Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar So, here’s what the news reads. And beware…it might just turn out that it’s ‘true’. At the moment, it’s just in talks. Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap are co-producing Vikram Motwane’s next untitled film. A few close sources from the director’s company told us that the two creative heads are in talks with each other on locking something concrete for Vikram’s next film.

Well, if it has Karan Johar interested, it must be a script that has touched his liking and if it has Anurag Kashyap to back it all up, we might just witness a never before seen spectacle to hit the big screens soon. Now that’s what I call commercial news more than just breaking.

Vishal Bharadwaj to direct SRK’s next? ../../2010/10/09/vishal-bharadwaj-to-direct-srks-next/ ../../2010/10/09/vishal-bharadwaj-to-direct-srks-next/#comments Sat, 09 Oct 2010 09:25:52 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15085

SRK has convinced cult director Vishal Bhardwaj to direct his next

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 09, 2010)

It promises to be quite a dashing combination of creativity and charisma: auteur Vishal Bhardwaj, still fresh from the cult adulation of Kaminey, has been signed on by SRK for his next feature after RA.One and Don 2. The details of this SRK-Bhardwaj collaboration are being kept under wraps.

A source informed, “Vishal and SRK have been meeting regularly for some time now. SRK and Vishal both wanted to work with each other. However in the past they had their share of differences and the project could not take off. The patch-up happened some months back and after that they have had regular meetings. However now it’s official and SRK and Vishal have zeroed down on a film. SRK has been impressed by the work that Vishal has been doing in recent times. Both of them have immense respect for each other and although the details of the script are not known, it is a film which will be based in a small town and have a mofussil feel to it.”

The source further said, “Vishal had also said in an interview to a leading film magazine recently that he wants to work with SRK and it seems that his dream has been fulfilled. The film will start mid next year.”

Guess Saif and Shahid’s loss is SRK’s gain. SRK and Vishal remained unavailable for comments. They must be busy bouncing ideas off one another. Incidentally, King Khan is also in talks with Vidhu Vinod Chopra productions.

Vishal’s spokesperson said, “Vishal is in Pune with his son Aasman watching an India vs Vietnam football match. And I can’t confirm anything right now.” Love all, play!

Emraan Hashmi in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power? ../../2010/10/08/emraan-hashmi-in-rajkumar-santoshis-power/ ../../2010/10/08/emraan-hashmi-in-rajkumar-santoshis-power/#comments Fri, 08 Oct 2010 09:10:34 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15069 By Joginder Tuteja, October 8, 2010 – 11:26 IST

Emraan Hashmi Has Emraan Hashmi joined the ‘powerful’ cast of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power which is fast turning out to be the most star studded affairs of 2011? Well, that’s the gossip going around in the industry circles ever since Power first came in news close to a fortnight ago.

Says an industry insider, “Yes, there have been talks of Emraan making an appearance in the film. Though the actor doesn’t do too many multi starrers, he did give the film a close hearing when he was approached for it. Rajkumar Santoshi is a huge name and his ensemble starrers can prove to be a huge draw. Also, Emraan too has opened up more after the smash success of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai which was a two hero project. He too feels that it isn’t bad after all to bring in that occasional multi starrer in his profile.”

Well, if Power stars Emraan, it would indeed turn out to be a casting coup of sorts with people across all generations being a part of this Firoz Nadiadwala biggie. While Amitabh Bachchan heads the star-cast, veteran actors like Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor bring in over 30 years of working experience each. Ajay Devgn is at the peak of his career after being around for 20 years and Emraan Hashmi being established in his own right completes the picture. Kangna Ranaut, Ameesha Patel and newbie Lekha Washington bring on the glamour quotient hence making Power a powerful experience.

However, the man in the question – Emraan – diffuses the speculation and denies that he is doing the film. “No, I am not a part of it”, is all that he is willing to comment when quizzed around the rumour making the rounds.

Though he isn’t willing to open up on the topic, rightly so because all his concentration is currently on his latest release Crook, he doesn’t deny the fact that he was approached for the role.

“Yes, I was in talks with Firoz bhai. We did have discussions that were taken to some level. However, it eventually didn’t work out. So yes, for the record, I am not doing Power. There is always a next time though”, says Emraan.

