Rumour has it
Anushka Sharma is single again. She has parted ways with her boyfriend, actor Ranveer Singh from Yash Raj’s forthcoming film Band Baaja Baarat. The two actors were dating since April this year.
Says a source, “Anushka and Ranveer felt that they should concentrate on their careers now. Any distractions whatsoever could prove detrimental. It was a mutual decision. There is no animosity between the two.”
|Anushka and Ranveer in happier times|
Added the source, “The couple had been catching up for private dinners and outings, even though Ranveer has been given strict instructions by Yash Raj to lie low and not make any public appearances.
They were very much attracted to each other-but all that is now a thing of the past.”
Anushka remained unavailable for comment. Think of it, she never admitted to Ranveer being her boyfriend. When a scribe quizzed her about Ranveer, she freaked out saying, “Don’t you guys ever hang out with your colleagues? Does that mean you are dating them?” Before Ranveer, Anushka was linked with Shahid Kapoor, her co-actor in Badmaash Company, another Yash Raj Film. Come on Anushka, pyaar kiya to darna kya.
After their fallout in 2007 and a recent patch up, Nikhil Advani is making extra efforts to get back in the Karan Johar camp
After working on Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) with Karan Johar, director Nikhil Advani went on to make Salaam-E-Ishq (2007) with another producer. Karan was left high and dry and was hence upset with him.
The two were not talking to each other for a long time until they finally patched up. Karan then directed the mahurat shot of Nikhil’s next, Patiala House.
The latest is that Nikhil has now decided to tread very cautiously with his mentor Karan. With his last film Chandni Chowk To China (2009) having bombed at the box office, Nikhil wants to show Patiala House to Karan, in the hope of criticism. The film is almost ready and stars Akshay Kumar and Anoushka Sharma. And Nikhil wants to ensure all goes well with the film.
So, a few days ago, Nikhil showed at least a good half hour of Patiala House to Karan Johar. The meeting took place at Karan’s Dharma Productions office in Khar.
When contacted, Nikhil confirmed and said, “Yes, I did show parts of Patiala House to Karan. He saw them at his office.”
As for constructive criticism, Karan loved Anoushka’s look in the film, Nikhil told us. He added, “Karan also felt that there is some very good drama in the film and Akshay has delivered a very fine performance.”
Bygones are indeed bygones now. Nikhil added, “We had a misunderstanding in the past. We are reconnecting big time now.” Good decision, Nikhil. Who knows, kal ho na ho…
Refusing to appear on Koffee with Karan with Piggy Chops was the first sign. Now it turns out that the couple has called it a day, again
Shahid’s decision to stay off the TV show Koffee With Karan (as we reported on October 8, 2010), was probably a sane one; his relationship with Piggy Chops, which was always on shaky ground has now fully given way. Yes, they have split.
This time unfortunately, there seems to be no hopes of a reconciliation. Both Shahid and Priyanka decided to part ways mutually, as things were just not settling between them.
A source close to Priyanka reveals, “Shahid and Priyanka are fond of each other. But once they are in a relationship, things get more intense and cease to work. Both individuals have different perspectives on life and are career driven. The actors never went public about their relationship because they were always very uncertain about its status. Things always kept fluctuating and they were on and off for a long period. Only a few months ago did they patch up, only to break up though.”
Apparently things went downhill after Priyanka returned from her Khatron Ke Khiladi shoot in Brazil. The source adds, “The constant fights finally ended the relationship.”
Not too long ago, they were spotted together during the screening of Priyanka’s latest release, Anjaana Anjaani, but it seems that the cracks in the relationship had already begun showing. Things took a bad turn a few days ago and Sasha and Piggy Chops decided to end their relationship. They both remained unavailable for comment but are hopefully looking for their respective greener pastures now.
Grapevine has it that Shahid is showering a lot of care on a convalescent co-star, down with typhoid. Wonder if Shahid’s constant ‘get well soon’ messages and flowers had a role to play in this.
Gul Panag and the director of her film Turning 30, are screaming at each other over a botched dubbing schedule; producer Prakash Jha has acted as a mediator
The young female director of Turning 30, Alankrita Shrivastava, is not having it easy in Bollywood. She has had a cat fight with her actress Gul Panag.
Supposedly, after Gul Panag finished dubbing for the film, the entire hard disk containing the dub crashed (obviously they hadn’t heard of back-ups!). So Alankrita requested Gul to re-dub the film. Ms Panag was not too pleased but she agreed.
