Vishal, Tabu ‘patch up’?
0We recently broke the news that Piggy Chops has taken refuge in the US because of the disappointing reception of Vishal Bhardwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf and her usual antics with Sasha.
As the saying goes, when one window closes another one opens.
And ironically, it was Sasha’s birthday bash that opened up the opportunity for Bhardwaj and Tabu to bury their six-year-long hatchet.
Our source gives us an insight into what transpired between the two, saying, “Tabu and Vishal did Maqbool together, which gave them rave reviews.
Everyone assumed Vishal’s next film Omkara would feature Tabu.
Since she was not part of the film, it became clear that they had some differences in opinion over some of the sequences in Maqbool.
At Shahid’s party, Tabu came face-to-face with Vishal after six years.
She broke the ice by saying ‘Vishalji kaise hai aap?’ After which they hit it off instantly and were seen having a long conversation.”
Kangna bans the bikini
0She refused to wear a bikini for a scene that has Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn ogling at her
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 01, 2011)
Kangna Ranaut, known for her insatiable ability to sport the quirkiest and the most fashionable outfits in Bollywood, recently shied away from wearing a bikini.
This turned out to be a volte-face because the actress had agreed to wear it initially and was in fact quite excited about it.
But last week, while shooting for David Dhawan’s Rascals, Kangna suddenly threw a big fit on one of the beaches in Thailand, when Dhawan asked her to wear her bikini.
Even the lead actors Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn could not convince her.
The incident was doubly shocking because Kangna had apparently shopped for the two-piece herself.
And given her past inclination to design and make her own clothes, this only reaffirmed the fact that she was confident about wearing the bikini. Says a source, “Kangna had even told her friends that she was very excited to wear a two-piece and was looking forward to the day. Nobody could understand what prompted her to change her mind.”
The shooting was stalled for nearly four hours after Kangna threw a fit. The source adds, “Usko bahut samjhaya lekin who nahin mani.
One could understand if Dhawan had not informed her about the bikini earlier, she would have been fair then. But that was so not the case.”
Why did the otherwise self-assured actress develop cold feet all of a sudden? The buzz is that More >
Ranbir was initially offered Band Baaja Baaraat?
0Peeved by Ranbir Kapoor’s refusal to do Band Baaja Baraat, Adi Chopra created Ranveer the star
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 01, 2011)
There is a belief among friends and well-wishers of the illustrious Yash Raj house that the banner is determined to build their newly-found blue-eyed boy Ranveer Singh as a rival, competitor and a strong alternative to Ranbir Kapoor.
It started before Band Baaja Baaraat, when Aditya Chopra invited the hot-and-happening Ranbir Kapoor to do a film with Yash Raj that Adi thought would take Ranbir’s superstardom to another level.
That role was Band Baaja Baaraat, and when Ranbir in all his inherited wisdom politely declined the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ offer the sensitive Adi was deeply wounded.
Says a source very close to the banner, “Adi couldn’t believe Ranbir had turned down the role.
Nilesh WairkarIt was at that point that the banner decided to create another star comparable in terms of versatility, focus and youth appeal to Ranbir.” That’s how Ranveer Singh was born.
Today after Band Baaja….and Ranveer’s incredible mass acceptance Aditya Chopra feels vindicated.
Says the source, “Adi had great confidence in Ranveer. That confidence has multiplied beyond all expectations.
Today Yash Raj feels they’ve created Brand Ranveer to rival Brand Ranbir.” Apparently Ranveer will sign no films outside the Yash Raj banner for at least the next three years.
The second Yash Raj film has already gone on the More >

0Bollywood’s sporty men are all set to take on South stars in a day-and-night cricket match at Visakhapatnam
Nimisha Tiwari | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; March 1, 2011)
What’s common between the actors from the South and apna Bollywood brigade, apart from acting? Cricket. And now they plan to come together to play the game.
With the World Cup matches currently on, cricket’s truly the flavour of the season. To make the most of this craze, a select team of tinseltown actors including the spirited Salman Khan, Sonu Sood, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Suneil Shetty, Harman Baweja, Riteish Deshmukh and Ashish Chowdhry, have agreed to make their way to Visakhapatnam (Vizag) on March 5 for a curtain raiser, Day and Night Celebrity Cricket League T20 match there. South stars are obviously not sitting ducks, their cricketing skills are already well-known. The team, which includes Venkatesh, Sudeep, Surya, Manchu Vishnu, Aarya, Siddharth, Tarun, Abbas, Chiranjeevi Sarja, Shantanu Bhagyaraj, Sarath Kumar, Vikrant and Shaam, are all geared to kick their opponent’s ass, on the ACA-VDCA cricket stadium in Vizag. One actor who was chosen to play from both Bolly and Tolly sides was Sonu Sood. A beaming Sonu says, “I’ve always aspired to be a cricketer but main acting field mein aa gaya. I had shot for Atturu with Trisha in Vizag many years ago, so I was called to join the South team first. But, Salman Khan asked me to be on Bollywood’s side.”

