COMEDY V/S MYSTERY THIS WEEKEND!

At a recent event held to promote Chaar Din Ki Chandni, director Samir Karnik was asked whether he feels threatened by the fact that his film is releasing alongside Kahaani that has created enough excitement for the viewers. I was left astonished with the question! This is because Kahaani is a women-centric film and doesn’t boast of any known male lead. Yet, it has created enough buzz and will be giving tough competition to Chaar Din Ki Chandni even though it belongs to the ‘safe’ comic genre! Times have changed for sure!

Talking of Chaar Din Ki Chandni (CDKC), the film stars Tusshar Kapoor and Kulraj Randhawa and dozens of supporting actors like Anupam Kher, Anita Raj, Sushant Singh, Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Mukul Dev, Farida Jalal etc. The film is special in many ways. Tusshar, in this film, disguises as Sardar and man…he looks so unrecognizable! In fact many viewers didn’t knew, after watching the trailer, that the sardar they just saw is none other than Tusshar! Secondly, we’ll get to see Anita Raj and Chandrachur Singh after ages. Thirdly, the film is directed by Samir Karnik who directed last year’s comic caper Yamla Pagla Deewana (YPD). In fact, CDKC too has flashes of YPD as well. The film has been shot in the beautiful and sprawling Khimsar Palace Fort in Rajasthan. Karnik in an interview wonderfully explained the plot of the film, “The film shows the clash of Punjabi and Rajasthani cultures. Both are Singhs but who’s the real King? To find out, watch the film!” Impressive! The makers have incorporated the remix version of ‘O Meri Chandni’ picturised on Sridevi-Rishi Kapoor in Chandni. The makers also invited them at the music release of the film.

The promotion of the film has been satisfactory. Excitement is moderate which is good especially when it’s a Tusshar-starrer! The film will be releasing tomorrow itself (Holi) but how many people will venture out tomorrow to see the film is questionable! A good response can help the film to attain commercial success. It has good chances in Punjab and Rajasthan!

I can’t help but feel proud whenever I saw Vidya Balan walking around with her baby bump in the promos of Kahaani or in its promotional events! Here’s an actor who has repeatedly shattered myths that women-centric films can work and become hits! Talking of Kahaani, the first trailer of the film was a significant factor in making this film one of the keenly awaited for the audiences! Many a time, the first trailer turns out to be good but the promos later on suck! Thankfully, it didn’t happen with Kahaani! The subsequent promos and the songs are rocking! Special mention should go to Ekla Cholo Re sung by none other than Amitabh Bachchan! It gives goosebumps…Aami shotti bolchi!

The film might not have earth shattering opening but has very high chances to have a fairly nice weekend. Since it’s made on reasonable costs, recovery should be damn easy! Also, it’s going to be the first choice of moviegoers. Hope the film turns out as good as the promos!
