It’s official. The second part of Anurag Kashyap’s highly anticipated revenge drama GANGS OF WASSEYPUR will release on August 8 this year. The update was given by Taran Adarsh on Twitter. “Update: Viacom18 to release #GOW2 on Wednesday, 8 August. Innovative strategy by Vikram Malhotra of Viacom18 and @ankash1009“, is what he wrote. An hour later, the official twitter page of the film posted a tweet, “For all those asking and also those not asking but are eager to know#GOW2 will release on 8th August!”, and this was retweeted by director Anurag Kashyap.

The first part released three weeks back and was well received by critics and audiences alike. Director Anurag Kashyap had assured that the release date of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 will be announced in a few days after the release of the first part. However, that didn’t quite happen. Recently, the residents of Wasseypur and Dhanbad, apparently pretty upset with the film, called for it’s ban.

The makers plan to formally announce the release date tonight at the success party of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR. The theatrical trailer of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 too would be unveiled.

This piece of news shall surely bring cheer to fans of the film since the second part will hit screens in less than two months after the release of the first part. However, commercially, the film might have a tough time. The holy month of Ramzan will be in full-swing during August 8. Moreover, the monstrous EK THA TIGER will be arriving a week later (August 15) which might prove detrimental to the film’s box office collections.