However, Alankrita called her again; no hard disk had crashed this time, but Alankrita was not happy with the re-dub and wanted to dub yet again. This is when Gul wigged out.
Producer of the film Prakash Jha acted as the mediator, but Alankrita and Gul are not the best of friends anymore.
When contacted, Alankrita said, “That’s rubbish. Gul is a very committed actor. She has always co-operated with me. We did have to re-dub the film. All the actors had to. And she has done a terrific job. There’s no question of a fall-out.”
Gul Panag, also being diplomatic. says, “Alankrita is very particular about what she wants. It’s hard work to get it right. But we’re both totally committed to doing our best for the film.” We recommend they watch Brian de Palma’s Blow Out, set in a dubbing studio, and make up! It’s a good scream.
Suspecting that a part of the film lacks punch, the hard taskmaster has demanded the cast to shoot for three more days
After Love, Sex aur Dhokha and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Balaji Motion Pictures is working on the release of its satire Shorr, starring the US hunk Sendhil Ramamurthy, Miss England Preeti Desai (currently dating Abhay Deol), Tusshar Kapoor, Nikhil Dwivedi and a wide ensemble cast.
But success can make anyone doubly cautious. This is exactly what is happening to Ekta Kapoor. The latest from Ekta’s office is that the hard task master has ordered extra scenes to be added in Shorr.
Says a source, “The film has three parallel interconnected stories but after watching a rough cut of the film the creative team felt that one of the tracks involving Tusshar and Nikhil needed more fleshing out.” Three days of additional shooting have been planned to take place later this year and a designated writer is working on the scenes with increased comic punches.
Says a source, “Now, Shorr will release early next year once the additional scenes have been incorporated.” Incidentally, a festival cut of the film was premiered on Friday at the prestigious Pusan Film Festival in Korea, where it received an encouraging response.
Adds the source, “All 140 seats in the auditorium were full. The audience was largely from the Far East and US.
The Q&A session with the New York-based directors Raj and DK following the screening went on for nearly 30 minutes. There is another screening of the film on October 14 at the festival.”
But this adulation, it seems, has not changed Ekta’s decision.
Buzz is that Bhansali’s magnum opus had too many English dialogues. These have been changed to Hindi to increase the film’s mass appeal
As Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish nears release, the Hrithik-Ash starrer is going through some last-minute changes to give it more mass appeal.
The film, which has been set in the Portuguese pockets of Goa, had a lot of English dialogue, which have now been dubbed in Hindi.
The film, which had many crucial scenes in English, will now be seen with 95 percent Hindi dialogue to avoid any risk of losing patronage.
Our source said, “The film is based in Goa, in a part where the inhabitants are Portuguese, so it was bound to be in English. However now that the film is shot and done with, the producers of the film, UTV as well as Bhansali, felt that the film needed more Hindi dialogue to appeal to wider audiences.
The initial thought was that the film will only appeal to the gentry, but they realised that it does strike an emotional chord with one and all. They do not want to limit the prospects of the film by having more English as Hrithik’s last film Kites bore the brunt of having too much of a foreign tongue.
However, in this case, there is Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the combination of Hrithik and Aishwarya Rai, so why not go all out and target all sections? Keeping all these aspects in mind, most of the English portions were changed to Hindi.
Now the film is 95 per cent in Hindi. The film is based on the concept of euthanasia (mercy killing) and these were shot in English. However, now the producers feel that these scenes need to be made in Hindi. At the end of the day, it is the emotions in the film which count.”
The source added, “Bhansali is confident about the film and in the past too his film Black, which had a lot of English dialogue, was a blockbuster. So, he wanted to go by his conviction even with Guzaarish. But since everyone said that some vital scenes have to be in Hindi, he agreed to this.”
Conversely, when contacted, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, denied the story. He said, “That’s not true. It’s a Hindi film made for audiences in India and for South Asians overseas. There is no separate dub at all.” The official spokesperson of Sanjay Leela Bhansali also said, “The film was always in Hindi and shot in sync sound, so there is no question of making any changes.” Theek hai, point noted.

So, here’s what the news reads. And beware…it might just turn out that it’s ‘true’. At the moment, it’s just in talks. Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap are co-producing Vikram Motwane’s next untitled film. A few close sources from the director’s company told us that the two creative heads are in talks with each other on locking something concrete for Vikram’s next film.
Well, if it has Karan Johar interested, it must be a script that has touched his liking and if it has Anurag Kashyap to back it all up, we might just witness a never before seen spectacle to hit the big screens soon. Now that’s what I call commercial news more than just breaking.