One would have thought though after Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, he won’t mind being a part of big multi starrers.

“Of course I won’t but then it isn’t that suddenly you would start seeing me in many multi starrers”, he says, “Even when I did Once Upon A Time…, it was after much deliberation. The results are there to be seen. It is the subject that ultimately matters and what you bring to the table. The script has to work. I haven’t switched on a green light to do multi starrers or films outside Vishesh Films. There is no such conscious decision. It isn’t about a multi starrer as a solo lead. I have to do a good job in a good film. Period.”

Well, that should set the record once for and all.

Lekha Washington

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has taken Lekha Washington under his wings. Lekha is Santoshi’s latest muse. Buzz is that Santoshi has signed Lekha for a three-film deal.

The first film in question is Power. Produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, it has already gone on the floors.

Says a source, “Power is a fabulous opportunity for Lekha. It’s a very big film with top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan, It will be a great learning platform of acting for Lekha.” Mentor ho toh aisa!

The industry is also buzzing that Lekha has been paid a bomb for Power. “Santoshi facilitated a handsome fee for her as well.

Raj Kumar Santoshi

So what if she has done only one film till now (Peter Gaya Kaam Se opposite Rajeev Khandelwal) which too hasn’t released yet? He sees a lot of potential in her.”

Both Lekha and Santoshi remained unavailable for comment.

Farah, Shirish fly biz class; triplets, nannies fly economy? ../../2010/10/08/farah-shirish-fly-biz-class-triplets-nannies-fly-economy/ ../../2010/10/08/farah-shirish-fly-biz-class-triplets-nannies-fly-economy/#comments Fri, 08 Oct 2010 08:40:02 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15044

On a holiday trip to Thailand, Farah Khan and husband Shirish Kunder flew business class, while the kids and their nannies flew economy

Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

On Tuesday night, choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan and her husband Shirish Kunder took off for a lavish holiday to Thailand. Not just the couple; they took their three children Czar, Anya and Diva as well. And that’s not all. The kids’ governesses also accompanied them. How adorable!

But here’s a shocker. While flying to their holiday destination, the couple was seated in business class and the kids and nannies in economy class.

An eyewitness reveals, “The entire family took off to Bangkok on Tuesday night. I saw Farah and Shirish seated in the business class (seat numbers: 2A and 2C). The kids Czar, Anya and Diva were seated in economy class (seat numbers 11 A, B and C) and their nannies Philomena D’souza, Mrs V Dhanavade and Mrs S Hadshi nearby (seat numbers 12 A, B and C). The business class was full, so there wasn’t any scope to get the kids and the nannies upgraded.”

Apparently, the triplets were shuttling between economy and business class, and were busy playing with each other, occasionally being cautioned by their nannies to be careful. “But the entire journey was quite pleasant,” adds the eyewitness.

It’s possible that only two tickets were available in business class for the kids but it might’ve been a problem to seat the third one then. So, the unavailability of adequate number of tickets can surely work as a genuine reason in favour of the couple.

But interestingly, daddy Shirish isn’t counting on better availability of tickets next time. When contacted, he said, “There is a little clarification. Maids were in economy and the babies were with us. After Tees Maar Khan becomes a big success, we should be in a position to the take the maids too in business class.” By ‘after’ you mean ‘if’ right?

In the wake of Robot’s blockbusterdom, the Roshans are allegedly having second thoughts about this sequel

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

Rajnikanth starrer Robot pushed the panic buttons in Shah Rukh Khan’s office. It is now doing the same in Rakesh Roshan’s office.

The latest whispers in Bollywood are that the Roshans are not too sure if they should go ahead with the sequel to their super hit Krrish (which released in 2006).

When contacted, Hrithik categorically said, “The film has not been shelved.” According to a source close to the film, “Krrish 2 is definitely not shelved. But what is sure is that Rakesh and Hrithik feel that a lot more work needs to be done on Krrish 2.

The arrival and the subsequent success of Robot has changed equations in the industry.”

Adds the source, “Krrish 2 will definitely happen, but at a later date. As of now, it seems that the Roshans’ next will not be Krrish 2.” When we asked Roshan Sr about this reported delay, he replied, “Not decided.”

