Remember this roly-poly child artiste from Shriman Shrimati many years ago? Well, the fat boy, Ajay Nagrath, is now very slim and is a fitness freak. He did a number of TV shows and even films, but there came a point in life when he was unhappy that his weight had become his identity in the industry. “I used to be a couch potato. After having a big meal, I would sit in front of the television with chips, snacks, ice-cream. I was very lazy and would hardly go out or play any sports. But one day I decided that I had to lose weight. That was when I was around 16. I started going to the gym and at one point, I even managed to lose 20 kilos, but unfortunately put it back all over again! I could never lose weight consistently, which was very disheartening,” recounts Ajay.
Life changed when he got a call for the show Biggest Loser Jeetega, where participants were paid to lose weight. “We would do three strenuous cardio sessions in a day, eat five meals, essentially lean meats like fish and chicken, but all with absolutely no salt in it. It was tough but it was a sacrifice I had to make because I knew I would never be able to lose weight on my own. I tried and failed many times. This was my last opportunity to lose weight,” says Ajay. He lost 60 kilos while on the show with his weight coming down to 82.
But life’s never that easy. After the show was over, Ajay’s craving for food increased tremendously and he put on eight to nine kilos in no time as he started bingeing on food. “Finally, I decided enough is enough and took help from a a weight-trainer, nutritionist and a fat loss advisor,” he says. Today, the 25-year-old, who weighs 65 kilos, is very happy with himself and raring to go. “I am getting television offers, but now I want to try movies. I am anxious about my career, it has been quite a while that I faced camera. But I am not a newcomer and have been in the industry for very long now. You turn on the camera and I just go…”