SRK has convinced cult director Vishal Bhardwaj to direct his next
It promises to be quite a dashing combination of creativity and charisma: auteur Vishal Bhardwaj, still fresh from the cult adulation of Kaminey, has been signed on by SRK for his next feature after RA.One and Don 2. The details of this SRK-Bhardwaj collaboration are being kept under wraps.
A source informed, “Vishal and SRK have been meeting regularly for some time now. SRK and Vishal both wanted to work with each other. However in the past they had their share of differences and the project could not take off. The patch-up happened some months back and after that they have had regular meetings. However now it’s official and SRK and Vishal have zeroed down on a film. SRK has been impressed by the work that Vishal has been doing in recent times. Both of them have immense respect for each other and although the details of the script are not known, it is a film which will be based in a small town and have a mofussil feel to it.”
The source further said, “Vishal had also said in an interview to a leading film magazine recently that he wants to work with SRK and it seems that his dream has been fulfilled. The film will start mid next year.”
Guess Saif and Shahid’s loss is SRK’s gain. SRK and Vishal remained unavailable for comments. They must be busy bouncing ideas off one another. Incidentally, King Khan is also in talks with Vidhu Vinod Chopra productions.
Vishal’s spokesperson said, “Vishal is in Pune with his son Aasman watching an India vs Vietnam football match. And I can’t confirm anything right now.” Love all, play!

Has Emraan Hashmi joined the ‘powerful’ cast of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power which is fast turning out to be the most star studded affairs of 2011? Well, that’s the gossip going around in the industry circles ever since Power first came in news close to a fortnight ago.
Says an industry insider, “Yes, there have been talks of Emraan making an appearance in the film. Though the actor doesn’t do too many multi starrers, he did give the film a close hearing when he was approached for it. Rajkumar Santoshi is a huge name and his ensemble starrers can prove to be a huge draw. Also, Emraan too has opened up more after the smash success of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai which was a two hero project. He too feels that it isn’t bad after all to bring in that occasional multi starrer in his profile.”
Well, if Power stars Emraan, it would indeed turn out to be a casting coup of sorts with people across all generations being a part of this Firoz Nadiadwala biggie. While Amitabh Bachchan heads the star-cast, veteran actors like Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor bring in over 30 years of working experience each. Ajay Devgn is at the peak of his career after being around for 20 years and Emraan Hashmi being established in his own right completes the picture. Kangna Ranaut, Ameesha Patel and newbie Lekha Washington bring on the glamour quotient hence making Power a powerful experience.
However, the man in the question – Emraan – diffuses the speculation and denies that he is doing the film. “No, I am not a part of it”, is all that he is willing to comment when quizzed around the rumour making the rounds.
Though he isn’t willing to open up on the topic, rightly so because all his concentration is currently on his latest release Crook, he doesn’t deny the fact that he was approached for the role.
“Yes, I was in talks with Firoz bhai. We did have discussions that were taken to some level. However, it eventually didn’t work out. So yes, for the record, I am not doing Power. There is always a next time though”, says Emraan.
One would have thought though after Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, he won’t mind being a part of big multi starrers.
“Of course I won’t but then it isn’t that suddenly you would start seeing me in many multi starrers”, he says, “Even when I did Once Upon A Time…, it was after much deliberation. The results are there to be seen. It is the subject that ultimately matters and what you bring to the table. The script has to work. I haven’t switched on a green light to do multi starrers or films outside Vishesh Films. There is no such conscious decision. It isn’t about a multi starrer as a solo lead. I have to do a good job in a good film. Period.”
Well, that should set the record once for and all.
Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has taken Lekha Washington under his wings. Lekha is Santoshi’s latest muse. Buzz is that Santoshi has signed Lekha for a three-film deal.
The first film in question is Power. Produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, it has already gone on the floors.
Says a source, “Power is a fabulous opportunity for Lekha. It’s a very big film with top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan, It will be a great learning platform of acting for Lekha.” Mentor ho toh aisa!
The industry is also buzzing that Lekha has been paid a bomb for Power. “Santoshi facilitated a handsome fee for her as well.
|Raj Kumar Santoshi|
So what if she has done only one film till now (Peter Gaya Kaam Se opposite Rajeev Khandelwal) which too hasn’t released yet? He sees a lot of potential in her.”
Both Lekha and Santoshi remained unavailable for comment.