We then asked him if Krrish 2 was taking time since he wanted to raise it to the highest standards possible. To this he replied, “No, not correct. I might start Krrish; wait for the announcement.”

Knowing Roshan Sr’s conceptualization, development and execution expertise, we wouldn’t be surprised if Krrish 2 goes on floors sooner than expected. But for now, it is on the backburner for some serious engineering.

Shahid-Priyanka wont appear together in KJo’s show? ../../2010/10/08/shahid-priyanka-wont-appear-together-in-kjos-show/ ../../2010/10/08/shahid-priyanka-wont-appear-together-in-kjos-show/#comments Fri, 08 Oct 2010 08:32:40 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15038

The forthcoming season of Karan Johar’s popular TV show may not see Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra together; their relationship is apparently not serious enough

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2010)

Agreed, this newspaper has given you ample proof that they’re in love but the truth was never a bed of roses. Shahid and Priyanka’s relationship has some serious shades of grey.

While Karan Johar and the broadcaster of Koffee With Karan are hoping Shahid and Priyanka would soon be seen in the forthcoming season of the show, Shahid has other plans. Shooting for the forthcoming season starts at the end of this month. But apparently, Shahid has refused to aprticipate in the show because Priyanka and he are still not in a very serious relationship; they’re dating.

Interestingly, at the time when he was dating Kareena Kapoor, Sasha appeared on the second season of Karan’s show with her. That’s history.

Says a source, “Shahid is still not sure about Priyanka. She is very important and dear to him but he would rather take some more time and make the relationship stronger than appear on national television making statements about it.”

While Priyanka was reportedly coaxing the Moranis to convince Shahid to join their forthcoming world tour (slated for next year), Shahid turned it down. The Moranis hven’t given up on him though.

Moreover, Shahid and Priyanka apparently still have fights very often. Adds the source, “This is another reason why Shahid has opted out of Karan’s show. He is obviously not comfortable being grilled by Karan, who is known for being audacious with his guests and even more so, if they are reportedly in a relationship.”

Another source from the television industry says, “The broadcasters of Koffee With Karan are very hopeful that they would have Shahid and Priyanka together on the show.”

Though Shahid and Priyanka did not revert to us on this, we’re hoping Karan’s charms would do the trick.

Vidya lays down conditions for her Silk Smitha role? ../../2010/10/07/vidya-lays-down-conditions-for-her-silk-smitha-role/ ../../2010/10/07/vidya-lays-down-conditions-for-her-silk-smitha-role/#comments Thu, 07 Oct 2010 08:40:41 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=14993

Living up to her name, Vidya Balan gave her producers Balaji Telefilms, a lesson on how she may and may not be portrayed as Silk Smitha, in Dirty Picture

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 07, 2010)

Days after we reported that Vidya Balan was to undergo rigorous training to play Silk Smitha in Milan Luthria’s biopic Dirty Picture, the actress is seemingly nervous.

Ekta Kapoor, head honcho of Balaji Telefilms, is producing the film. And Vidya, who flew to Kolkata last week to shoot for Sujoy Ghosh film (untitled), had to sort things out with Ekta. So, hours before boarding the flight, she called for a meeting with her producers. It turned out to be a long one

Vidya had a fixed agenda for the meeting, we’re told; it was to lay down some ground rules for her portrayal as Silk Smitha in Luthria’s film. And the actress put them across in her own sweet way but she was forthright about it. The following were Vidya’s conditions:

That there be no clear display of heaving breasts in songs

That going backless is fine but she would not encourage frontal exposure

That there be no camera close-ups of any of her assets

That she is not made to wear outfits that may be explicitly exposing parts of her body.

Interestingly, Ekta Kapoor, who is otherwise considered to be quite a hard taskmaster, accepted all of Vidya’s rules.

Moreover, Vidya apparently had some rules on the way she will be choreographed in the film as well. Says a source, “Vidya told them that the movements in songs could be suggestive, not vulgar.”

As a result of this, two choreographers will now plan out all her moves in the film. One will be brought from the South film industry, while the other will be from Mumbai.

