there will be about 200 cars out of which we will be blowing up 20 cars.”

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, March 1, 2011 – 16:53 IST

After directing blockbusters such as No Entry, Singh Is Kinng and Welcome, the ‘King of Comedy’ Anees Bazmee is back with his latest comic flick Thank You. The film deals with extra-marital affairs and has an ensemble cast comprising of Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitly and Rimi Sen.

One of the highlights of the film is the chartbusting track ‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo‘ which sees the four leading men namely Akki, Suneil, Bobby and Irrfan dancing with some really hot bikini babes. The song itself is a remix version of the yesteryears hit ‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo‘ from Feroz Khan’s Jaanbaaz.

The song is set in a night club and has the four actors flirting mischievously with some really sexy international dancers. To spice up the proceedings, the choreographer even came up with a step which sees the actors spanking the dancers on their buttocks.

While Akshay and Irrfan agreed to do the dance step, Bobby flatly refused to spank the dancers on their back side. Says a source from the sets of Thank You, “When Akshay, Irrfan and Bobby were shown the steps for the song, Bobby was very hesitant to do the step. Actually, Bobby is a family man, and refrains from doing any steamy or provocative steps. Even after a lot of coaxing Bobby refused to budge and reasoned out with director Anees Bazmee who finally had no option but to give in to Bobby’s request.” Finally the More >

Piracy shudders for Anubhav Sinha

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 02, 2011)

Five days ago while walking on Bandra roadside, RA.One director Anubhav Sinha was shaken by what he saw.

On one of the stalls he saw some music CDs being sold with the RA.One poster as the cover.

Anubhav bought the CD and rushed home to check it out. To his relief it turned out to be a compilation of English songs.

A source revealed, “Anubhav’s anxiety was justified since the music of RA.One has not yet been officially launched.”

Anubhav too confirmed the story. “I couldn’t wait till I reached home and checked the CDs. Thank God, it was English music inside.

When will all this natak on Mumbai’s pavements stop?” he said. True Anubhav, piracy is rampant on our streets. But it is also a measure of how many must be looking forward to RA.One. Right?

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 02, 2011)

It is celebration time at the Bajpayee household. Manoj Bajpayee and Shabana have become the proud parents of a baby girl.

The baby was born on February 23 in a private nursing home. The gleeful father, Manoj, was shooting in Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan. He flew down to Mumbai for the delivery.

The couple has named their week-old daughter Ava Nayla Bajpayee. With an excitement in his voice, Manoj said, “It is an amazing feeling. I am on the top of the world. Both Shabana and my daughter are fine.”

What about your paternity leave, Manoj? “I have just returned to Bhopal. I had taken a break from my shoot and Prakashji allowed me to be with my wife during her delivery. We were quiet about it initially as I am a private person,” said Manoj.

But we are screaming congratulations from the rooftops!
