Rakht Charitra

Generally, if a film fares well at the box-office, the producers start working on the second installment of the film. Of course, there’s always a substantial gap between the first and second parts, since the film-maker in question doesn’t rush into it till he locks the script of the film. However, Ramgopal Varma thinks differently. The maverick film-maker has decided to tell a story in two parts, which explains why he filmed the first and second parts of RAKHT CHARITRA at one go.

Now here’s the latest on the film[s]. While RAKHT CHARITRA – Part I will open next Friday [22 October], the second part, RAKHT CHARITRA – Part II, will open three weeks later, on 12/19 November. Incidentally, South superstar Surya, who plays a pivotal part in the film, makes an entry in the second part.

Rohit Roy to direct Shaukeen remake ../../2010/10/12/rohit-roy-to-direct-shaukeen-remake/ ../../2010/10/12/rohit-roy-to-direct-shaukeen-remake/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:30:09 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15234 By Taran Adarsh, October 12, 2010 – 08:49 IST

After directing one of the stories in DUS KAHANIYAAN and winning tremendous critical acclaim for it, actor-director Rohit Roy is gearing up to start his new film. This time, it’s a remake of Basu Chatterjee’s immensely likable and successful film SHAUKEEN, which starred Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and A.K. Hangal with Mithun Chakraborty and Rati Agnihotri in lead roles.

“The remaking rights have been acquired [from Basu-da] by Bunty Bahl, who will produce the film,” Rohit reveals. Although Rohit and Bunty have decided to retain the story and characters from the film, they have decided to update it to suit the present-day scenario. “SHAUKEEN was very simplistic. The new SHAUKEEN will be a modern version. Also, the original version was set in India. But we are not placing our film in India. We are looking at Las Vegas, Spain or Malaysia,” Rohit divulges.

Producer Bunty Bahl states that they will finalize the star cast of their film after they update the script [post Diwali]. The makers plan to begin filming early next year.

Check Out: Salman flaunts his ‘Mast Mast Nain’ ../../2010/10/12/check-out-salman-flaunts-his-mast-mast-nain/ ../../2010/10/12/check-out-salman-flaunts-his-mast-mast-nain/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:28:24 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15230 By Bollywood Hungama News Network, October 12, 2010 – 13:31 IST

Salman Khan

Salman Khan may have sung ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain‘ to his on-screen love Sonakshi in Dabangg but since the last few days its Sallu’s Nain (read ‘eye’) that has become the talk of the town. The actor has been seen sporting glares to most events including his Being Human fashion show and since then tongues have been wagging about some injury caused to Salman’s left eye. A newspaper article even went on to state that Sallu had developed bags under his eyes and had undergone surgery for the same because of which he is required to wear shades.

However, Salman being Salman, took everything with a pinch of salt, and thought its best to clarify to his fans via Twitter. The actor tweeted, “Thx fr the concern. It was jst a small scratch near the eye but b cs of all the commitments vit big boss, launch of being human watches, The being human fashion show, I had to attend all these functions n so b cs of the energy the blod clot spread in the whole eye”

The actor in his own quirky humorous style also added, “Dint tweet a pic cs it wld scare the hell out of u, wen thr is actually nothing to it , of course it hurts n vision is a slight blurr but vil be fine in a few days”

However, within a few minutes, Sallu did a post a pic of himself without his glares and jokingly tweeted, “Yeh lo meri aankhon mein khoon savaaaar hai whoooo whooooo aaahhhhhh hahahahah ha”

Must say when it comes to sporting the bindaas attitude, there is no one who comes close to Salman Khan.

Knock Out in court trouble ../../2010/10/12/knock-out-in-court-trouble/ ../../2010/10/12/knock-out-in-court-trouble/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:26:05 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15229 By Bollywood Hungama News Network, October 12, 2010 – 14:03 IST

Knock Out

The Sanjay Dutt, Irrfan Khan and Kangna starrer Knock Out is facing major trouble just days before its release. The Mani Shankar directed film is facing plagiarism allegations from a reputed Hollywood studio.

The case so far in question cropped up when 20th Century Fox moved the Bombay High Court alleging a copyright infringement, and seeking an injunction on the release of Sohail Maklai’s Knock Out. The basis for this petition being that the film Knock Out is a blatant copy of their Hollywood film Phone Booth starring Colin Farrell.

What’s interesting to know is that both films show the protagonist taking a victim hostage within a phone booth and forcing him to reveal certain dark secrets.

Yesterday, the High Court directed Sohail Maklai Entertainment Private Limited (SMEPL), producer of Knock Out, to give Fox Studios a copy of their screenplay and adjourned the case till Oct 13.