And guess what? The source adds, “The choreographers too will be chosen only after Vidya has been consulted about them.”

While the producers were a tad surprised at the whole list of do’s and don’ts, apparently they saw it coming. Adds the source, “Ekta and Milan will create a representation of Silk Smitha’s character, without shades of sleaze. Vidya’s final look will still be a shocker.”

So we hope.

But one thing’s for sure. The actress, who had recently said to a section of the media, “I have never defined my boundaries, roles or films as an actor,” is not always up to practising what she preaches.

Akshay turns down Faltu? ../../2010/10/06/akshay-turns-down-faltu/ ../../2010/10/06/akshay-turns-down-faltu/#comments Wed, 06 Oct 2010 08:14:48 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=14957

Despite an alleged sum of Rs 15 crore being offered to Akki, the actor refused to act in the film

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 06, 2010)

Akshay Kumar

Producer Vashu Bhagnani went all out to resurrect his son Jackky Bhagnani’s career. Like in olden days, how Raj Kumar Kohli would cast A-list heroes in his films to add weight to his son Armaan Kohli’s vehicles, Vashu too did something similar.

Buzz is that he offered Akshay Kumar a gobsmacking Rs 15 crore (for 10 days’ work) to star in his forthcoming film, Faltu, starring his son Jackky. But Akshay is not biting the bait. In fact, he has politely turned down the offer.

This comes a bit of surprise since Akshay is known to be very professional when it comes to money. Says a source, “He told Vashu that he doesn’t have dates for the same.”

Can’t blame Akshay. We hear that the Khiladi Kumar has a lot on his plate: Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan and his television show, Master Chef India. It may be recalled that Vashu had first offered Akshay’s role to Sanjay Dutt, who too had declined it. Buzz then was that Sanjay rejected the offer (we don’t know how many crores were offered to him!) simply because Vashu didn’t cast his manager Dharam Oberoi’s daughter, Neha.

Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhangnani

Faltu, directed by Remo, is meant to relaunch Vashu’s son Jackky after the debacle of Kal Kissne Dekha last year. Now, it turns out that Vashu has completely erased the character offered to Sanju and Akshay.  Akshay, Vashu or Jackky did not respond to our calls. Guess  they thought we’re faltu.

In the wake of Rajni’s blockbuster, King Khan called for a day-long meeting with the RA.One team, deciding to make it the first-ever interactive gaming flick

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 05, 2010)

The spectacular success of Rajnikanth’s Robot has made Shah Rukh Khan and his team of RA.One sit up and become doubly alert about their pet project.

An SOS meeting was summoned at Mannat on Sunday. Those present at the meeting included director Anubhav Sinha, sound recordist Resul Pookutty and producer Shah Rukh.

After viewing the rushes, a number of vital strategic ideas were devised, following a heated debate, after which everyone let their hair down at a Bandra bar. The most startling resolution during the day-long meeting was to convert RA.One into a full-fledged gaming movie. Sound designer Resul Pookutty says, “The challenge with RA.One is to create a balance between the two distinctly different worlds of gaming and movies.

We met at Shah Rukh’s home on Sunday and watched the film. And yes, we’ve come up with a number of strategies to make RA.One different from all other super-hero films.”

Says a source, “The climax of the film will actually allow audiences to play the RA.One game in theatres as they watch the film. This kind of participative cinema has never been done before in any part of the world.” We can’t wait to push the right buttons.

It has also been decided that a super-hero film without the drama and emotions won’t appeal to Indian audiences. Says the source, “Shah Rukh feels Robot worked so well because it combines special effects with emotions and drama. In RA.One he wants the spectacle and the emotions in equal measures.” Shah Rukh has invited Martin Walsh, the editor of Rob Marshal’s musical feature film Chicago, to edit RA.One. Says the source, “The choice was between the editor of Avatar and Chicago. Shah Rukh has chosen the latter because he feels Chicago is closer to the pulse of a Bollywood drama than Avatar.”

RA.One is 80 per cent complete. The remaining 20 per cent would be completed only when Shah Rukh is sure that James Cameron’s Avatar and not Shankar’s Robot is given a run for its money. Beep, beep. Game Over.

A still from RA.One
