The pre Diwali phase is hitting business badly as the new releases opened to very low numbers. Only Hisss managed to have face saving collections but only at select screens.

Jhootha Hi Sahi opened around the 35% mark and did not show much improvement in the evening as some romantic comedies do. The film has a fairly big investment which will be impossible to recover unless it has a miraculous turnaround.

Rakht Charitra opened at around the 25% mark and is likely to make little impact at the box office.

Dus Tola was very bad with 0-5% and will be out of theatres very quickly.

Aakrosh had an 11 crore nett week one and despite steady weekdays the overall collection is very low. FLOP

Knock Out also had steady weekdays but only a 4.25 crore nett week. DISASTER

Anjaani Anjaani added around 1.50 crore nett in its third week and will finish at 40.25 crore nett and a distributor share of 19.50 crore approx.

Four releases – RAKHT CHARITRA, JHOOTHA HI SAHI, HISSS and DUS TOLA – and the business seemed clearly divided. JHOOTHA HI SAHI opened marginally better at plexes of metros, while HISSS was poor at plexes but better at single screens of mass centres. The Telugu version of RAKHT CHARITRA fetched a flying start, but the Hindi version didn’t, while DUS TOLA went completely unnoticed. The films may generate some interest over the weekend in some sectors, but weekdays onwards, the films are not expected to sustain.

The pre-Diwali phase is expected to take a toll next week and the industry feels that the business on weekdays is expected to decline considerably.

Raktacharitra RAKTACHARITRA [Telugu] has opened to packed houses in Andhra Pradesh. The film got a huge response from its Telugu audiences, who are already very well versed with the real life incidents and had gathered in huge numbers outside theatres since morning.

RAKTACHARITRA [Telugu] opened in 280 screens and due to its growing popularity and high public demand, it will open in additional 40 screens with 90 additional shows. The film is already sold out for the week.

B.O. update: ‘Aakrosh’ dull, ‘Knock Out’ poor start ../../2010/10/17/b-o-update-aakrosh-dull-knock-out-poor-start/ ../../2010/10/17/b-o-update-aakrosh-dull-knock-out-poor-start/#comments Sun, 17 Oct 2010 03:29:10 +0000 Fenil Seta ../../?p=15414 - By Taran Adarsh, October 15, 2010 – 21:50 IST

The two major releases of the week, AAKROSH and KNOCK OUT, both starring known names, started on a dull note across the country. Call it the affect of the pre-Diwali phase [film business slips considerably during these days] or bad luck, but despite aggressive promotion undertaken by the respective producers, the opening numbers of the two films were way below the mark. While AAKROSH had a 40% start at places, KNOCK OUT was 15% to 20% generally. The third release, RAMAYANA [animation], was dismal as well.

Saturday and Sunday are crucial for the three films, since next Friday will witness the release of four new films and if the business isn’t encouraging during the weekend and subsequently on weekdays, the films will be left with very little screen time at cineplexes next week.

Had a good opening weekend. But slipped considerably from Monday onwards. Collected approx. Rs. 24 cr. nett in its opening weekend and approx. Rs. 9 cr. nett on weekdays. The Week 1 total stands at approx. Rs. 33 cr. nett, with a big chunk of revenue coming from plexes. The film has fared poorly at single screens. However, the film is expected to make decent profits, since a large chunk of investment has been recovered from sale of Satellite Rights, Music Rights and various territories

Has fared exceptionally well in Tamil and Telugu versions, but the business in the Hindi version remained ordinary. (Collected 10.50 crore according to Boxofficeindia.com and 15 crore as per an article in The Times of India dated Oct 9)

Added Rs. 5 cr. nett in its fourth week. Total: Rs. 137 cr. nett. Blockbuster

Collected Rs. 3.58 cr. nett in its opening weekend and Rs. 1.46 cr. nett on weekdays. The breakup is as follows:- Fri: Rs. 75 lacs [incl. Thu. previews], Sat: 1.35 cr., Sun: 1.48 cr., Mon: 35 lacs, Tue: 40 lacs, Wed: 35 lacs and Thu: 36 lacs. The Week 1 total stands at Rs. 5.04 cr. nett. Is best in Mumbai-Gujarat. The producers have recovered the cost of production from the sale of Satellite Rights and the revenue generated from India theatrical [after deducting P & A expenses] and Home Video will only add to the profits

Generally, Emraan Hashmi starrers enjoy a good opening at the box-office, but his new film, CROOK, did not muster an encouraging start at the ticket window. The opening was good in Punjab due to the popularity of the ‘Chhalla’ track, but in other circuits, the opening was way below expectations, ranging from ordinary to dull. Since the word of mouth is negative, the film will find the going tough.

DO DOONI CHAAR had a poor start everywhere, but the industry is hopeful that the good reports will translate into good numbers at plexes on Saturday and Sunday.

ANJAANA ANJAANI, riding on the star power of Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, opened to very good houses at multiplexes across the country. Multiplexes in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Hyderabad and other centres opened to almost packed house. The opening and noon shows were in 80% to 90% range. At several stations, they were 100% too. However, the single screens are expected to be slow not just for ANJAANA ANJAANI, but for ROBOT too since the audience hasn’t really gone out in mass-dominated Hindi belt.

ROBOT [Hindi version] has started slowly, its opening was 30% in morning and noon shows, but the reports are very good and the film is expected to grow by evening. The film has opened to an exceptional response in South.

There were no new releases this week due to the postponement of Anjaana Anjaani which will release next week.

Dabangg continues to dominate the box office as it grossed 35.25 crore nett approx in its second week taking its two week business to 116 crore nett. The third week opened very well with single screens super strong across the country. The Friday collections amount to 2-2.25 crore nett. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER

The last quarter will a big release practically every week and with huge hits like Dabangg and Raajneeti already it may turn out to be a very good year for the industry.