What is to be seen now, is if this case will delay the release of the film from its scheduled release date of Oct 15.

Phone Booth is itself copy of Liberty Stands Still-Mani Shankar ../../2010/10/12/phone-booth-is-itself-copy-of-liberty-stands-still-mani-shankar/ ../../2010/10/12/phone-booth-is-itself-copy-of-liberty-stands-still-mani-shankar/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:23:55 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15226 By Subhash K. Mani Shankar Director Mani Shankar has always been known for his fiercely original films like 16 December, Mukhbiir and Rudraksh.

Reacting sharply to the plagiarism charges against his latest film Mani, Shankar completely turns the argument on its head by arguing that the film which Knock Out is supposed to have copied is itself a copy.

Argues Mani, “First of all just because my film shows some shots of a man in a phone booth being targeted by a man with a gun, it doesn’t mean I’ve made Phone Booth. How utterly ridiculous! It’s like saying every love story which has a climax on the airport is copied.”

Then Mani adds the clincher. “Phone Booth itself is apparently a copy of Kari Skogland’s Liberty Stands Still. So I don’t see how charges of plagiarism can be levelled at us when the film is itself is not the epitome of originality.”

L. K. Advani who watched Knock Out on Saturday night in Delhi certainly found the film refreshing and thought provoking. He was seen emotionally holding the director’s hand after the screening.

Says Mani, “It was a golden moment for me. He wanted to know how I had got to know so many inner details on the 70 lakh crore rupees that were taken out of our country. Advanji now wants to watch my earlier political thrillers. I’m sending him DVDs of 16 December and Mukhbiir. My film Knock Out is a multi-layered political thriller about a real scam that rocked and nearly ruined our nation. A man being held hostage in a phone booth is a very small part of the film.”

Akshay Kumar in 3 avatars in Action Replayy ../../2010/10/12/akshay-kumar-in-3-avatars-in-action-replayy/ ../../2010/10/12/akshay-kumar-in-3-avatars-in-action-replayy/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:21:37 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15222 By Joginder Tuteja, October 12, 2010 – 11:38 IST

Action Replayy

Pick up any of the films where Akshay Kumar has worked with Vipul Shah and it is crystal clear that each of these films has been different. Whether it was Aankhen [a blind robber], Waqt [a wayward rich son], Namastey London [a village simpleton with a heart of gold] or Singh Is Kingg [a goofy villager], Akshay has been brought out of his zone on number of occasions and made to do something different film after film.

Now that they return with their fifth outing together, Action Replayy, Akshay and Vipul are all set to bring in something unique yet again. A retro film, Action Replayy would not just see Akshay in two different time zones separated by decades but also in three different looks as well as characterisation.

With audience expecting Akshay to do something different after a series of comic outings in the past, Vipul (expectedly) continues to heap praises on his lead actor who has stood by him ever since he turned filmmaker more than half a decade ago.

“I have always believed that Akshay is a terrific all rounder. All he needs is to be challenged as an actor”, says Vipul who has also worked with Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan [London Dreams] in the interim period, “In Action Replayy, we have gone through a complete transformation for Akshay; something that he has never done before.”

Continuing in the same vein, he adds, “In our last outing together (Singh Is Kinng), he got an identity of being a Punjabi boy. Now people will love him for his retro look. No one would have expected something like that from him or me, especially so after the films that we have made together. However, the idea was to surprise and this retro avtar is going to surprise quite a few out there.”

Well, people are in for a surprise for sure. With ‘Zor Ka Jhatka‘ presenting Akshay in a never seen before look, the feelers have also started coming in that there are two more looks that the actor carries in the film. One being that of an old man and another who is a little goofy before the entire look transformation takes place.

Despite the light hearted mood that the film promises to carry, Vipul wishes to call Action Replayy as a romantic musical that provides wholesome entertainment to all segments of audience. This would mean that after a series of largely comic outings [Housefull, De Dana Dan, Kambakkht Ishq], Akshay could well be seen in something truly different.

“That was the intent”, Vipul corroborates, “Akshay is a much bigger actor than what we see of him on screen. This is why I strive to do different things with him. In fact I am surprised to a certain extent that people have not really utilised his true potential as an actor. It is so strange that someone who is capable of doing so many things is time and again offered mainly comedies. No, I am not saying that a film should not have humour. But then I also feel that a film should not just be about humour. This is what makes Action Replayy stand apart from the rest.”

