Fenil’s Bollywood Talk # 190
WILL GALI GALI CHOR HAI SCORE AT THE BOX OFFICE?
The anger against the corrupt leaders and the corrupt system is at an all time high. Hence, the release time of Gali Gali Chor Hai (GGCH) couldn’t have been better. Based on a common man who gets embroiled in the web of the corrupt system, the makers of GGCH even inserted a clever line in the promo “This corrupt season, come together to slap the system”. And with Shah Rukh having slapped Shirish, this tagline works in more ways than one!
GGCH stars Akshaye Khanna as Bharat who is described as ‘full time banker and part time Hanuman’ as he essays the role of Lord Hanuman in local Ramleela shows! The rest of the talented cast includes Mughda Godse, Shriya Saran, Satish Kaushik, Annu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Akhilendra Mishra, Murli Sharma etc. The first promo came out around a month back which got appreciation and it was a treat to witness Akshaye Khanna donning Hanuman’s getup! Last week, the makers employed a clever idea by screening GGCH for the anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare at his hometown Ralegan Siddhi. Hazare apparently was satisfied with the film. However, what really goes in favour of the film is that it’s very rooted and grounded story. It deals with the woes faced by a common man and such films always appeal to the aam junta as they too face such problems in their daily life.
Sadly, there are too many odds going against GGCH. The film surely boasts of talented names but none are popular enough to create excitement amongst the audiences. Moreover, promo was liked but wasn’t great enough to pull audiences to theatres. The film also has an item number ‘Chhanno Ka Jalwa’ picturised on Veena Malik which again hasn’t been favourably received. Due to these reasons, GGCH has sadly dim chances of scoring at the BO and will have a poor opening when it releases tomorrow. However, as aforementioned, the film has in it to strike a chord with the audiences. Hence, if the film receives good response, it’ll surely manage to accumulate some profit, especially when it’s made on a reasonable budget!

SRK-SHIRISH KUNDER SLAPPING INCIDENT – MY TAKE!
To be frank, I have nothing left to say about this incident which even got front page coverage in a newspaper like Times and which was widely discussed, debated and joked about everywhere. Also, when no one other than the ones present at the party know why this incident took place, it’s almost impossible to take sides. Yes, Shah Rukh Khan did err by slapping Shirish Kunder, even though the latter unnecessarily provoked him. Some say Shirish didn’t even know SRK was at the party, forget provoking him and that SRK came from behind and suddenly assaulted him and even pulled Shirish’s hair! This was Shirish’s story which I feel difficult to believe. From what I know, Shah Rukh would never do this, even though if he’s very drunk. But if Shirish did ridicule SRK, it didn’t give him any solid ground to hit Shirish in this manner. Hence, both sides were mistaken.
However, the best part is that in less than 48 hours, the jagda was sorted out, thanks to Farah’s bro Sajid Khan and also by Sanjay Dutt and Sajid Nadiadwala. Both parties have kissed and made up. Great to see everyone showing maturity and ending the issue as amicably as possible! I was particularly saddened with this ‘Kha.One’ incident, especially because it meant the end of glorious SRK-Farah relationship. No more movies by SRK-Farah combo, I thought! But thankfully, that won’t be the case and waiting for the day when the ‘Khan siblings’ will announce a movie together!
LET ME KNOW YOUR VIEWS ON THIS INCIDENT!
