TV actors shouldn’t take their fame too seriously-Gurdip Kohli

Gurdip Kohli on serials, films and how life has changed post-motherhood

You played a cop in Rowdy Rathore, but your character didn’t have too many dialogues…
It was a package that I couldn’t refuse… big producer, big director and a big star, a film which could not go unnoticed. My screen time was limited but I think it was effective and powerful. Besides, I got a superb response. People got to see me as a cop this time and not in my usual bahu avatar. I feel RR will help me to reach out to the industry to make them aware that I am ready to take on more film projects.
A few years ago during your Sanjivani days, there was buzz that you were being considered for a lead role in a film. Any regrets when you look back?
Yes, I was offered films but I guess my destiny had television in store for me. I have no regrets because whatever I am today it is because of TV. I only bagged RR because they wanted a known face from TV who people could relate too.
Now that you are looking at films, what about serials?
I am still doing Best of Luck Nikki on TV. It’s not a daily soap and that leaves me with a lot of time. So actually I am just taking a small break from our usual daily soaps to try my luck in films.
A TV actor enjoys a lot fame while his/her show is doing well, but the moment it ends, the person tends to fade into oblivion…
I don’t agree. This happens to actors who take their fame too seriously, if you are a good actor and honest towards your work you will be remembered and will be wanted back. I have been very lucky that shows have done well and viewers have enjoyed my work. People still remember me as Dr Juhi from Sanjivani. In fact during my sabbatical wherever I went people kept asking me about my sudden absence.
What about your husband Arjun Punjj? He quit TV to pursue films…
Arjun’s opened a lounge bar and is looking to expand the business. So he is still not interested in TV. His first passion is films and he continuous to pursue it.
And how much has life changed after becoming a mommy?
My daughter is my top priority, she has made our life special and more relaxed. Being a mom is great fun with a sense of responsibility. It’s priceless.