Akshay gets injured in mob fury outside night club ../../2010/10/12/akshay-gets-injured-in-mob-fury-outside-night-club/ ../../2010/10/12/akshay-gets-injured-in-mob-fury-outside-night-club/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:19:07 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15221 By Subhash K. Jha, October 12, 2010 – 12:22 IST

Akshay Kumar Akshay’s stint as a deejay at a suburban club in Mumbai on Saturday night as part of a promotion for his new film nearly ended in disaster. The star who was out to have fun at the club playing his favourite songs from the 1970s, ended up with injuries in his arms legs and back.

Mob fury beat down on Akshay, his co-star Aditya Roy Kapoor and director Vipul Shah when youngsters were not allowed to enter the jam-packed club. They vented their fury on the club-lobby, shattering the glass cases and breaking the furniture as Akshay and his team tried to make their get-away from the back entrance.

But to no avail. There were people jamming the backdoor too. Akshay, Vipul and Aditya had no choice but to push their way through the relatively smaller melee at the backdoor. In the bustle Akshay was injured.

Shudders Vipul, “It was a nightmare. It took us a good half an hour to make our way from the back entrance to Akshay’s car. By then the damage was done.”

Akshay has forbidden his colleagues who were with him on Saturday evening from talking about his injuries.

Achcha nahin lagta. They were well-meaning fans,” Akshay reasons.

To recap to Saturday evening, Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were supposed to act as deejays on Saturday night at the club Polyster. Aishwarya couldn’t make it. So Akshay braved the club armed with his favourite 1970s tracks including John Travolta’s ‘Saturday Night Fever‘, ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar‘ (Aap Ki Kasam), ‘La Bamba‘ and ‘Tum Kya Jaano‘ (Hum Kissise Kam Nahin).

Akshay was supposed to zip into the club, spend 20 minutes DJing and leave quickly before the crowds started swelling.

But Akshay got greedy.

Akshay Kumar Says Vipul, “Akshay really began enjoying himself. Instead of 20 minutes, he stayed a good 45 minutes. By then the word had spread around the club that Akshay Kumar was the deejay of the evening. The club could hold around 400 people. We expected an additional 500 people.”

Within half an hour the crowd increased, with people trying to get into the Club.

Shudders Vipul, “The door of the club had to be shut. Those who couldn’t get in got restless and angry. They started breaking all the glass and furniture. We fled through the backdoor. But not before facing the mob at the back entrance.”

Looking back Vipul sighs, “Thank God Aishwarya couldn’t make it. I can’t begin to imagine what would’ve happened if she was present.”

Says Akshay, “Hota hai. It was good fun. I got to play my favourite John Travolta track. It’s a pity my event with John didn’t materialize. I was out of town when he was in Mumbai. And when I returned he had left Mumbai.”

Anushka Sharma breaks up? ../../2010/10/12/anushka-sharma-breaks-up/ ../../2010/10/12/anushka-sharma-breaks-up/#comments Tue, 12 Oct 2010 09:12:38 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15218 Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 12, 2010)

Anushka Sharma is single again. She has parted ways with her boyfriend, actor Ranveer Singh from Yash Raj’s forthcoming film Band Baaja Baarat. The two actors were dating since April this year.

Says a source, “Anushka and Ranveer felt that they should concentrate on their careers now. Any distractions whatsoever could prove detrimental. It was a mutual decision. There is no animosity between the two.”

Anushka and Ranveer in happier times

Added the source, “The couple had been catching up for private dinners and outings, even though Ranveer has been given strict instructions by Yash Raj to lie low and not make any public appearances.

They were very much attracted to each other-but all that is now a thing of the past.”

Anushka remained unavailable for comment. Think of it, she never admitted to Ranveer being her boyfriend. When a scribe quizzed her about Ranveer, she freaked out saying, “Don’t you guys ever hang out with your colleagues? Does that mean you are dating them?” Before Ranveer, Anushka was linked with Shahid Kapoor, her co-actor in Badmaash Company, another Yash Raj Film. Come on Anushka, pyaar kiya to darna kya.

Debutante director Faruk Kabir will have to wait to see his debut film Allah Ke Banday

The film, which was scheduled to release on the 22nd of October has now been pushed to the 12th of November.

The change came as Jhootha Hi Sahi has now been postponed to the 22nd of October, making it difficult for Allah Ke Banday to get more cinema halls.

When contacted, Faruk Kabir said, “Yes it is true, we will be releasing the film on the 12th of November now.

The problem is that with Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi shifting to 22nd of October, along with Ramu’s Rakta Charitra, we had problems getting single screens.

But this forced change has given us a chance to give more time to the marketing.”

Allah Ke Banday, based on juvenile crime, stars Naseeruddin Shah, Sharman Joshi and Faruk Kabir in lead roles.