Indians at Oscars get ignored in global coverage
0Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; March 1, 2011)
The 83rd Academy Awards saw some of the big names of Indian cinema grace the red carpet at the Kodak theatre but the people waiting to see Indian faces shine on it were disappointed again this year.
Our stars barely got any screen time in the global coverage. Bollywood, , has stamped its authority all over the world but Hollywood treats our stars like foster children. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan regarded as the mascot of Indian films globally, and husband Abhishek Bachchan were the only two who were covered in the global coverage. They have also been written about widely in the international press. In the Indian coverage, they were given their due time though with a full fledged interview.
The case of Mallika Sherawat is most curious. She hollers about her LA connections, and how she hobnobs with the best in business in Beverly Hills and even puts up details on her social networking site. But that’s all it is. Talk, talk, talk. At this year’s Oscar’s coverage, even in the Indian broadcast, there was just a fleeting shot of her — she wasn’t even asked to give a byte. The global coverage too did not give any attention to the Hissss actress. It’s time the actress stopped boasting about the AListers she dines and parties with, and to start concentrating on her flagging career in BTown, where she would get a little attention.
Ashutosh Gowariker and his son Konark were also present at this More >
Ash to host Colin Firth?
0The actress caught up with The Last Legion co-star at the Oscars and extended an invitation to him to visit Mumbai
Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; March 1, 2011) Academy award winner Colin Firth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan go back. They first met when they acted in the Hollywood big budget movie The Last Legion (add year of release) and they’ve stayed in touch. So naturally this year the actress was rooting for Colin at the Oscars. She was seen cheering when he won the Best Actor award for The King’s Speech. She was disappointed when he didn’t win last year for his performance for A Single Man.
When they met at the after party, she congratulated him warmly and introduced him to her husband, Abhishek. She even raised a toast for him. Later, they talked about a possible meeting during her stay in LA. In case their schedule didn’t permit this, they talked about connecting with him next month. Colin was ecstatic with his Oscar win and was overheard saying he couldn’t believe he was holding the trophy in his hand. They spoke for about 10 minutes and agreed to catch up again when the madness (the entire Hollywood junta wanted a piece of Colin at the party) surrounding Colin subsided.
Although there is speculation whether she has plans to host him in Mumbai and celebrate his success here, everyone is tight-lipped about the details. However, we hear that Colin’s trip to India is anyway overdue as Ash had extended an invitation to him More >
Priyanka to cut an international album
0The grapevine suggests PC will be recording an album soon, in collaboration with an international singer
TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; March 1, 2011)
It’s not just her drop-dead physical attributes that make Priyanka Chopra attractive. She can also hum her way through a storm. Music is in her genes; her father Dr Ashok Chopra is a trained singer and has enthralled audiences with his Mohammad Rafi songs on a number of occasions.
As of now some desi websites are buzzing with the news that Piggy Chops will cut an international album. And BT managed to find out that on her recent trip to the US, she did have a couple of closed-door meetings with some music giants. Our source says, “Priyanka even met with Lady Gaga. And, in all likelihood the 25-year-old American singer-songwriter, who is a rage and our very own B-town beauty may just collaborate on an album.”
The news of Priyanka lending her voice to a pop album is exciting. If it happens she will be the first Bollywood actress to cut an international album. PC’s official spokesperson however chose to play it safe, “Priyanka and Lady Gaga did meet at a concert. They spoke at length backstage. However, there is no collaboration happening between them.”
No matter what their official stance on this is, an eyewitness maintains, “PC and Lady Gaga did talk about music at length. The diva of pop told her how fascinated she is with India and Bollywood. She also told Priyanka that she is keen to visit More >
Satrangee Parachute: Young gun shooting
0BOMBAY TIMES (February 28, 2011)
He was among the youngest on the sets of Wonder Works Films’ Satrangee Parachute, but that didn’t deter 24-year-old Vineet Khetrapal from extracting the best possible work out of his cast and crew. Vineet, who has made his directorial debut with this flick (he has also produced this), said that he wanted to make a children’s film because not many good movies are made in this genre.
He says, “The industry is now focusing on animation movies, but I wanted to make something different. My family is already into the advertising business and I have done my post graduation in film production from London, so I had a background in making movies.” The movie is the story of a boy Pappu who wants to give a parachute to his friend Kuhu, who is visually impaired. In his quest, he travels from Nainital to Mumbai and inadvertently gets caught in a terror plot along with his friends.
As far as the younger cast is concerned, they were all selected through an audition, says Vineet, and that includes 12-year-old Adeeb Hussain, son of politico Shahnawaz Hussain. Says Vineet, “We held an audition in Mumbai, where over a thousand children turned up. He was selected there and was completely normal on the sets.
